Vol222.日常英语学习A Store Full of Stories

获取全部英语文本和重点知识点请公众号搜索:yymaster888Another day, another story. People come here looking for sugar, milk or bread. But they also bring their lives with them. Some bring laughter. Some bring tears. Some bring secrets. My store is not just a store. It's a little stage where life keeps playing every single day.Let's see who walks in first today. It's going to be a good day.Scene 1: The TeapotGood morning, Mr. Sam. Do you have a teapot? A big one, not a small one.Of course, Mrs. Brown. Big or small? Shiny or simple? I have many teapots. But tell me, why a big one if it's only for you? I don't understand.Huh? Young man, because when I pour tea into a big teapot, I don't feel so alone. You see, I used to make tea every day for my husband. We would sit in the garden talking about silly things, laughing, complaining about the neighbors, or just watching the birds. When he passed away, I thought I could stop drinking tea. But then I realized that I could still talk to him even if he was not there.Oh, I see. So, you still talk to him every day?Of course. I'll tell you something. Love doesn't disappear. I sit by my window at 4:00 sharp, pour tea into two cups, and I tell him everything that happened that day. Sometimes I cry. Sometimes I laugh, but at least I don't feel invisible. That's beautiful. You know, I believe people never really leave. They live in our words, our habits, our memories.Yes. But sometimes the silence in the house is too heavy. That's why I came here today. My old teapot broke yesterday. It felt like losing him again. That's why I want to buy a new one. Then we'll fix that today. Look at this one. Big, shiny, strong. Like it was made for someone who knows the weight of love. You are a poet, Sam. All right, I like it. How much?Don't worry. For you, I'll give you a special price. $10. But with one condition. Next time you drink tea, save a cup for me. I'll visit and we'll talk about your stories. What do you think?Deal. And I'll make cookies the way my husband liked them. Then it's a promise. Thank you, Mrs. Brown. And have a nice day.You too, Sam. You're always so kind. Have a nice day.You know, sometimes people don't buy objects. They buy memories, comfort, a way to keep love alive.Scene 2: The CologneExcuse me. Do you have cologne? Something good, please. Really good.Good morning. A cologne? Yes, I do. What's going on? Relax, young man. You look like you're about to run a marathon. What happens is I... I have a date tonight. My first real date. And I don't want to smell like chicken wings, you know.I get it. Good choice. Cologne is a smart idea. But remember, she will fall in love with your heart, not just your smell.Wow, this one smells amazing. Fresh, clean, kind of confident. Mr. Sam, what do you think? Do you think she will like it?Let me tell you this. If she doesn't, maybe she's not the right person. But tell me, where are you taking her?

Vol221.日常英语学习Learn English on Your Phone

获取全部英语文本和重点知识点请公众号搜索:yymaster888Hey everyone and welcome back to my YouTube channel. Today we are going to learn about something useful. How to learn English using just your phone. Our phones are powerful tools that can transform how we learn. The first thing I would do if I want to learn English from my phone is to change the phone's language to English. This might feel a little challenging at first, but you'll quickly pick up on technical terms and common phrases you see every day, like when you're updating apps or navigating settings. Think of your phone settings. That's the main place to change things and fix problems. If you change your language to English, you are going to learn new words like personal hotspot, display and brightness, wallpaper, etc. And you are going to get used to seeing these new words on your phone.Another way to learn English on your phone is by using Google Translate or any similar translation app you have. In my opinion, translation apps are really underrated. It's like having a dictionary right in your pocket. Let's say you see a sign on the road and you don't know what it means. For example, a sign that says toe. With a translation app, you can hear the English pronunciation, see examples of how toe is used in a sentence and see the word used as a noun, verb, or adjective, which helps you increase your vocabulary. This gives you a clear understanding of what the word means and how you can use it all in a quick and easy way. I really encourage you to use your translator app whenever you encounter a word you don't really know. Here's an even cooler feature. You can even take a picture and translate everything it says in the photo. For example, let's say you're at a restaurant. You can take a picture of the menu. Now I can see the menu in English or in your native language. This is helpful because you can see both the English version and the menu in your native language side by side. It makes learning practical and fun, especially if you're not sure what dishes are on the menu. Now that we have our phones switched to English, you'll want to download a dedicated learning app. An app is just any program you download like WhatsApp, Spotify, Amazon, etc. As you guys know, I am a native speaker and sometimes when my students ask me to try new apps to learn English, especially with AI, I realized some apps don't sound natural. So, after trying different apps, one app that drew my attention is Bspeaker.Bspeaker is an app that is easy to use. This is important when you're learning English because you don't want to download an app that is hard or complicated to navigate. And Bspeaker did a really good job with this. Their homepage is simple and easy to use. And the most important thing is their videos are accurate. It feels like you're having a live class, but even better. The difference between this app and other apps is that there aren't any AI avatars. Instead, you can see a real person talking, see their body language, and how they express themselves. This is important because when you speak English in real life, you speak with a real person. You don't talk with an AI avatar, so you can see their lips. You hear their accent, pronunciation, tone of voice, and can hear their emotions. Now that we've changed our phone language to English and downloaded the app, let's start learning English with my phone. I'm on Bspeaker and one part that I like is clicking on the brain, the AI tutor icon. You press the scenes button and this will show you different scenarios you can practice your English with. Let's practice one that can be really tricky. Complaining about food, especially if you're not sure how to phrase things. It's not a secret that here in America, the food can be bad. This is a great way to practice. Let's start."Welcome to our restaurant. How can I assist you today? Is there anything wrong with your order?""Yes, there is something wrong. I haven't gotten my food in a while, and I'm wondering what's the holdup. Can you ask the chef?""I sincerely apologize for the delay. That must be quite frustrating for you. Let me check with the kitchen right away and find out the reason for the hold up. Could you please let me know what you ordered?""Yes, I ordered steak.""Thank you for the information. I'll find out what happened to your steak order immediately. Please bear with me for just a moment. Thank you for your patience. It seems there was a mixup in the kitchen and your order is being prepared now. I am so sorry for the inconvenience. To make it up to you, would you like a complimentary dessert of your choice once your meal arrives?""Yes, that would be great. Thank you."That was great. You might know what the waiter will say after you do complain, but you might end up getting a free meal or a free dessert. In this case, it's complimentary, and that means the restaurant won't charge you for it. I feel so much more confident after practicing with the AI tutor. Now, let's take this confidence into the real world and practice complaining about food at a restaurant."Hey, is everything okay? You need something?""Yeah, I've actually been waiting on my refill for like over 30 minutes and I don't even know when my food's going to be ready. Can you ask the chef?""Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. I'm going to ask right now. It's just like right now we're pretty busy. Also, let me get a refill for you.""Okay.""Sorry about that. Maybe we can give you a free dessert for your wait.""Okay, that'll be great. Thank you so much."Wow, thank you so much. I just practiced a real-world scenario where I complained about my food and they just gave me a complimentary dessert which is completely free.

