What’s it like to be at a Filipino party? It’s loud. It’s full of life. It’s full of food! We are joined by members of the L.A.-based Filipino arts and dance organization Kayamanan ng Lahi, and they give us our take on halo halo as well as their history and mission to keep our Filipino arts traditions alive.
Chopping it up with Kenneth and Arrianne as we talk about Filipino Pride of the LGBTQIA+ kind. What’s it like coming out? What’s it like coming out to a religious family? What’s it like coming out in a small town where you are a cultural minority? Answers may vary, but this is a heartfelt episode we are happy to share.
We will talk about food in almost every episode, but this one touches on a lot of our cultural Filipino staples in the USA. My friend Arrianne joins me as we talk about baked goods, the weird foods, and everything in between.   Any questions or topic requests can be sent to halomixpodcast@gmail.com! We get to talk about superstition and traditions in the Filipino culture. This episode, Czarina joins me as we talk about some of the folklore of the Philippines. It often makes me wonder if these legends can carry over to wherever we go, or do they just stay in their country of origin?  Any questions or topic requests can be sent to halomixpodcast@gmail.com! We want to know what you’ve always wanted to know, and we’re here to help sort that out.

It’s a new year, and we’ve got a lot to do! After our actual first episode, we didn’t really introduce what the show was about. And of course, in Archie fashion, we have reintroduced the podcast in a unique way. This episode is essentially the tip of the iceberg of what the show will dive in to. We get to know the host Archie a little bit, we touch on the Ketchikan community, how Filipinos got to Alaska, a little trauma, and the concept of “Utang Na Loob” or sense of obligation/duty.Any questions or topic requests can be sent to halomixpodcast@gmail.com! We want to know what you’ve always wanted to know, and we’re here to help sort that out.
We're on location downtown Ketchikan to enjoy the sunshine and boba while we navigate through our thoughts about Filipino love language and mental health.
