Premier League Night 13It was great to see the crowds back at the darts, and even though the numbers were limited, they were still in great voice. The players play for the masses, and you could see how happy they were; except for James and Jose, they don't get too excited.Jonny Clayton 8 beat Gary Anderson 1Convincing win and back to the form we know Clayton can play,57% on checkouts high checkout of 124.Clayton is now in the four on 16 points and third. Anderson stays 6th, and he has to start to win to get in the 4."It was absolutely brilliant," said Clayton. "It's a massive buzz because the crowd makes darts, so it was amazing to get them back, and the atmosphere was fantastic."I had a few people cheering for me, and there were a couple of Welsh flags, in, so it's a proud moment.Jonny now plays Jose Clayton, and this could be a cracker; Clayton to win - 2nd match.Gary plays MVG - 3rd match.Jose De Sousa 8 beat Dimitri Van den Burgh 3I had Dimitri for the win on this one, but Jose being Jose was steady and calm throughout the match, it was great to see the dance back from the dream maker. This match was a stock standard match from both, with Jose averaging 100 with a checkout highest of 70 and 36% checkout; he will have to improve on that."It's a wonderful feeling," said De Sousa. "I didn't feel the pressure, and it's nice to see the crowd behind us again. The fans know the player and the person that I am, and I got a lot of respect from them.Jose is now 4th, and Dimitri drops to fifth. Jose now plays Jonny Clayton, and this could be a cracker; Clayton wins - 2nd match.Nathan Aspinall 8 beat Michael van Gerwen 3I had this match as a draw and then went MVG, you forget how good the Asp is, and he showed that tonight, the boys would admit it wasn't the highest of standards for them, just a great win for Nathan.Nathan went 57% on checkouts and highest peg 120"It's a massive two points, and it was a great buzz tonight," said Aspinall. "I was really nervous coming into the game because we've missed the fans, and win or lose, I wanted to enjoy it tonight.Aspinall equal top with MVG on 17 points. The Asp now plays James Wade on Wednesday morning, the Asp to win 1st match.Michael now Plays Gary Anderson 3rd match, MVG to bounce back.Peter Wright 8 beat James Wade 4The battle of the bottom of the ladder, and you can't keep Peter down for too long. This match has now sealed James Wade's fate is; he can't make the 4, nor can Peter, but they can both influence the four from here.Peter went 63% on checkouts, with this highest being 103."The crowd make such a difference; it was amazing," admitted Wright. "They inspired me, and I feel so alive - it was so nice being nervous backstage!James and Peter are now tied on 11 points and at the bottom of the ladder.Peter plays Dimitri Van den Bergh - Last MatchJames Plays Nathan - First MatchRedlands Darts Association Mid Week Wednesday 26th May 2021, 7.15 pm1 Div - Shell’n’peas v Game of ThrownsJokers v JaguarsFirst to 9 games2nd Div - Dart Vader’s v Whoo CaresEliminators v BullshootersFirst to 9 games3rd Div - Sonic Death Monkeys v Red Barons60’s R Us v No Use for a NameFirst to 8 gamesGold Coast Darts AssociationTuesday Nigth super leagueRound 23 and 24 get underway, and there are plenty of top matches to be had.Round 23 sees James Bailey take on Bill AitkenIan Stuart v Jim KingMatt mullen v Robbie KingRon Dunne v Bill StanleyJosh Kime v Adam BainbridgeSteve Hanate v Steve TaylorGraham Matthews v Harry?Steve Duke Jnr v Riann EngelbrechtRound 24Steve Duke Jnr v Jim KingRon Dunne v Adam BainbridgeIan Stuart v Steve TaylorJosh Kime v Robbie KingSteve Hanare v HarryBill Stanley v Riaan EngelbrechtGraham Matthews v Bill
Premier League Semi-FinalsJonny Clayton (10) beat Michael van Gerwen (8)Jonny Clayton continued where he left off yesterday and won with a steady and consistent game.It wasn't until he broke MVG in the 17th game that he was comfortable, and the win was in sight. He averaged 103 and had another 17 140's and 67% checkout. On the other hand, Michael showed vulnerabilities in the entire match even though he averaged 100 and had a great checkout percentage of 57, normally good enough to win most games.Jonny Clayton will play Jose de Sousa in the final.Michael goes home with $147,000 in his back pocket.Jose de Sousa (10) beat Nathan Aspinall (9)In a close encounter and rematch from the previous night, it was not a game that reaches the highest that had Wayne Mardle lose his voice; however, it was a very controlled performance from de Sousa.Aspinall went into the game with a back complaint, but he never let it dint his determination and drive, only for a split second when George Nobel had to pick up his dart he dropped.Jose averaged 98.00% the second time he had been under the 100 all week, but he was more in control of his throw than the Asp. He checked out at 41%, which was lower than Nathan's, but he took his chances and won the match yesterday, which gave him have the bull, which was the difference in the end.As I said in an earlier show, Jose's undoing is his maths, and it nearly cost him on three occasions; he can't afford to do that in the final.Jose now plays Jonny ClaytonNathan goes howe with $147,000Jonny Clayton (11) beat Jose de Sousa (5)In a final