Welcome to this exclusive series on one of the legacies of Ballroom dancing dubbed the "Queen of the Ballroom" Josephine Bradley. Way back in the day [early 1900s] she was instrumental in the foundation of the ISTD [Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance] and pioneered Ballroom dancing to be standardized. This is a fascinating tale written by her about her life and adventures. Pull up a chair with a scotch and cigar or listen on the train and don't light up that cigar and let me narrate this tale along with my thoughts as we go along on a tale back in time. Hey dancers and dance enthusiasts! Welcome back to another exciting episode of DancerAF, hosted by Vaughan Liddicoat. Today, we're diving deep into a topic that challenges the age-old saying: "Practice makes perfect." Whether you're a seasoned dancer looking to refine your technique or a beginner eager to grasp the fundamentals, this episode is packed with invaluable wisdom that will revolutionize the way you think about practice and its role in your journey as a dancer. In this episode, I want to talk about a really important issue for men: How to prepare yourself so you can have a waiting list of ladies wanting to dance with you. Seriously though, these three tips are very important to understand. Most guys have no idea how to present themself in a way that is appealing and more importantly leaves you more confident. Although basic its not common practice. Pay attention and watch your results change. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dancer-af/message
Let's crack a beer and watch a bit of Slavik and Anna - her ENTRY to the floor is PRECISELY what we will break down and understand how you can steal this to win for yourself. Here is what no one is telling you about what you're really being judged on in DanceSport, ProAm, and Performances. It's NOT what you think it is so let's deep dive into this subject and you can win big. QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF... How do you WALK on the floor? How do you CARRY yourself? What is your INTENTION? Are you even AWARE of you? What are you truly being judged on as a Ballroom or Latin Dancer? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dancer-af/message
www.ballroommastery.tv - Get free Ballroom and Latin dance training plus more! -------------- Dancers are artists who use their bodies to express themselves and tell stories through movement. They are often highly trained and skilled in various styles of dance, such as ballet, contemporary, hip-hop, or traditional cultural dances. As a dancer, you may find inspiration and motivation from the Chinese parable of the farmer. This story illustrates the power of perspective and how our perceptions shape our reality. This parable teaches us that life is full of unexpected events and that our interpretation of those events shapes our perception of the world. As a dancer, you face challenges and setbacks in your artistic journey, but you also experience moments of joy, fulfillment, and inspiration. By adopting a mindset of openness and curiosity, you can find meaning and purpose in your experiences, and use them as opportunities for growth and learning. Listening to this podcast can help dancers cultivate a mindset of resilience, creativity, and self-expression, and learn from the wisdom of others who have walked the path before them. Whether you are a professional dancer or an aspiring one, this podcast can inspire you to keep dancing, keep exploring, and keep discovering the beauty and power of movement. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dancer-af/message

Extremely counter to most coaching advice but I NEED YOU TO LISTEN UNTIL THE END. In my personal dance experience LOSING was the greatest gift because I understood HOW TO USE IT. Most dancers never learn how to turn negative events, like losing, into POWER. There's a saying I love "if you can't take the knocks you don't deserve to win."  WHAT YOU'LL LEARN... There is ALWAYS someone better than you, even if you're #1 in the world - what does this mean for you? How to turn a loss into your greatest advantage Why do people quit when faced with losing or after losing How feeling embarrassed is a gift for your improvement Let's unpack this as it will truly help you reframe your perceptions about winning/losing your inner and outer game of dancing. Let me share a story from the upper echelon of DanceSport as well as my own personal experiences working with students and clients on this VERY critical lesson: Remaining Coachable. Are you coachable? Well, you may say yes but tune in to find out where you really stand. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN... -Why do most people think and even believe they're coachable but this [listen in] demonstrates otherwise How to remain open so you don't get stuck Personal stories from teaching and coaching that help exemplify how not remaining coachable can be career-ending or at minimum slowest, least efficient way to improve What the Big 5 Personality Traits are and how it can help you learn more about yourself to help you remain coachable When to be coachable and when to lead Vaughan Liddicoat. Want to know how to KNOW the good is coming to you in the darkest moments in your life? You will never be fully ready for that next level but you will attract moments that can change everything - how do you be AWARE of this? Recently I was in a dark place but because of this lesson, I knew brighter days were coming.  