Kathryn Heidemann is the President + CEO of the Cleveland Institute of Art, an arts & design college in our neighboring state to the west.  Kathryn has been working in the arts & culture administration sector for 25 years, having spent nearly 2 decades of her career in Pittsburgh.  She also plays a mean bass guitar and sings AT THE SAME TIME.  You may know her from such bands as Rockit Girl, Blindsider, The Victors!, and most recently, Garter Shake.  She is a powerhouse of a woman and in this interview we talk about her upbringing living abroad in Australia, Venezuela and Germany, as well as her time in Michigan, Chicago and Pittsburgh.  We marvel at Kathryn’s rare-but-refreshing simultaneous affinity for both Pittsburgh AND Cleveland. Chris Engelbert

Chris Engelbert

2022-07-1401:36:16

In this episode, we chat with terminally ill father of four, Chris Engelbert.  Chris humbly shares with us about his experience being diagnosed with stage IV cancer at just 41 years old. A lover of comedy, Chris swapped the comedic jabbing for some real talk in this deep conversation that is sure to leave a lasting impression on you, as it did for us. He shares about his favorite life experiences, what it's like living with pain everyday, thoughts on the afterlife, and the way his diagnosis has shifted his perspective. Sadly, Chris passed away shortly after this interview. He loved being a husband, father and stepfather, playing volleyball, listening to Pearl Jam and making people laugh. We were grateful he made time to sit down with us for this interview and we dedicate this podcast to him. Jacquea Mae

Jacquea Mae

In this interview, Chris couldn’t make it, so it’s a one-on-one chat between Bethany and our guest, Jacquea Mae, vocalist for the band NASH.V.ILL. Jacquea is much more than a singer--she is a presence.  When she performs, yes you hear her big, gorgeous voice, but you also experience her strong and beautiful aura.  Outside of music, she works as a teaching artist, playwright, poet, spoken word artist, actress, business owner, event creator, coordinator, host and community activist.  In this conversation, Jacquea shares about growing up in the Wilkinsburg neighborhood of Pittsburgh, the experiences that shaped who she is, finding her voice as an artist and finding her role in one of the most active, versatile and fun bands in Pittsburgh.  This is a deep and thoughtful conversation that gives a glimpse into the kind heart behind Jacquea’s powerful voice. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/yinzworld/support

Cheryl Capezzuti

2024-03-0602:01:46

Cheryl is an artist living in Pittsburgh, who has carved out a name for herself by focusing on several niche art forms:  puppet making, and dryer lint sculptures.  However, her artistic endeavors go well beyond the scope of creating tangible artwork, as she is also an art teacher by day and leads several events in the city that center around her very fun and colorful puppetry.  We talk about how Cheryl got started, her influences, family life, challenges and lessons, as well as lots of laughing about her various fun stories, like the time she was on the Ellen show.  Her reflections on art, the creative process and the connections between us all were beautiful and thought-provoking.  We laughed for a lot of this interview, and we hope you enjoy Cheryl’s infectious and positive energy as much as we did.  --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/yinzworld/support

Nearing midnight on New Year's Eve, Bethany and Chris tipsily sit down to reflect on their first 6 months of podcasting, including memorable moments, favorite guests, and their own personal growth following some culturally enlightening interviews.  During their chat, Bethany and Chris discover they each pronounce a certain word differently, which means one of them had been inadvertently taught the "yinzer" pronuncation of the word during their Pittsburgh youth, (see the Fact Check on our website for the correct answer).  Then, Chris performs an acoustic version of a classic rock song, and they both reminisce on the wisdom and significance of their first guest, Chris Engelbert.  Finally, some New Year's Eve revelers climb up to the attic for a celebratory farewell as we head into a brand new year of podcasting adventures!   This episode's "fact check" is available at yinzworldpodcast.com.  If you like our show, please rate, review and share!  --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/yinzworld/support