Vol220.日常英语学习Start Building Systems

获取全部英语文本和重点知识点请公众号搜索:yymaster888Hey everyone, welcome back to Podcast and Chill. I'm Leoand I'm Gwen. How are you feeling today? We hope you're still doing well and ready to learn something new with us.Leo, I want to ask you something. Have you ever felt like it's hard to handle work, study, health, family, and your hobbies?Oh, wow. Yes. All the time. I feel like I'm always trying to do everything, but never really doing well at anything. That's exactly what I thought. And here's another question. Why do so many people set goals but still can't reach them?Hm. Maybe because we give up too easily. I know I do that a lot.Right. And do you ever feel like days just pass by? And you're tired but feel like you haven't done much.Story of my life. I go to bed thinking, "What did I actually do today? It's annoying." And it's like every new year I make a big list. I'll go to the gym three times a week. I'll eat healthy. I'll learn a new language. Then what? Two weeks later, back to pizza and old habits. And the time feels like it's running fast, but still no change.I think many of our listeners feel the same way, Leo. But here's the good news. It's not because you're lazy or weak. The problem is not only with goals. The real problem is with the system.A system like a robot system? Not exactly. A system means your daily habits, your plan, things around you, all the things that help you move toward your goal step by step.Ah, I see. So, it's not about screaming, "This year I will change my life." It's about building something that can help change happen. And that's why today we'll talk about how to build systems to actually reach your goals before 2025 ends.Oh, that sounds much better because honestly, my 2024 goals are still waiting for me and I'm done feeling tired all the time.Perfect. So, let's start with something that might change how you think about reaching your goals.Hold on, Gwen. I want to ask you something first. We are talking about goals, big goals here, but many people give up quickly. Why does that happen?Let me ask you back. What usually happens when you try to reach a goal?Well, I get excited at first. I make a plan like yes this year I'll go to the gym every day but after a week my body hurts work gets busy and goodbye gym.Uh-huh. And you probably think I just need to try harder or I need more motivation, right?Yeah. I always blame myself for not trying harder or something like that. That's the challenge, Leo. People only use motivation. Motivation feels so strong in the beginning, like something new and exciting, but then after some time, the energy goes down and life makes it hard for you.Yep. That suddenly I'm sitting on the sofa with chips saying, "Tomorrow I'll try again." And then tomorrow becomes next week, next month, and the goal disappears. But don't worry, it's not you, Leo. The real problem here is the way you're doing it. Most people try to run only on willpower and motivation. But those things are like batteries. They run out.So now what? Do we just need bigger batteries? No. The answer is systems thinking.Systems thinking, that sounds very serious, like something in science.、It's actually very simple. Systems thinking means you shouldn't just try harder. Instead, build small habits that work together, like parts of a machine.Parts of a machine. So everything moves smoothly.Yeah. Let me give you an example. Think about brushing your teeth. You don't need motivation every night. You just do it because it's part of your system.True. I never say, "Oh, no. I don't feel motivated to brush my teeth today. I just do it."That's the point. We need to make learning or working become habits we do without thinking. Just like brushing teeth.Okay. But how do I build that system? Now let's use English learning as an example. If you say I will study 3 hours every night, it sounds too hard. You'll give up fast.Yeah, 3 hours feels like too much. But if you break it into small parts, it feels lighter.Small parts like Lego blocks.Yes, Lego blocks. Instead of saying, I'll study 3 hours every night, you break it into smaller parts. I'll study for 30 minutes after work right at the office before going home.Ooh, that makes sense.Or review for 15 minutes on the bus every morning and maybe study for 2 hours on the weekend. That's how it works. Each block is small, but when you connect them, they build into something big and strong.Exactly. You put together these small habits into one system. You fit them into your daily habits after work, during travel, on weekends. You don't have to fight with yourself every day. You already know when or where to study. That actually sounds easier than what I usually do. Like the system is working for me, not against me.You got it. And this idea works for everything, not just English. If you want to get fit, put your workout clothes near your bed so you see them first thing in the morning. Because of this system, it happens every day. Even if you don't feel motivated, you still do it.Wait, so you're saying I don't need to be super motivated all the time? No. The truth is motivation is never enough. On our worst days, it simply goes away. So, how are you going to do it, right?Oh, yeah. On bad days, I just want to lie down and watch TV.And that's completely normal, Leo. You don't need to be stronger. You just need to organize your life to make things easier.Wow, that feels nice. So, it's not about fighting harder. It's about making smarter plans. And once you start thinking in systems, you'll see getting better doesn't stop when motivation is gone. The system helps you keep going. Now, I'm curious, Gwen. How do we actually think in systems?Good question. It's not enough to just say, "I have a system." We need to know how to build it the right way.Ah, like building a house. You don't just throw bricks anywhere. You need to follow steps or the house will fall down. And systems thinking also has some rules to follow.Rules? Oh, no. Sounds important. How many do we need? Not too many. I'll keep it simple. And you can use them for study, work, and even daily life. All right, then I'm ready.Let's begin with rule number one. Think of the big picture.Big picture like looking at life from far away like a map.Something like that. It means don't only look at today. Try to see your goal from all sides. Ask yourself questions like what could stop me if I fail What would be the reason? What problems might I face? Now that sounds like planning for problems before they happen.Correct. And if you can see problems early, you can fix them before they start. Can you give me an example?Sure. Many people want to study at night after work, right? But at that time they are already too tired. So the real problem here is not English. The real problem is lack of sleep and low energy.Huh? If I always fail because I don't get enough sleep, then the answer is not more coffee. I need to sleep better and it means making sleep part of the system.Exactly. That's why thinking about everything is so important. All right, big picture. What's the rule number two?Rule number two, create a system you can use many times. You mean like copy and paste, huh?

I like to eat something sweet after lunch.Careful. If you order dessert, I'll eat half of it.No way. I'll order chocolate cake and guard it with my life.Waiter: Here you go. Chicken parmesan and beef stew. Enjoy your meal.Sara and Thank you.Oh, everything looks so delicious.Let's eat.Um, this is really good. Maybe ordering food in English isn't so scary after all.See, you can do it. You just need practice and a little courage.Tom's Doctor's VisitI don't like this, Dad. Doctors always make me nervous. I don't like the hospital.Son, it's not the doctor's fault. You're here to feel better, not worse.I know, but what if the doctor says something serious? I'm scared. Then we deal with it together. Don't worry. Everything will be fine.Hello, Tom. Hello, Mr. Davis. So, Tom, tell me, what brings you here today?Um, I've been coughing a lot, especially at night. Sometimes I feel short of breath.I see. Well, I need to ask you and be honest, please. Do you smoke? What? No, I never. No, I don't smoke. Never.Good. It's just a question. Do you spend time around people who smoke?Well, some of my friends smoke, but not me. I promise. He also eats a lot of fast food. Maybe that's part of the problem.Dad, please. That's not the reason. Don't say that.Well, food may not cause coughing, but healthy habits are always important. Let me check your lungs. All right. Now, take a deep breath and out.Your lungs sound fine. I think it may be allergies or maybe a small infection.Really? Are you sure, doctor? I don't want to be sick. Please.Yes. I'll give you some medicine. And I want you to drink more water, eat better, and rest.See, Tom, I told you it was nothing too serious. And you were worried.Yeah, you're right. I guess I was more scared than sick. That happens to many patients. Fear can feel worse than the real problem.Listen to the doctor, son. And remember, health is not only about medicine. It's about choices every day. Habits. You should remember that, son. You're right. I'll try to take better care of myself.Good. You'll be fine. Don't worry. Come back in one week for a checkup.Thank you, doctor. You know that maybe you should also eat less fast food.I like that idea. Maybe we both need a change. What do you think? Deal?I think that's a great idea. Then we start tomorrow.Tomorrow? I thought we were going to start today. Why not today?Because today is Saturday and Saturdays are pizza night.Movie NightFinally, we're here. I've been waiting all week for this movie. Are you sure this is a good idea? The reviews say it's 3 hours long.3 hours of action, explosions, and superheroes. That's not long. That's perfect.Okay, but if I fall asleep, don't wake me up. Do you hear me?Good evening. Welcome to Tangerine Cinema. Two tickets.Yes, please. Two for Galactic Heroes 5, the best movie. And one giant popcorn. We'll share. I don't have much money.Share? No way. I need my own bucket. Are you kidding? So, two tickets, two giant popcorns, and drinks.Large soda for me. Diet, please. I can't drink it with sugar. Are you serious? Water for me. I'm not crazy like him.Perfect. Popcorn, soda, water. That will be $28.Of course, worth every penny. You won't regret it. I promise.Wow, it was so dark in here. I couldn't even see the seats. You said, "I bet you $5." The hero says, "We must save the world in the first five minutes." And it happened. How did you know? Did you watch this movie? No, I haven't watched this movie before. But I knew that. I mean, I knew that was going to happen. It's typical of that kind of movies.Fine. But no more bets. Why was the villain always laughing like that?Because it's a villain rule. If you don't laugh like that, you're not scary. You're right. People were staring. We were talking too much. You were talking. I told you to shut up, but you kept asking questions. What do you want me to do? There were many things I didn't know.I told you to watch the previous movie, but you didn't want to.Fine, I will watch it. I liked it. It was different. It was interesting.See, I told you. 3 hours of pure happiness. Admit it.Or 3 hours of popcorn. All right, I admit it. It was a great movie.Okay, now let's watch another movie. Um, that one over there. Are you kidding? No, thank you. I can't handle three more hours. Bye.

