Description

We are a magick school for spiritually minded people who want advice and resources about, plus training on, using our ‘philosophy and art of affecting intended change through unseen causes’ (known as humanistic magick) in order to make changes that improve their work and lifestyle. Our podcast is an edutaining look at magick’s representation in pop culture and how far films and TV shows get it right or wrong. This helps manage expectations for how magick is used in the 'real world' to make change happen. You can find out more about us at magentaschoolofmagick.com.

In our season finale, we are looking at our esteem needs, and how far Hollywood takes the trope that everyone needs - or does not need - magick to overcome their issues and their belief in themselves. Using an example from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, we look at whether acceptance of the self, and belonging needs, can truly be found in magickal working. We also have a look at how we have adapted Maslow’s hierarchy to give magickal work a structure and goal.  Hopefully by the end of this episode, listeners will discover that “real magick” was in the tropes we learned about along the way. No wait, that’s not the lesson is it? Spoilers. It isn’t the lesson no. We have an article on magickal self esteem for magickal success and how to align Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to magickal practise that further describes today’s topic. We also talk briefly at the end about an upcoming event in collaboration with Clare Willmitt Wellness, it is currently on Eventbrite as a place to express interest in this, so feel free to check that out.  If you haven't subscribed to our website yet - please check it out magentaschoolofmagick.com. Today’s episode is a look at how humanistic magick is used to bring people, and ourselves, towards our true potential. Achieving this is what is called being self actualised. We talk about Carl Rogers and Maslow, how they provide the backdrop to humanistic magick and how employers could use these principles, and Lego naturally, to provide a better working environment. Hopefully by the end of this episode, listeners will take more time for themselves, their own personal development and ensure they align their goals - be it work, life goals or magickal ones - towards achieving your potential. We have an article on using Carl Rogers self actualising tendency to achieve spiritual growth and how to align Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to magickal practise that further describes today’s topic. In this episode we are asking the question “Can you decide to be magick or is it something you are born like?” Looking at examples from Star Wars, the Rivers of London book series and others where the protagonist is often revealed by a mentor to have spiritual or magick prowess within. Is there still a place for learning magick (or even magick powers, like The One About Divination from Season 3 explains) or is it a private epiphany driven by a yearning? Hopefully, having taken the time over this episode, listeners will discover a bit more about what motivates them to practise magick, how spirituality connects to personal growth and personal development and whether they have the ‘need from within’.  We have an article on using Spirituality for personal development that further describes today’s topic. In this episode we are looking at how to bring magick (mostly Tarot to be fair) into the Boardroom, conference room, meeting room, staff room, and annual appraisal. We draw a connection between our astrology in the boardroom episode, and posit that if we were clever enough, or had a vast pot of gold, we could work with a developer to build a personality profile tool using the meanings in the Tarot. We describe some real-world situations where Tarot can be used at work and, using examples from the TV show Angel, explain that magick in the workplace is just the next step along the evolution of wellbeing and team building. Hopefully by the end of the episode listeners will feel inspired to hold workshops or one to ones with their teams in a different way. We have an article on using Tarot in the boardroom that further describes today’s topic. If you haven't subscribed to our website yet - please check it out magentaschoolofmagick.com. In this episode we are looking at astrological natal, or birth, charts and their applicability in the workplace. We read one of our own birth charts to identify real-world uses for these tools in a mainstream context. We have used a free tool on Cafe Astrology to produce a detailed report, and we’ll talk about how accurate it is. We get into what some of the astrological words mean and hopefully by the end of this episode listeners will have an overview of what goes into a birth chart, and feel inspired to use these personality reports to complement existing workplace profiling.  We have an article on astrology in the boardroom that further describes today’s topic. In this episode we are looking at magick’s representation in music and songs, and how far magick has made its way into mainstream consciousness, or least into HMV. We’ll talk about lots of different bands and artists, such as The Police, Fleetwood Mac, Nina Simone and whether or not songs when used in films and TV become open to interpretation through the lens of magick. Plus we’ll share our thoughts on how far magick is being readily accepted, thanks in part to its presence in different forms of media. Hopefully by the end of this episode listeners will have an eclectic playlist of some of the least problematic songs we’ll talk about We have an article on the mainstream appeal of magick that further describes today’s topic. In this episode we are looking at whether fate and free will are in a secret battle, using us as pawns in a weird chess game. Can you choose your own path or is it all mapped out for us long before we are born? Pop culture has so many tropes, even casting Fate as a character in many shows like Charmed. We’ll talk about how prophesy, and whether there is a grand plan, is dealt with in shows like Angel and Supernatural, and overlay this with ideas about using magickal tools like Tarot and Astrology to give us a heads up on any of the big events we might not be able to avoid. Hopefully by the end of this episode listeners will take a side, is everything fated? Do we have free will? Or is it a bit of both? We have an article on fate versus free will and whether Tarot can predict the future that further describes today’s topic. In this episode we are looking at one of the weirder ideas brought to us from science and pop culture, The Multiverse. What is it? How many are there? How do I go visit one of the other ones? Well, we might not be able to answer all of those questions, we do at least have a go.  