It's NOT only about positive thinking, positive attitudes, or limiting beliefs - this is far more than that. There is a rhythm to things and if you're aware of this idea it will help you in the depths of despair. Let us examine a few beliefs and also attraction is working all the time in your life for the good, bad and indifferent. What I will share... How you attract and/or repel people, opportunities, and circumstances in your life What the law of rhythm is all about  What separates winners [it's not winning more than others] Why you can feel chaotic, confused, low in confidence in new situations like competing or medal tests What manifesting your highest self can actually mean in a real-world sense I hope you enjoy this lesson with me! We are talking HIGH performance in this episode. If you have ever wanted to know how to sustain motivation this is your episode! If you have ever had big dips in your motivation and struggled to keep going then this could be the reason why and it comes from the depths of neuroscience. I truly believe this episode is one of the most important I will bring you to kick-start a new level of learning and self-direction. For decades I have been studying the link between performance on and off the dance floor and mindset. Over the past week, I have been devouring #Hubermanlab podcast and found one of my most exciting discoveries on... -Why do we lose motivation and drive? -How can we avoid the pitfalls of burnout -Why hitting goals can have a negative effect [LISTEN TO THIS] unless you understand this one thing about your brain -The relationship between dopamine and PAIN is not just pleasure -Chocolate, cold showers, and cocaine...well, what else is there to say? -A very, very, VERY important non-reward based idea to help you unlock the natural way of keeping the momentum going You'll get more from your dancing and life performance after you become more conscious of the content in this episode. I am happy to be able to share this with you. Vaughan Liddicoat. In a world fuelled by fear now more than ever, I want to bring some messages that help you and I understand ourselves better. Why? The antidote to fear is understanding the connection of thought and purpose applied with intelligent action. The more we understand ourselves the greater the potential that can be released. We need leadership to help us get beyond uncertainty and doubt and that starts with you recognizing how you operate. Thought and purpose when aligned will help you find meaning in a dark world.  Vaughan Liddicoat. [Special edition] I wanted to share some really important reminders for us all to keep focused, calm, and to up our game. We cannot control the governments or what is happening outside - but we have a CHOICE on how we respond. I spend about 80% of my time teaching technique, mechanics, movement, dance feeling, expression. The other 20% is the most powerful but I don't often get the opportunity to delve into some of the mindsets of top performance. Often it is because many dancers just want to enjoy dancing at a social or medalist level. But to be your truly greatest self requires something else.  You've got to be able to push out of the weak-minded laziness we all have and forge ahead to demand the most from your dancing each and every day. Now, the good news...you don't have to go hard or go home...you need to be consistent and HERE IS HOW. Here is a sneak peek into the mindset-side of training my young student Bianca on her way to DanceSport amazing-ness! In a previous lesson, I discussed the power of compounding your time, and dancing a little bit each day is more powerful than a lot in one go. But she was tested by her own inner resolve to do the work during arguably, one of the hardest times for a dancer to go through. Lockdown. No partner. Stuck at home. For almost 2 months. Thankfully, we have online lessons and an awesome partner Ewan to keep things moving. But it is the inner game that must be overcome! Listen in as I share how we as Professional dancer's made it through and what top performance demands if you want to be part of the top echelon in dancing. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dancer-af/message

www.ballroommastery.tv - Are you guilty of doing ANY of these things and sabotaging your partnership? You may not even recognize what over 90% of couples both on and off the floor do WRONG. Over 20 years of dancing with the SAME partner has taught me a few what to do and what not to do, NOT TO MENTION THE STUDENTS WHO GET THIS WRONG. Please let me share my EARLY and LATER atrocious inability to communicate well and what I did and now what I see many, many partnerships fail at. By the way...let's chat about one of my biggest freakin' pet peeves in partnerships [you'll need to watch it for longer than 1 minute] I personally believe it why most partnerships just can't last and end in heartbreak, resentment and, bitterness. Through this discussion, we can all get better, be kinder and, just rock it out for longer! So if you'd like to know a few ways to... -Keep the passion alive -Not foster detesting practice -Avoid triggering each other in a negative way -Stop fantasizing about sending your partner to dance-hell -Actually, end up respecting and bettering each other [WOW!] Plus much more - then this is for you. In all seriousness though there is something I want you to do: Become aware of your actual inability to communicate properly and resolve to be better at it. Plan around your ineffective strategies for bad communication Which will end up making your communication better and your entire partnership because you're now aware of your poor communication and now making it better through an active process. CALL TO ACTION: 1. FILL IN BLANK: C_______________ M_______________ 2. Sit with your parnter and figure out your C.M 3. Deploy it for the next 30 days Please comment, like, and inconspicuously tag a dancing partner with a subtle *cough* "you may like this" type of share. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dancer-af/message