Vol217.日常英语学习Shadow Your Way to English

获取全部英语文本和重点知识点请公众号搜索:yymaster888Hi everyone. Welcome back to Podcast and Chill. I'm Gwen. And I'm Leo.How are you today, Leo?I'm good, but there is this one question that keeps bothering me.What's that?Do you ever practice speaking English but still feel like your mouth doesn't move naturally?Of course, it happens to a lot of learners, especially the beginners. They can listen and understand English well, but it's hard for them to speak it.Our dear friends, if you're also facing this problem, this episode is for you. Today we will talk about a 10-minute shadowing practice.By doing this exercise daily, you will speak English more fluently and confidently, just like a native speaker.Even better, this 10-minute practice is actually easy and fun.Are you ready for it? Let's go.This speaking problem is quite common. I think almost every English learner has to deal with this. You're right. And it's so annoying. Think about it. You can hear the words and understand them. But when it's your turn to speak to them, you just can't.Somehow you don't sound like native speakers. And it doesn't feel right. It's like your brain knows what to do, but your mouth just won't want to help. You know the words, you understand the grammar, but speaking feels hard. That's such a perfect way to put it. And the worst part, you start comparing yourself to native speakers all the time. You hear them speak so easily, so naturally, and then you listen to yourself and think, "Gh, why do I sound so weird?"I get it. When we can't speak like native speakers, we usually feel like we're not good enough. We lose confidence slowly, and that loss is the beginning of the end. It's true. Confidence is what keeps our learning journey going. But it's hard to stay confident when you keep trying but see no improvement. You practice for weeks, maybe months and years, and you still feel stuck in the same place. And here's what makes it worse. We slowly stop trying to speak with peopleright? You might think, "Oh, I'll practice more first. I'll get better. Then I'll talk to people." But that day never comes because you're too scared to make mistakes.Yes. It becomes this big problem. The less you speak, the more scared you get.The more scared you get, the less you want to speak. Do you see the cycle? It's like being afraid of water but trying to learn swimming without going in the water. However, very few learners realize this one thing. They often make some mistakes that stop them from getting better.Right.Like we all know that practice makes perfect. We should speak more to speak better. But some people don't like to wait when they practice. They want results right away.Friends, remember this. You can't expect to sound like a native speaker just by practicing for a week. And what happens when people don't see quick results? They tend to lose focus fast and give up quickly. It's like going to the gym once and wanting to look like the rock the next day. Some do practice, but they choose the wrong materials to practice with. That's true. They often try to copy native speakers who speak too fast for their level.I know, right? It's like a beginner driver trying to drive like a race car driver on their first day. Of course, it's going to be hard.Suddenly, all English learners think of English as rocket science. That's why those learners give up fast after listening to native speakers. However, all these mistakes have the same cause. It's the way you learn the language. You only listen. You don't talk back. That's so right. People often just wait for the language to come to them instead of the other way around. They listen, they read, they watch movies, but they don't really join in. They're like passengers in a car instead of the driver. The solution is quite simple, though. It's to take in the language actively. By doing this, you are the one in control. When you're in control, you can decide if you get better or get worse. And what's the best way to actively take in English or any other language? It's shadowing.Shadowing, friends, what does this word remind you of? The dark shape that appears when you stand under the sun or light. You move and that dark shape moves. You run and that dark shape runs as well.If you're thinking about it, you're on the right track.Gwen's right. Just like your shadow follows your movements, shadowing is when you copy and repeat after what and how a person speaks. This practice is very popular. Many famous actors and actresses use it for their work. For example, Meyer Street used shadowing to learn Margaret Thatcher's British accent for the movie The Iron Lady.Although shadowing is really effective, it's surprisingly simple. Even doing it for 10 minutes a day, can help your English, both speaking and listening, improve a lot.How can only 10 minutes make that much of a difference? You might be asking this, but don't worry. It's not about how much time we spend practicing, but how we practice. That's right. Using 10 minutes properly can get you further than studying hour after hour in the wrong way. While it's true that spending hours listening to textbook audios can still give you some improvement, it's not much and is impractical. Plus, it's not like you can sit through even just one hour with 100% focus.Meanwhile, it's much easier for you to focus for 10 minutes. And what you get after these 10 minutes is actually useful.

Vol216.日常英语The Price of Irresponsibility

获取全部英语文本和重点知识点请公众号搜索:yymaster888Hello English learners. Welcome back to another episode of real life English conversations with Tangerine Academy, where we dive deep into situations that happen every day in every family, workplace, and life. Today's episode is emotional, real, and very eye-opening. We're going to listen to a serious conversation between two adult brothers. One is responsible and committed to his family, and the other, well, let's just say he's living in a world of excuses and luxury while avoiding responsibility. They talk about paying bills, helping their sick mother, and the constant unfairness that's been going on in their home. Through this story, you'll learn not only emotional vocabulary and useful expressions, but also how to communicate in English during difficult family moments. This isn't just a conversation; it's a live lesson in English. Let's get started.Hey, Leo, do you have a minute? I really need to talk to you about something important. If it's about money again, David, I'm really not in the mood. I've had a long week and I just want to relax.Well, I'm sorry, Leo, but this can't wait. We are running into serious issues with the house. The electricity bill is overdue, the water might get cut off, and the city sent us a fine because the business we run downstairs isn't meeting some municipal regulations. That's not my problem, man. You and the others run the business. I just live on the top floor and mind my stuff. But you benefit from everything we all pay for. Leo, you use the electricity, the water, the internet. You live here rent-free and never contribute. And now Mom's health is declining. We need money for the operation, and we all agreed to split the costs. You're the only one who hasn't sent a single cent.Look, I don't have the money right now, okay? Times are hard.Really? You just bought a brand new iPhone, set up a home gym, ordered designer clothes online last week, and showed up yesterday with a shiny new bicycle. You're not broke, Leo. You're just irresponsible. That's none of your business. I work hard for my money. I treat myself when I can.Working two shifts a week and sleeping in the rest of the time is not exactly working hard. We are all carrying your weight, Leo. Even Mom, who's sick, still manages to give you cash every now and then. You're taking advantage of everyone in this house. You're exaggerating. I don't ask for much. I just... I have different priorities.Exactly. And that's the problem. Your priorities are out of line. While we are trying to keep the house running and pay for Mom's medical bills, you're out there buying toys and partying. You've turned into a freeloader, Leo.Watch your mouth! I'm not a freeloader. Then prove it. Fit in. Help us. Stop pretending like you're not part of this family. When things go wrong, you hide. When there's money involved, you disappear. And when we confront you, you get defensive. This isn't the first time. Last year, the heating was shut off because you didn't pay your part. The same thing happened with the phone line and even the trash collection.Okay, okay. But you're also so uptight. It's like you don't know how to enjoy life. I mean, what's the point of working if you can't spend your money on things you like? There is nothing wrong with enjoying life, but ignoring your obligations—that's selfish, especially when others are paying the price. You don't even see what this is doing to Mom. She's exhausted, stressed, and sick. And you're still asking her for help instead of supporting her. She's strong. She'll be fine. She won't be fine unless we all step up. This family can't afford your negligence anymore. You're a grown man, Leo. Stop acting like a teenager. We're not here to fund your lifestyle while you shirk responsibility.Wow. So, I'm the villain now?No, but you're not a kid anymore. It's time to grow up. Help us fix this before things get worse. This fine from the municipality is just the start. If we don't pay it soon, they might shut the place down. And if we don't help Mom, who will?Look, I get it. I do. But right now, I just can't commit to anything. I've got my own stuff going on, and I don't want to be tied down with all these responsibilities. So, your answer is no?I'm sorry, man, but yeah. No.Then go, go back to your room. Do what you always do. But don't expect us to keep bailing you out. From now on, things will change. I won't fight with you again about this. You've made your choice.Fine. I don't need this drama anyway.David (to himself): It used to be different. We all helped raise him, but we enabled this. I just wanted him to care, to be part of this family. But maybe... maybe I have to let him go. Maybe the best way to protect this family is to stop protecting him. But what else can I do?