We’ll talk about how Sliding Doors, all the Star Treks and Marvel shows draw on the concept of many worlds. Can we peak at these through dreaming and meditation? We talk about different universes piled on top of each other and whether "soft places" mean we might slip through to another dimension. We round off with a decision that, just like Everything Everywhere All At Once, we can borrow outcomes from our other selves through spellcasting. We’re not a science show, or a medical show  so where we have totally butchered the physics and medical science, we’re very sorry! We have an article on magick and the multiverse that further describes today’s topic. If you haven't subscribed to our website yet - please check it out magentaschoolofmagick.com. Season 4 of That Magick Podcast starts on the 23rd September 2023, 12pm GMT. Season 4 looks at how mainstream magick is, and whether it's time to bring magick into the boardroom. During this 8 episode run, we'll be talking about astrology, the multiverse and the representation of magick in the music industry. We also overlay pop culture and business into our episodes, to consider how fairly represented magick is in our society.  If you haven't subscribed to our website yet - please check it out magentaschoolofmagick.com. We open our show with a terrible pun and a fair warning that this one is probably not safe for work and will prompt younger listeners to ask several questions, if you’re listening with younger people in the car. In this episode we talk about what sex magick is, go on a little bit of a rant about Aleister Crowley, sharing a potted history along the way. Using examples from Disney, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Eyes Wide Shut but not the porn industry, we try to explain some ethical considerations of sex magick alongside what it is. Some parts of today’s episode can get a little graphic and gross, so fair warning people. Hopefully by the end of this episode listeners will have a bit more knowledge and an idea of the ethics of sex magick.  We have an article on the ethics of sex magick that further describes today’s topic. In this episode we open up a mail bag to answer some frequently asked questions. Such as are love spells real? We know from shows like Supernatural and Buffy the Vampire Slayer that love spells can backfire, but the movie Supergirl shows they can work. We get into other questions such as how do we know when spells work? Should people cleanse their shop bought tools and gifts? How do deities work best? What type of witch should I be? What are familiars? And how did that Lenormand reading from episode 6 work out? So we open our show with an update on how our Lenormand reading worked out and hopefully by the end of this episode shed some light on some of the other frequently asked questions and their answers to help magickal practitioners on their learning journey. We have an article on the different types of magick and cleansing that further describes today’s topics. Follow and subscribe at magentaschoolofmagick for all our amazing, and free, content. **We apologise for the sound. We hadn't noticed the microphone had failed until after and because we bulk record, this has impacted a few of our episodes this season** We open our show having a debate over the french-ness or otherwise of Lenormand, which quickly falls apart as of course Madame Lenormand was indeed french.  In this episode we have not been able to find a pop-culture reference for Lenormand, so instead we try to look at it from the perspective of games that are more on point with regard to reality than first they appear....which is tenuous at best. So, with absolutely nothing to do with divination at all, we badly draw on Jumanji as an illustration of a game that turns out to be an alternate reality…as Lenormand tends to do when the cards are used as a tool for divination. We do eventually do a short five card practise reading and we look at two alternatives for combining the cards in this example reading. Hopefully by the end of this episode listeners will have an idea how to combine Lenormand cards into a reading. We have an article on 5 card Lenormand readings plus all of our Lenormand resources as well that further describes today’s topic. We also have a free ebook available on Easy Lenormand Card Meanings and Combinations. Follow and subscribe at magentaschoolofmagick for all our amazing, and free, content. **We apologise for the poor camera work and sound. We hadn't noticed the camera positioning was not quite right and the microphone had failed until after and because we bulk record, this has impacted a few of our episodes this season** We open our show eventually after several bouts of laughter over the tragic tale of a hard-up performing seal falling on hard times. But of course, this is not what a magick seal is. In this episode we talk about what magick seals and sigils are, where we see these used in TV and movies and a little bit about their origins. We call upon cult TV show Supernatural to demonstrate pop culture's reliance on old magickal seals and hopefully by the end of this episode listeners will have a bit more knowledge and an idea of how to use magick seals in a real world magickal context. We have an article on magick seals and using planetary squares that further describes today’s topic. Follow and subscribe at magentaschoolofmagick for all our amazing, and free, content. **We apologise for the poor camera work and sound. We hadn't noticed the camera positioning was not quite right and the microphone had failed until after and because we bulk record, this has impacted a few of our episodes this season** We open our show by leading ourselves through a very short meditation that quickly disintegrates into our usual nonsense, but there is a valid point to meditation even if it is slightly scoffed at. In this episode we talk about the point of meditation and how sports personalities and business executives seem to have cornered the “meditation is serious” aspect, potentially leaving magickal practitioners with the “but in magick it's just silly” aspect. We lean on pop culture, Star Trek Voyager this time, as well as Rugby to illustrate our points. Hopefully by the end of this episode listeners will be able to recognise that meditation has practical applications, widely used by other industries, and that it’s really no different when used in a magickal context. We have an article on the point of meditation and how visualisation can be used to achieve goals that further describes today’s topic. We open our show shoe-horning another pop culture reference into it. Now, this is a long walk for a short drink, as we point out in the opener…it’s difficult to find references in pop culture to a concept not widely known about. We manage to find one from Star Trek The Next Generation and Star Trek Picard in the form of Empath and Ship's Counsellor, Deanna Troi. If listeners want to skip all this, just scroll ahead to about four and half minutes in. In this episode we talk about Humanistic Magick. A philosophy we have aligned our magickal workings to here at Magenta. We talk about Humanistic counselling concepts from Maslow, Carl Rogers and Fritz and Laura Perls, and how we overlay those in magickal practise. We also talk a little bit about the work we do, and what website subscribers can look forward to receiving every week.   Hopefully by the end of this episode listeners will have more knowledge about how our magickal philosophy works, alongside the magickal art and astral rules we follow. We have an article on Humanistic Magick, Finding Inner Peace, Using Maslow in Magick, covering today’s topic. Follow and subscribe at magentaschoolofmagick for all our amazing, and free, content. Including a video of this episode if you are receiving this on a platform that does not support video.