that saw Jose de Sousas great run come to an end, it was the powerful Clayton that shone out; he recaptured his early form and powered away from a lacklustre de Sousa. Both players averaged just over 100 for the match, and it was Jonny checking out at 55% was the telling factor; anytime you are above 50%, you will most matches.Even though this isn't a ranking event, it gives Clayon the confidence heading into the matchplay in July, where he would qualify via the pro tour.On winning the premier league, Clayton takes home$458,500Jose takes home $200,100Well done to the PDC and all involved, one to get the event complete and two getting crowds back to the darts.Matchplay Field as at the end of May1https://www.pdc.tv/players/gerwyn-price (Gerwyn Price) 1Jonny Clayton2https://www.pdc.tv/players/peter-wright (Peter Wright) 2Devon Petersen3https://www.pdc.tv/players/michael-van-gerwen (Michael van Gerwen) 3Danny Nopert4https://www.pdc.tv/players/james-wade (James Wade) 4Mensur Suljovic5https://www.pdc.tv/players/rob-cross (Rob Cross) 5Damon Heta6https://www.pdc.tv/players/gary-anderson (Gary Anderson) 6Brendon Dolan7https://www.pdc.tv/players/dave-chisnall (Dave Chisnall) 7Dirk van Duijvenbode8https://www.pdc.tv/players/michael-smith (Michael Smith) 8https://www.pdc.tv/players/gabriel-clemens (Gabriel Clemens)9https://www.pdc.tv/players/dimitri-van-den-bergh (Dimitri Van den Bergh) 9https://www.pdc.tv/players/jermaine-wattimena (Jermaine Wattimena)10https://www.pdc.tv/players/nathan-aspinall (Nathan Aspinall) 10https://www.pdc.tv/players/ross-smith (Ross Smith)11https://www.pdc.tv/players/jose-de-sousa (José de Sousa) 11https://www.pdc.tv/players/vincent-van-der-voort (Vincent van der Voort)12https://www.pdc.tv/players/krzysztof-ratajski (Krzysztof Ratajski) 12Callan Rydz13https://www.pdc.tv/players/glen-durrant (Glen Durrant) 13https://www.pdc.tv/players/mervyn-king (Mervyn King)14https://www.pdc.tv/players/daryl-gurney (Daryl Gurney) 14https://www.pdc.tv/players/madars-razma (Madars Razma)15https://www.pdc.tv/players/joe-cullen (Joe Cullen) 15Martijn Kleermaker16https://www.pdc.tv/players/ian-white (Ian White) 16Like HumphriesSuper Series 4The 4th instalment of the super series gets underway on the 15th June Australian...
Premier League Night 16James Wade (8) beat Gary Anderson (7)It was a match that had no bearing other than pride and prizemoney, and it was James Wade who had the only break of the game and took out the win.James finished 6th on the table - $110,000Gary finishes 8th on the table - $91,700Jose De Sousa (8) beat Nathan Aspinall (3)In a match that would decide finishing places in the final four, it started as a match that would see who would hold their throw first, and it was Jose, and he ended up winning the game in style.Along the way, Jose broke the record of the 180s and had something we had not seen on TV three times; he finished double-double on the '20s.He once again averaged over 100 with a 103 finish high checkout of 149. They will now play each other in the final four, and Nathan will have to turn his form around quickly. He averaged 92 for the match with a high check out of 152. However, he struggled to hit trebles and was very wayward going for segments and was punished accordingly.Michael van Gerwen (8) beat Peter Wright (6)They both came to put on a show, and they did until MVG put his foot down and took the lead with three ton-plus checkouts and a high of 145; he topped the table with class, earning a bonus of $45,800 for finishing top of the table.MVG now plays Jonny Clayton in the first semi-finalPeter Wright started slow, but once the crowds returned, he showed what he is made of and disrupted a few scenarios along the way. He will be back and finished 7th, taking home $100,870.Jonny Clayton (8) beat Dimitri Van den Burgh (6)Jonny Clayton bounced back from a couple of defeats to make his way into the top 4, beating Dimitri 8-6 in a match that he had to draw, and Dimitri needed to win.He broke early and then was steady on his throw and, in the final game, took advantage of a disheartened Van den Burgh. In his first season in the premier league, Clayton deserved his place in the final four; he now plays MVG.Dimitri will be unhappy with the way he finished, but to play as he has over the tournament is a credit to the two-time world junior champion. He finishes the tournament in 5th place and takes home a handy $128,400.Both players had ton-plus averages, but Clayton 17 140's got him the win and checked out at 57%.The finalsSemi-Final 1Michael Van Gerwen vs Jonny ClaytonThey can both wobble, and in 2021, Jonny has beaten MVG more times than the other way around. MVG showed great form at the right end of the tournament and didn't finish on top of the ladder 3 points clear for no reason, and I think he will win the match in the best of 19 legs.Semi-Final 2In a repeat of the match from the final night, Jose De Sousa takes on Nathan Aspinall, which should be a great match. Jose, the record holder of the 180s in the premier league up against the, never says die, Aspinall. I picked Nathan early in the tournament to make the final, but he has struggled to get that early form back over the last couple of days. On the other hand, Jose is ever so calm and never looks like he is flappable, and I think this will hold him instead for this match. The concern I have for Jose is his concentration and calculating scores over the longer format. This could be a stumbling block for Jose.Nathan is an impressive player and is always at you in the match. He never stops trying to get back in the game when behind, but he is hard to beat when he is in the lead and form. For me, this match will be won by the least mistakes, and I think it will be Nathan. To stay connected, follow the links:https://thedartsplace.com.au/ (The Darts Place Website)https://www.facebook.com/thedartsplacecomau (Facebook)https://twitter.com/thedartsplace (Twitter) https://www.instagram.com/thedartsplace/ (Instagram) We strive to provide the dart loving community news, reviews and opinions on the