Vol215.日常英语学习Self-Love Not Selfishness

获取全部英语文本和重点知识点请公众号搜索:yymaster888You look a little lost in thought.Everything okay?Yeah, I'm fine. I was just thinking, we always talk about being a good friend, a good listener, and understanding others, right?Of course. That's kind of the heart of our channel.Exactly. But then I thought, what about the one person we spend every moment with? Ourselves.Wow, that's a really good point. Maybe the most important friendship we'll ever have is with ourselves. So today, let's flip the script. Not how to listen to others, but how to practice self-love and be our own best friend. How do we do that, though? Be a good friend to ourselves. Honestly, right now, I don't feel like my own friend. I feel like my own worst critic. What do you mean? What's going on?Well, for example, I was practicing for my English presentation and I kept stumbling over the same word, statistics. I must have said it wrong a dozen times. And my inner voice just started yelling at me. Why is this so difficult for you? Everyone else gets it. You should have practiced more. You're never going to be good enough.Oh, I know that voice. I sent an email last week with a typo in the client's name. I felt so embarrassed and I called myself an idiot for an hour straight.Right. But here's the thing. If I told you I'd made that typo, you would have instantly said, "Don't worry about it. It's a tiny mistake. It happens to everyone."Of course I would. So why is it so easy to be kind and forgiving to our friends, but we're so incredibly harsh and cruel to ourselves? It's exhausting. That is the real question, isn't it? And I think it's because we've never really been taught how to be on our own side. We think being hard on ourselves is what makes us better, but it actually just makes us feel worse.I get what you're saying. I really do. But I have to be honest, whenever I hear the term self-love, part of me just cringes a little. It sounds so self-indulgent, like it's all about bubble baths, expensive treats, and posting Instagram quotes about good vibes only. Isn't it just a dressed-up way of being selfish or lazy? It feels like it goes against everything we're taught about being humble and working hard.Thank you for saying that. Seriously, that is probably the most common misunderstanding about self-love, and it's why so many people struggle to embrace it. But what if I told you that self-love is the exact opposite of selfish? How? How is focusing on yourself not selfish?Think of it this way. Selfishness is taking from others to benefit yourself. It's demanding their time, their energy, their resources for your own gain without considering them. Self-love is about fortifying yourself so you have more to give to others. It's not about taking from others. It's about building up your own inner resources.Okay. So, if it's not bubble baths, what is it really? It's about the everyday choices. It's self-acceptance. It's looking in the mirror after a mistake and instead of calling yourself an idiot, saying, "I'm learning. It's okay." It's self-respect. It's choosing to eat a meal that nourishes your body because you respect it, not because you're punishing it. It's setting a boundary and saying no to a late work call because you respect your own personal time and need for rest. So, it's more about how you talk to yourself and the choices you make for your well-being.Exactly. It's practical. It's being a good friend to yourself. Imagine your best friend came to you feeling exactly how you feel right now. Tired, frustrated, criticizing herself over a small mistake. What would you tell her?I'd tell her to stop being so hard on herself. Everyone makes mistakes. That she's smart and capable. And one tiny thing doesn't define her. I'd tell her to take a break, maybe go for a walk to clear her head.Right? You'd offer her encouragement, not criticism. You'd suggest a boundary like taking a break. You'd want to protect her energy. That is self-love. It's treating yourself with the same compassion, patience, and support that you so freely offer to everyone else in your life. And you're saying that's not the foundation of being selfish. It's the foundation of everything else. It's the foundation of everything. Think about it. You can't pour from an empty cup. How can you be truly present for your friends, your family, your work if you're running on empty? If your inner world is filled with criticism and exhaustion, filling your own cup first through self-love isn't selfish. It's necessary. It's what allows you to show up as a better partner, a better friend, a better teacher, a better student. It's the solid ground you stand on so you can build a strong life and strong relationships.Wow. Okay. When you put it that way, it doesn't sound selfish at all. It sounds responsible. It sounds like stability.

Vol213.日常英语学习Real Tips to Master English

获取全部英语文本和重点知识点请公众号搜索:yymaster888This is the best way to improve your speaking, and nobody's doing it. Pay attention. What I did was...All right, guys. That's all for today. Remember to do your homework on page numbers seven and 15. I will check that tomorrow. Have a great day.Hi, teacher.Do you have another class after this one?Hello, Peter. Uh, no. Happily, I don't. I can go home and relax a little. It was a very tiring day today.Oh, yeah. I suppose so. Well, then I won't bother you any longer. Have a nice day.No, wait. Did you want to ask me something?Actually, yeah. But I don't want to bother you, so I can ask you tomorrow. Don't worry. No, no, that's okay. I am here to help, and I have a little extra time. Tell me, what can I do for you, Peter?Oh, thank you very much. Well, I want to tell you something. I had a terrible fight with my parents yesterday, and I think they will no longer pay for my English studies. So, I suppose this is it. I don't want to, but I guess I will have to quit English. Sorry.Oh, that's a pity. Can I ask you a question? How old are you, Peter?Me? I am 16. I will be 17 next month. Why?Oh, I see. Well, you're almost 17, so I think you're not a kid anymore. It's just an idea, but why don't you look for a job or something like that? I mean, in order to get money to pay for your English classes.Me, a job? I don't think so. I mean, I am too young to get a job, and I am studying at university. I don't think that's a good idea. Plus, I don't know how to do anything. I have never worked before, and I am sure my parents don't want me to work. So, no, I don't think so.Well, it is just an idea. I'm telling you this because when I was your age, I had to work to pay for my English classes. That was the only way I had to learn English.Really? I didn't know that. I would really like to know how you learned English. Can you tell me, please?I guess I can. Well, in fact, I was 15 when I started to work. My first job was as a waiter. I didn't know how to do it, but I learned very fast. It was not the best job, but I got great tips. I made a lot of mistakes when I was learning, but happily I could do my job well after a few months. So, I worked and studied at the same time. I think it was more common when I was your age. Nowadays, people don't want kids to work, and I understand that children should focus on their studies and enjoy that part of life. But sometimes when things are not going well, you have to do something about it. And that's what I did. I don't regret it. Thanks to that, I became an English teacher, and now I love my job. I mean, I love helping my students learn English.Wow, that's very interesting. But how could you handle both work and studies? I think if you study, you don't have time or energy to work. And if you work, you can't focus on your studies. Am I right?Maybe. I mean, it is not for everyone. Some people can't handle the pressure. But as I told you, when you have no option, you have to get used to it and little by little learn to manage the stress. And at some point, you end up enjoying it.I see. Um... I would love to know how you learned English. I mean, what routine or method you did so you could work and learn English at the same time. How could I work and learn English at the same time? Well, I guess this is something that could help you a lot now that you will be facing the same process. All right, let me remember. I suppose I have to start by saying that I worked 10 to 12 hours a day. I know it was crazy, but that was the only kind of job I could get back then. So, I started working at 7 in the morning and finished work at about 6 in the afternoon. Then I went to my English classes. I studied 2 hours every day from Monday to Friday, and on weekends I studied 3 hours by myself because I wanted to learn English as fast as I could. What methods I used? Um, well, I didn't investigate a lot. I just did different things. Some of them worked and others didn't. For example, I remember I had this book, an English book. I bought it from a street vendor. I just paid $5 for that. The book had the most important phrases to speak English. Basic phrases, of course. It also had the pronunciation. I am sure you could get this book in your city too. It was a simple, basic English book. I read it every day, and I tried to repeat the phrases first to myself. I mean, talking to myself and then out loud. Then I used these phrases in my English classes. My teachers corrected my pronunciation, and that's how I could improve.Wow, that's great. I think I have seen this book in my local market. I will buy it.