We open our show rather abruptly. Our capacity to transition our viewers and listeners gently into the show, by way of a cold opener has escaped us this time round. So there’s very little pointless banter, other than everything in the show itself of course 🙂 In this episode we talk about various methods of divination, how they are represented in pop culture and how even muggles can learn how to divine the “hidden knowledge” with a bit of effort and patience. Using examples from Original Charmed, hopefully by the end of this episode listeners will know which of the major clairs they are naturally better at and know more about how other tools can be used for divination. Spoilers….yes, even using a pendulum can be used for finding your lost property. But check your coat pockets first. We have an article covering the major clairs and other methods of divination on our website.  Follow and subscribe at magentaschoolofmagick for all our amazing, and free, content. We open our third season talking about the football club St Pauli On Sea, and the football shirts owned and loved by us here at Magenta School of Magick. Obviously this has nothing to do with using magick for personal gain, we eventually get into the show at about 5 minutes in for anyone who wants to fast forward through the welcoming banter. In this episode we talk about using magick for personal gain and how Hollywood has us believing that if we do, it’s generally a bad thing. Using examples from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Craft, the Marvel universe of TV shows and films and Original Charmed, we challenge that view and generally have a laugh at how everything anyone is usually doing is for personal gain reasons. We also talk a little bit about binding spells, and have a tale of caution (or a tale about a lucky windfall, depending on your perspective) when using magick to bind yourself to people and things.  Hopefully by the end of this episode listeners will feel assured that magick can be practised to achieve personal goals. We have an article covering today’s topic and an article on the ethics of binding on our website. Follow and subscribe at magentaschoolofmagick for all our amazing, and free, content. Season 3 Trailer

2023-02-1101:53

Season 3 of That Magick Podcast starts on the 18th of March 2022, 12pm GMT. For season 3 we take a turn for the slightly bonkers as our unscripted discussions about magick take us down many side chats and fits of the giggles. During this 8 episode run, we'll be talking about magick for personal gain, divination, the fact Lenormand never gets a look in for movies and TV, when compared to Tarot plus more really great topics. We overlay pop culture, sports and business into our episodes to ensure magick is accessible to everyone. If you haven't subscribed to our website yet - please check it out magentaschoolofmagick.com. This is the finale of Season 2! We open our show slightly worried about the complicated nature of astral magick, the timing and what’s on the watchlist of TV shows this weekend. In this episode we unpack the very basic basics of astral magick. That the characteristics of the planets come from astrology, what the House system means and what bits and pieces to pull together when timing spell casting for the best possible outcome. Hopefully by the end of this episode listeners will have an understanding of what astral magick is and a little of how it works. We have an article covering off the four main takeaways about astral magick and links to some of our favourite apps (to help with working out the maths) on our website. Follow and subscribe at magentaschoolofmagick for all our amazing, and free, content. Including a video of this episode if you are receiving this on a platform that does not support video.
We open our show talking about the fact Disney owns everything, is responsible for all the stories that ever existed…especially the made up ones on a certain News network. In this episode we explore whether magick is evil and depending on certain perspectives, whether pop-culture has encouraged the belief that actually it’s witches that are evil. We try to challenge this view point by taking you back in time, dear listeners, to the moment when it was decreed that magick was bad. Hopefully by the end of this episode, and armed with new knowledge, listeners will have an understanding of where this perspective comes from and begin to challenge any lingering fears around the villainous nature of magick (or witches!) We have an article asking whether magick is evil on our website. Follow and subscribe at magentaschoolofmagick for all our amazing, and free, content.