Since COVID and the acceptance of online darts, I believe numbers on new players has dropped off in Australia.Clubs may say that their numbers have grown, but it is just a shift of club. Here in Queensland, the elite players are well covered with the DPA and Darts Queensland, but it is the laters responsibility to grow the grassroots; nowhere can I see a strategy that reflects their goal "Encourage the promotion and foster the sport of darts for all ages throughout Queensland".If I were a new player wanting to find a club, I would struggle to find a place to play quickly except for Western Australia. We forget that darts is a niche sport that is highly inclusive and offers people an outlet and a learning experience. Searching the web and finding websites, it looks like the problem starts at the top; only one focuses on the elite part of the game. For the sport to be viable and grow, you have to encourage people to play and turn up every week and make clubs viable. One of the things I do is research words for websites, and the three most common dart searches on google are dart clubs, dart rules and darts Brisbane. Then when you find a site, nothing about clubs, yes there is affiliates, zones etc., but that means nothing to the general public. It starts at the top on researching; it looks like DA has had no direction since 2017. It needs to get going and help build this wonderful sport. So how is it done to have one direction from DA that means all states have to follow that direction driven by the overriding body, that its first point of contact is for the new player looking for a club anywhere in Australia? There is unity in the look and feel across all platforms. The clubs do their best, need assistance in marketing their sport, and engage the elite players with new players. That clubs have no restrictions on when and how they run their club, with guidance from the state bodies, not control from the state bodies.Affiliated...
PDC - Premier LeagueWe are at the stage where it is starting to look like the top three are in, and the final spot is up for grabs.MVG has strung a couple of matches together and hit the top of the leader board going into the final four nights. With a possible 8 points up for grabs, it will be interesting to see who makes the 4. The magical number is 19MVG powered his way to the top with two telling performances and looked like his old self using his old darts.Nathan Aspinall and Dimitri van Den Bergh are nearly safe; they need to win a couple more.Joses De Sousa has a substantial leg difference and is on 14 points with Jonny Clayton. I think one of these guys will take the fourth spot.Even though out of touch on the oche, Gary Anderson has hung in there and needs a lot of luck to make the 4.James Wade and Peter Wright can't make it in my books.Night 13 – Tuesday, May 25Jonny Clayton v Gary AndersonJose de Sousa v Dimitri Van den BerghNathan Aspinall v Michael van GerwenJames Wade v Peter WrightNight 14 – Wednesday, May 26James Wade v Nathan AspinallJonny Clayton v Jose de SousaGary Anderson v Michael van GerwenPeter Wright v Dimitri Van den BerghNight 15 – Thursday, May 27Jonny Clayton v Peter WrightJames Wade v Dimitri Van den BerghGary Anderson v Nathan AspinallJose de Sousa v Michael van GerwenNight 16 – Friday, May 28Gary Anderson v James WadeNathan Aspinall v Jose de SousaPeter Wright v Michael van GerwenDimitri Van den Bergh v Jonny ClaytonPlay-Offs – Saturday, May 29Semi-FinalsFinalDPA Queensland ResultsThe satellite tour hit Pine Rivers Darts club again, and it was a split weekend with Robbie King and James Bailey taking the wins, with Mick Lacey falling at the last hurdle both days. He won the Premier League last year, but it wasn't a pretty win.Move forward to this year's Premier League, and he is a shadow of his former self not winning a match and looked at a loss. One thing playing, watching and coaching sport there is one thing I do know that people of his ability are not far away from hitting form again, but mentally can he? I think he can, and by the time the world championships come around, the crowds are back, we will see the best of Glen.To stay connected Follow the links:https://thedartsplace.com.au/ (The Darts Place Website)https://www.facebook.com/thedartsplacecomau (Facebook)https://twitter.com/thedartsplace (Twitter) https://www.instagram.com/thedartsplace/ (Instagram) We strive to provide the dart loving community news, reviews and opinions on the sport we love darts.