Vol212.日常英语学习Guide to The Hottest Words

获取全部英语文本和重点知识点请公众号搜索:yymaster888Hello, everybody. Welcome back to my YouTube channel. My name is Arian Lagringa, and in today's video, we are going to learn about slang words in English, specifically from my generation, Gen Z.So what is slang? Slang words and phrases are very casual and their meaning is completely different from what the individual words mean. For example, if I say "keep your cool," that does not mean to stay cold. It literally just means to stay calm. Slang is always changing, too. So, some terms like "what's up," which means hello in English, has been used so much that it's actually an idiom, which means the phrase is totally different from its meaning. So, "what's up" does not mean "what's up," but instead it means hello. But other slang is just trendy, popping up from music or movies just for a little while. Just be careful though, because using trendy slang in a formal place like a job interview, well, you might not come across as professional. All right, now let's hop into the video and learn some of the most common slang words that you'll hear from the younger generation or just on social media.SaltyDo you guys know what it means? It doesn't mean that people like to put salt on their food. No, instead, it means someone might get upset or frustrated over a small thing.Example 1: "My friend got salty because I didn't text him back."Example 2: "Hey, you're looking a little salty today. What's got you so annoyed?"Example 3: "Can you believe it? I just paid $20 for a car wash and a bird pooped on my car. I'm super salty."ThirstyIt doesn't mean you're thirsty for water or for a drink. No, this just means that someone is very desperate for attention.Example 1: "She's posting a lot of selfies. She's thirsty."Example 2: "Remember the guy from the bar? He was being super thirsty."Example 3: "Why are you always desperate for so much attention? Are you thirsty?"Ghost(as a verb)To ghost someone is to stop all communication with them. So, you don't text them, you don't call them, and you don't reply to them. Nothing. It's like you suddenly disappeared.Example 1: "I thought we had a good date, but then he ghosted me." (This means he completely stopped messaging me.)Example 2: "He's being super intense. I'm gonna ghost him."Example 3: "I really miss him. Have you ever had someone completely ghost you?"SituationshipA situationship is a romantic relationship, but it isn't clearly defined. So, you guys might be more than friends, but there isn't a label on it. So, you're not boyfriend or girlfriend either.Example 1: "He's not my boyfriend. We're just in a situationship, which means we're romantically involved, yes, of course, but there isn't a label on it."Example 2: "My brother's in a situationship. But now he's going to ask her to be his girlfriend. They're going to make it official."Example 3: "I want my man to take the extra step. He's not my boyfriend just yet, but we're more than friends. We're in a situationship."Low-KeyLow-key is a slang term and it's all about being subtle and understated. When you describe something as low-key, it's not a big deal or it might even be secretive.Example 1: "I'm having a low-key birthday party." (This means it's a casual, small party, and not a huge celebration.)Example 2: "I'm low-key obsessed with vacuuming my house."Example 3: "I can low-key fit into kids' clothes, which is a bit impressive, but a little bit weird, but it's okay because the deals are really good."

Vol211.日常英语学习Time Is Energy

获取全部英语文本和重点知识点请公众号搜索:yymaster888Hello our friends. Welcome to Pod and Chill.Hi. Hi. I'm Leo. Always ready to make you smile. And I'm Gwen. I like to share little tips and sometimes keep Leo in check.Keep me in check. That's your full-time job, Gwen. All right. All right. But today we're going to talk about something that touches all of us. Time. How we use it, how it passes, and how to feel good while managing it.Oh yes. Sometimes I feel like the day just runs away without me.And before we dive in, let's take a moment, sit back, relax, maybe stretch a little, and let's make this time together calm and comfortable. We'll play a small game in a minute to make this episode more fun and share ideas that can help you feel more in control of your day.Hey, that sounds fun. I love games, especially ones that make you think.Perfect. Let's get ready. Open your hands and join us. So, here's the game. Look at your hand. Each finger has a meaning. If it feels true for you, put that finger down.Oh, I like this already. Let's go.Okay. Put your thumb down if you often open your phone and scroll without knowing what you are looking for.Um, my thumb is gone already.Next. Put your index finger down if you start a task but rarely finish it. Put your middle finger down if you say, "I'll do it tomorrow." and keep procrastinating.Ouch. That's me again. Now, put your ring finger down if you spend an hour doing something that should take only 15 minutes.Don't judge me, Gwen. My ring finger is down.Put your pinky finger down if you always feel busy, but at the end of the day, you don't really achieve anything important.Oh wow, all my fingers are down.If all your fingers are down, maybe you're having problem with time management. If only a few are down, you can still learn new ways to handle time better. So basically we all need this talk.Exactly. Stay with us and we'll explore together. You know what, Leo? Those fingers from the game show why we can't control our time. Well, really? I thought it was just things.Well, you can see that the thumb is big, easy to see. It shows our biggest problem, being distracted. Phones, social media, random thoughts. They take our mind away from what we really need to do.Oh, I get it. The first reason is losing focus. I often check my phone when I'm working.Yes, exactly. Just one quick look can waste 20 minutes. That's why the thumb is the first enemy.Okay. Then the next finger, the index finger. What does it mean? The index finger points at many things. It means multitasking.Multitasking is when you do many jobs at one time, right?Yes. Many people think doing many jobs at the same time saves hours. But in real life they stop and start again and again. So everything becomes slower.Yeah. Like cooking while answering emails and also watching TV. In the end, nothing is done well.Right. Multitasking is not power, it's a trap.Next is the middle finger. I feel like this one has a strong meaning.Yes, it's delaying the bad habit of always saying I'll do it later and later never comes until the deadline is tomorrow and then you feel very stressed.Oh yes, I know that feeling. One small delay grows into a big problem.Yeah, the middle finger tells us that procrastination hurts our own future self. Then we have the ring finger. usually about love or promises. How is it related to time?Good point. The ring finger means jobs without deadlines. When you don't set a clear finish time, the work keeps going on and on, days, weeks, even months. And then you feel heavy like carrying unfinished tasks everywhere. So a deadline is like a wedding ring. It shows your promise.I really like that idea. Yes, deadlines help us stay true to our goals. And last is the little finger. It looks small. Does it mean a small problem? No, not small at all. The pinky finger means busy but not productive. People can spend the whole day doing many small things. Checking emails, fixing details, saying yes to everything. But in the end, no big result comes out.Oh, like filling a broken bucket. You work hard, but it never gets full.

Vol210.日常英语House Poor or Investment Rich

获取全部英语文本和重点知识点请公众号搜索:yymaster888Hey, Alex. Man, I heard the news. Congrats. You're finally buying your house, right?Yes, finally. I've been saving for years. It wasn't easy, but I managed to put together a 20% down payment. I didn't want to go with only 10% because the interest rate could have been too high. I've done the math many times, and I think it's the right moment for me.Wow. I mean, I'm happy for you. It's a big step, but honestly, I have to ask, are you sure this is a good idea? I mean, buying a house sounds great on paper, but isn't it just tying yourself down to debt for the next 30 years?I get it. That's what a lot of people say. But hear me out. I've been paying rent for the last 10 years. Let's say $900 per month. That's over $100,000 gone into someone else's pocket. With a mortgage, at least the money I pay each month is going towards something that will eventually be mine.Yeah, I hear that a lot, too. But you're also locking yourself into a 30-year mortgage, right? And that's not even including property taxes, home insurance, repairs, and all the stuff that comes with owning a home. Doesn't that stress you out?Honestly, a little. But I prefer the idea of owning something real. Plus, I bought in a growing area. The real estate market there is going up fast. My coworker Laura bought a place two years ago, and it's already increased in value by $40,000. That's equity, man. It's not just an expense; it's an investment, too.Maybe. Let me give you another angle. Let's say you put that $40,000 down payment into a diversified investment portfolio instead. Something like ETFs or index funds. Historically, the average return from the stock market is around 7 to 8% annually. With compound interest, that $40,000 could turn into over $300,000 in 25 years. No repairs, no taxes, just growth. That's true. If everything goes well. But markets go down, too. Look at 2008. Real estate feels more stable to me. People always need houses.Sure, but houses also crash. Remember the housing bubble? People were buying homes with bad loans and then lost everything. The truth is both are risky, but one is more flexible. If I invest my money, I can cash out if I need it. If I buy a house and suddenly lose my job, I still owe the bank a mortgage every month.I totally agree about the risk, but I made sure to buy within my budget. My mortgage payment will be around $1,100 per month. And I was paying $900 for rent before. It's not a huge jump, and my income is more stable now. And you know what? I like the idea of having something I can pass on to my future kids. That part makes sense. Generational wealth. I just feel like our generation is rushing into buying homes because our parents told us it's the right thing to do. But times have changed. Inflation, high interest rates, job insecurity. Maybe renting and investing makes more sense now.But if you keep renting, aren't you just throwing money away? Not if you're investing the difference. For example, you said your mortgage is $1,100. Let's say I keep renting for $800 and I invest the $300 monthly difference. With compound interest over 25 years at 7%, I could end up with about $250,000—and I don't have to fix a broken water heater or pay for roof repairs. That's a good point, but you're assuming you will actually invest that difference. Most people don't. They spend it on other stuff. Buying a house forces you to be disciplined. You have to make that payment every month. So, you're automatically saving. That's true for a lot of people. But I'm the kind who automates my investments. Every paycheck, I put a fixed amount into my portfolio. It's just as automatic as a mortgage. I just think people need to look at the full picture. A house is not just a price tag. You've got closing costs, inspection fees, maintenance, HOA fees in some places, and don't forget the capital gains tax if you sell it later.I know. I've done the math. The closing costs alone were about $6,000. I saved for that, too. But in my case, I'm planning to live in the house for at least 10 years, and maybe later I can rent part of it out, make it a source of income. It's not just about living in it.Now, that sounds more like an investment. If you can generate rental income from your home, that changes the game. But still, wouldn't it be easier to just invest and not worry about repairs or tenants? It depends on what you value, but for me, owning a home gives me security, pride, and a chance to grow something long-term. For you, maybe flexibility and liquidity are more important. I respect that.Fair enough. I guess there's no one-size-fits-all answer, but it's important that we think about these things carefully. Too many people rush in or just follow what others are doing without asking, "Is this the best option for me?"Exactly. That's why I waited. I didn't want to buy until I really felt ready. And if it turns out to be a mistake, well, at least I did it on my terms. You know, this reminds me of our coworker David. Remember him? He bought a house 5 years ago in the suburbs. But things didn't go as planned. A year later, his company transferred him to another state, and he couldn't sell the house quickly. He ended up paying both a mortgage and rent for 6 months. He said it was the most stressful time of his life.Yeah, I remember that. That's definitely a risk. But David also didn't do much research. He bought that house just because it looked nice, not because it was in a good area for resale or rental. I learned from that. I chose a location near public transport, schools, and hospitals. Even if I have to move, I could rent it out easily. That's smart. But you know who did the opposite? Sandra. She's been renting a small apartment for the last 8 years. Instead of buying a house, she put her savings into mutual funds and stocks. Now she's sitting on over $150,000 in her investment account—no mortgage, no repairs. She travels when she wants. She even works part-time now.True, but Sandra also has no kids and doesn't want to settle down. I want stability. I want a backyard, a place I can personalize, and eventually a home for my family—not just numbers in an account. And besides, she's very disciplined. Most people wouldn't keep investing like she did. They'd spend it on clothes, phones, or vacations.

Vol209.日常英语学习Rewire Your Brain

获取全部英语文本和重点知识点请公众号搜索:yymaster888Hey everyone, welcome back. Today, we're talking about something that messes with all of us: negative thoughts.Oh boy, my brain is basically a full-time manager of those, especially at 3 a.m.Right? Like when you're about to sleep and suddenly your brain's like, "Hey, let's replay every embarrassing thing you've ever done in HD all the time." It's like the bad comment is written in glowing neon letters while the good ones are written with invisible ink.So true. And here's the thing: none of this is actually our fault.Wait, what? Not my fault? Good. Who do I blame? My cat?Not this time. You can blame your ancestors. Our brains evolved with a built-in alarm system that's obsessed with spotting danger.Danger? Like what? Falling coconuts?More like tigers in the bushes. Thousands of years ago, if our ancestors missed a threat, it was game over. So, their brains became wired to notice problems first.Okay, that makes sense. Spot tiger equals live another day.Exactly. And that system was so crucial, it's hardwired into us. But here's the wild part: when that alarm goes off now, it doesn't just ring a bell in your mind. It floods your whole body with chemicals that make you feel stressed. It's like your brain cries, "Wolf!" and your whole body panics. Okay, so here's a question for you all. Have you ever had someone say one negative thing to you, maybe even years ago, that you still remember perfectly like it was yesterday? Does it happen to you? Let us know in the comments what it was. It's so frustrating because it feels like these thoughts are in control, not you. You try so hard to stop the negative spiral, but your brain just keeps pulling you back. Now, let's talk about what science says regarding negative thinking in our mind and body, how it actually affects us.Yeah. And it's pretty shocking. It's not just a bad mood. Science shows that negative thoughts create real physical changes inside of us. For example, when you stress or think negatively, your brain releases a chemical called cortisol.Cortisol? What's that? It's often called the stress hormone. It's like your body's alarm system. But when that alarm is constantly going off because of negative thinking, it's like crying wolf over and over. This high level of cortisol can weaken your immune system, making you more likely to get sick.Really? So if I'm always thinking negatively, I might actually get more colds.Exactly. It also affects your mind. Studies show that constant negative thinking can shrink the part of your brain responsible for memory and learning and it strengthens the part that creates more fear and anxiety. It's like a dangerous cycle.

Vol208.日常英语学习Finding Your Way Again

获取全部英语文本和重点知识点请公众号搜索:yymaster888Hi everyone, welcome back to Pod and Chill. This is the place where we slow down and just talk without rushing.Hi. Hi, I'm Leo. I talk a lot, sometimes too much, but I'll still keep it chill. And I'm Gwen. We're here to share some calm thoughts and maybe some small guidance.Yeah, we all need a little guidance sometimes, especially on days when our brain feels like a blank whiteboard. You know, after a night of poor sleep or a busy morning, your brain can feel like a blank whiteboard. You sit there and do nothing even though the day is waiting.I get that. It can feel really stuck sometimes.Yeah. Like the world is moving fast and you're frozen somewhere in the middle. That feeling is normal. Everyone has moments when they just don't know what to do. It could be at work, in your personal life, with relationships, or when facing a big decision. And when that happens, time slips away, motivation disappears, and stress quietly grows. So today we're talking about those moments when you just don't know what to do and how to find a gentle way to get unstuck step by step. Before we start, take a deep breath, my friends. Maybe pour yourself a cup of tea or water and just let yourself settle for a moment. Now buddies, close your eyes if you can. Picture the last few days. All the little things you had to decide. All the things waiting for your attention.Yeah. Like the world gave you a map with a million roads, but none of them have names. That feeling, having too many choices is more normal than you think. A new course, a job offer, starting a personal project, everything looks interesting, but somehow nothing feels clear. And the brain wants things to be clear. It wants a plan. But when there are too many ways to go, it just stops. You keep standing at the same crossroads again and again.Exactly. And it's not just too many choices. Sometimes we don't even know where to start. We don't have enough experience or information. The first step feels like walking in the dark.Oh, I know that one well. Just graduating and suddenly the pressure is on. Everyone else seems to know what to do. And here I am wondering if I even remember how to choose.Yeah, that pressure to make the perfect choice can stop anyone. Psychologists even call it paralysis by analysis.Huh? What's that? That means you think too much about what might happen. So you don't take any action. It's like your brain gets stuck trying to plan everything perfectly and you end up doing nothing.Oh, so yeah. I spent hours thinking about what could go wrong, what I might regret, and then I did nothing. It felt like my mind was stuck on a loop and I couldn't get out.And that loop, it's tiring. Not just in your head, but in your heart, too. When your mind and feelings are tired, even small decisions feel big. Choosing what to eat or what to wear can feel hard. And there's another thing. Sometimes I want everything at once. Different jobs, different experiences, different goals, but they can't all fit together. That feeling in your mind makes everything messy. Your heart wants one thing, your mind wants another. The more you fight it, the harder it feels. So, it's not laziness or weakness. It's just too much. Too much going on inside and around me.That's right. And here's something important. Everyone goes through this. No one has all the answers all the time. Feeling lost is part of being human. So what do we do? Just wait. Not exactly waiting. More like letting it be. Let the I don't know feeling stay for a while without judging it. Don't try to force an answer right away. Give yourself a little space to breathe. That actually feels good. Like some weight is lifted.Because it is. The brain needs that break. Accepting not knowing isn't giving up. It's letting your mind slowly find its way.And I guess the answers come little by little, not all at once.Exactly. Even small moments of rest. Even a few quiet breaths start helping you see clearly. Each small pause helps your mind sort things out. Friends, it's like slowly sorting a messy bunch of threads. You can't pull hard. You need to be gentle. Take small moves. And every time you accept not knowing, you practice patience. You tell yourself it's okay to be in the pause. And somehow, even with all the uncertainty, life feels a bit lighter, like I can breathe again. That's the base. You're not failing. You're not behind. You're just human going through a normal part of life, the part where paths are unclear and choices feel heavy. So maybe the first step isn't finding the answer. It's letting yourself be okay with not knowing. To rest, think, and untangle without pressure.Yes. Because step by step, one small choice at a time, the fog clears. And often answers come when your mind is calm, not when it's rushing. That actually makes me feel hopeful. And that's the key, friends. Slow, gentle steps. Hey, my friends who are listening to this episode, sometimes I bet some of you listening feel the same way I do, like you just don't know what to do next, right?Oh, I'm sure of it. I mean, who hasn't stared at a list of things and thought, "Okay, which one first or none at all?"Exactly. And it's funny. You look at other people and think, "Wow, they must always know what's next." But honestly, probably half the time they're just guessing, too.Totally. Even really successful people get stuck sometimes. I have a friend, a designer, who's won awards for his work. About a month ago, he spent 6 hours staring at a blank page, unsure how to start a project.Whoa, six hours? That's a long time. And the day before he had the same problem with a different design.Seriously, even award-winning designers get stuck like that. He's amazing at his job. But getting stuck doesn't mean he's failing. It happens to everyone.Phew. That actually makes me feel better. Maybe being stuck isn't the end of the world. Not at all. The first trick is staying calm. Don't push yourself to find an answer right away. Just breathe. Notice the I don't know feeling and let it be for a while.Huh? Easy to say, harder to do. I always want to fix everything immediately.I get it, but think about it like cooking. You don't dump all ingredients into the pan at once. You add them slowly, step by step. Same with decisions.Okay. Slow cooking for my brain. Got it?

Vol207.日常英语学习The Biggest Mistake

获取全部英语文本和重点知识点请公众号搜索:yymaster888This mistake made me lose a lot of money. It happened many years ago.Hello and welcome to another episode of Tangerine Academy, the channel where you learn English for real life. Today we'll be asking a very interesting question. What is the biggest mistake you have made in your life? Let's go find out what people in the street say. But remember, speak in English. This is your chance to be honest. Let's do it. Hello. Excuse me. I hope you're having a great day. I have a question for you. What is the biggest mistake you have made in your life? Be honest, please.Hello. Um, the biggest mistake I am not sure but I will think about it. The truth is that I made a lot of mistakes in my life. I am remembering them right now. But I think one that I will never be able to forget is not having learned English when I was younger. I mean, I speak English now, but I am in my 50s. I wish I could speak English when I was 20 or 30 because it would have helped me with an important opportunity at work.Really? Can you tell me what opportunity was that?I'm a computer engineer. I work for an international company. Many years ago, there was a call for staff to attend a conference in Dubai. The program was held in a five-star hotel. All expenses paid. You had to be a qualified engineer specialized in modern systems and have advanced English. I met all the requirements but my English was very basic so I couldn't go. After that I became very discouraged and began to hate English. I didn't want to know anything about English. I hated it so much. Seriously. So I didn't learn it. I decided my chance had passed, so there was no point in studying English. And what do you think? Four years later, they launched a new call for applications and the requirements were the same. This time the trip was to a five-star hotel in Paris. I wanted to kill myself. I said to myself, why didn't I learn English? That was my biggest mistake. Not so much not having learned English sooner, but having struggled with English and hated it. You never know when a good opportunity will present itself in your life. So, you have to be prepared for it. Now, of course, I speak English. And after 5 years, they called me again for a trip to Rome. And this time, I went. I liked it. But I always think it would have been great to go to Dubai and Paris. But anyway, that's the biggest mistake I've ever made.Wow, that was very interesting to hear. But now you speak English and that's the important thing. Thank you. Oh, hello. One question. What is the biggest mistake you have made in your life?Hi. Um, the biggest mistake? Well, I think the biggest mistake I've made in my life was not marrying the love of my life.Oh, I'm sorry. What happened? Tell me more.Well, she and I were together for many years. We dated in college. Then we decided to move in together and everything was going great. She loved me and I loved her. After 8 years, she told me we needed to talk about it. Marriage. She told me we'd been together for a long time and that she needed to know what direction her life was going to take. I I said to her, "What do you mean? We're two professionals who have good jobs and enjoy life." But that's not what she meant. She wanted to get married and have children. In fact, she'd already told me that when we were in college, but you know, anyway, I didn't want to get married. I mean, why get married if we were fine like this? We were already a solid couple, and that was enough for me. The idea of marriage did not interest me. So, I told her I couldn't get married because I didn't like it, that we were fine as it was. At first, she understood and told me, "Okay." But little by little, she seemed sadder. And I didn't know why. I hadn't realized that. Little by little, she was becoming more uncomfortable with the situation until one day she told me that if we didn't get married, we'd have to break up. I told her no. That I wasn't interested in marriage. that it meant nothing to me, that it was just a signed piece of paper, a simple formality. After that, a few days later, when I came home from work, her things were gone, she was gone. I was really upset because she had broken up with me over something stupid. But it wasn't just a trivial matter to her. It was something important to her. I asked her to come back with me, but she didn't want to. I got really mad at her and we didn't speak again. Well, the years passed and I realized I still loved her. So 5 years later, I decided to go find her and propose marriage so I could be with her forever. When I arrived, she was married and pregnant with her first child. And I well here I am missing her every day of my life. So that was the worst mistake I ever made. But you learned from that, I guess.Wow, that's a touching story. I hope you find a person to love and be happy. Let's continue. Hello. What is the biggest mistake you have made in your life?

Vol206.日常英语学习Speak Fast in English

获取全部英语文本和重点知识点请公众号搜索:yymaster888Hello, it's Arianita. Are you tired of speaking slow in English? Well, in today's video, I'm going to teach you how to speak really fast. Native speakers speak fast without even thinking about it, especially in casual everyday conversations.Today, we'll learn about reductions, and we want to use them most with friends and family. In more formal situations, like a job interview or a presentation, you'll probably use them less. But keep in mind, some reductions are so common that you'll hear them in professional settings, too.How to Shorten Question WordsWhen we ask questions in everyday American English, we often push words together to make them faster and easier to say. Learning these short forms is super important for understanding native speakers when they talk fast. Let's look at some common examples. What are you often sounds like what are you or whaddya. What are you doing?becomesWhaddya doing? What do you think of my new watch?becomesWhaddya think of my new watch? What are you looking at over there?becomesWhaddya looking at over there? What are you going to do for your birthday?becomesWhaddya gonna do for your birthday?Where did you often sounds like where did you.Where did you go?becomesWhere'd you go?Where did you put the other chair?becomesWhere'd you put the other chair?Where did you park the car? I can't remember.becomesWhere'd you park the car? I can't remember.Where did you eat?becomesWhere'd you eat?Where is it often sounds like where is it.Somebody said there's public parking. Where is it?I'm looking for my comb. Where is it?I've got to find a restroom. Where is it?What is your often sounds like what's your. What is your name?becomesWhat's your name? What's your favorite spot in Cincinnati? What's your favorite mural you've seen so far? What's your plan for today?Did you often sounds like did you.Did you eat yet?becomesDid you eat yet?Did you know the Robling Bridge was a model for the Brooklyn Bridge?Did you ever rent a scooter?Did you wash your hands? Why did you often sounds like why did you.Why did you lie?becomesWhy'd you lie?Why did you leave my phone on the ground? Look what happened. Why'd you decide to go to the park instead of the movies? Why'd you pick this place? It's too far away.Do you ever sounds like D'you ever or Jever.Do you ever play cornhole?becomesJever play cornhole?Do you ever go to a dog park?Do you ever play pickleball? These shortened sounds happen all the time when people are talking naturally. Don't worry about getting them perfect right away. How to Shorten Pronouns and VerbsHere's how we often shorten pronouns and verbs when we talk. In everyday American English, we love to push pronouns likeI,he,her, and verbs together until they sound like one smooth word. You will hear these all the time. Let's check out these common examples.I'm going to becomes I'm gonna.I'm going to the store.becomesI'm gonna go to the store.I'm gonna watch the game.I'm going to sit down and take a quick break.becomesI'm gonna sit down and take a quick break.I'm going to check out the new menu.becomesI'm gonna check out the new menu.Let us go can sound like let's go.All right, let's go.This stop is too crowded. Let's go to the next one.I'm getting hungry. Let's go find a place for dinner.I want to get some ice cream. Let's go inside.Give him a sounds like give him a.Give him a hand.He got a new job. Give him a high five.I told you he's nice. Give him a chance.Your friend looks sad. Give him a hug.Give her a sounds like give her a.Give her a chance.I'm going to give her a hand with that chair. Why don't you give her a call and find out?You should call your mom. Give her a call.I'll ask her sounds like I'll ask her.I don't know. I'll ask her.My friend knows how to make pizza. I'll ask her.She looks like a local. I'll ask her for directions.I think my friend has a membership here. I'll ask her about it.See how that makes everything flow together? In a normal conversation, native speakers almost never say each word separately. This isn't lazy or even bad English. This is just the natural rhythm of the language in casual conversations. This is actually how people expect you to talk.

Vol205.日常英语学习英语对话The Weight of Thoughts

获取全部英语文本和重点知识点请公众号搜索:yymaster888Hi guys, welcome back to Podcast and Chill. I'm LeoAnd I'm Gwen.I just want to say that I'm glad you're here with us today. You don't need to do anything right now. Just be here with us.Yeah. In this moment, just let the world slow down for a little while.Have you been feeling that kind of tired lately? The kind where your body feels heavy, but your mind just refuses to stop moving? You lie down, hoping sleep will take over, but your thoughts keep running one after another like a train you can't step off. You try to relax, but instead you find yourself keeping asking the same questions. Did I do enough? Did I say something wrong? What if?And before you know it, your heart feels heavy even when nothing is really happening. It's okay. You are not alone in this.So for today, you don't have to fix everything. There's no to-do list, no shoulds, just you here exactly as you are.Let's sit here together for a while, just softly talk about overthinking and how we might make a little more space in our minds. As we sit here breathing together, we can start by figuring out what overthinking really is.Do you want to try to say in one sentence what overthinking is? Hm. I would say overthinking is when your mind keeps thinking far more than you want and you can't seem to stop.Yeah. It's like you're standing still, but your thoughts keep walking around inside your head. No matter how small the worry is, it grows bigger each time it comes around. Suddenly, tiny things feel heavy. Getting out of bed or answering a text. Even deciding what to eat becomes a hard decision. You just stare at them for a long time. Frozen. And in your head, the same questions keep showing up. What if I fail? What if they don't like me?It's like, you know, a song on repeat, that one terrible line. You try to stop it, but it just keeps playing. You even try to distract yourself. Open your phone, scroll through something, but the song's still there, playing under everything. And your body feels it, too. Not just for a moment, but all day. Your chest tightens. Shoulders feel like you've been carrying a heavy bag for hours. It's not just about feeling tired. You even lose interest in the things that used to make you happy. After a while, it's like the world slows down around you. You want to join in, but something inside keeps pulling you back. You turn down plans, disappear from conversations.I remember one morning I just stared at my phone for 20 minutes. There was one message, just a simple, "Sorry, I can't make it from a friend." For most people, it might have been nothing, but in that moment, my mind wasn't calm. I read it three times, and each time I imagined a hundred different reasons behind it. I couldn't type a single line back. My heart was racing. I felt silly, like, why can't I just do it? And the worst part is that I blame myself. What's wrong with me? Just reply. But then I think more and I blame more. Oh, Leo, it's okay. We all get trapped like that sometimes. I feel you. Those thoughts, they become a loop inside your head like a hamster running in its wheel. But why does it happen? Why can't we just stop? That's the thing. Overthinking never comes alone. It always brings a friend. And that friend's name is sadness. Wait, so when I'm stuck in that loop, your brain is actually trying to fix the sadness. It wants to find the problem and make it go away. So it thinks and thinks and thinks. And what if there's no problem to fix, no answer to find?Maybe. Sometimes you don't need an answer. You're not really looking for the truth. You're just trying to avoid the pain. What's wrong with it, though? Nobody wants to be hurt. There's nothing wrong with it. It's just the way your mind tries to keep you safe like a guard dog barking at shadows. Then why why does it have to feel like it's too much?Because your mind is working over time. Imagine walking through a dark forest with a flashlight in your hand. At first, the light helps you see, but when your brain starts moving it over every leaf, every crack in the ground, shouting, "Look, danger!" It stops showing you the way. You can't see the ground right in front of you or the signs that you're okay. You only see what could go wrong. No wonder I feel exhausted because I'm always on alert. The truth is the forest is just life. The flashlight is your positive thoughts. It can help you see in the dark. But when the mind panics, it swings the light everywhere, turning shadows into danger. And you, you're still safe, even in the dark.

获取全部英语文本和重点知识点请公众号搜索:yymaster888I didn't know you knew how to cook a chicken stew. Wait, we haven't finished yet. Now, hey, Dad, what are you doing?Nothing. Well, I am sending an email. I need to deliver this report today.Oh, all right. Aren't you hungry? It's lunchtime already.Wow. I thought it was early. Now that I'm working from home, I don't realize how fast time goes by.What do you want to eat?Um, I don't know. Something delicious.Okay. Why don't we order a pizza? I will call the restaurant. What kind of pizza do you want?Pizza? No, I don't want pizza, Dad.All right, then. Let's eat fried chicken. I know a great restaurant near here.Hey, what happened? Don't you like fried chicken? Come on, it's delicious.Yeah, I like fried chicken and pizza, but I want something homemade. Mom usually cooks something delicious for lunch.Oh, I see. But mom is not here. Remember, she had to travel to see her father because he's sick. We're going there tomorrow.Yes, I know. Okay, then fried chicken will be. It's just that I thought you knew how to cook something. But I guess you don't, Dad. Don't worry. We'll have something nice to eat when mom gets back. Let's go.Hey, don't try to manipulate me like that. You know it won't work.I'm not trying anything. I already told you we can go out for pizza. It's okay that you don't know how to cook. Not everyone knows how to make delicious meals like my mom.Are you kidding? Of course, I can cook and I cook very well. I cook very delicious food. Let's go to the kitchen right now.Perfect. Let's go, Dad.Okay. I will teach you how your dad prepares something delicious. We will make a delicious stew. Chicken stew. This is a secret recipe I stole from your grandmother.Oh, first the ingredients. One whole chicken cut into medium pieces or about 1 and 12 kg. 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil or olive oil. One large onion chopped. Three cloves of garlic, minced. Three medium carrots sliced into rounds. Two medium potatoes peeled and diced. One red bell pepper, chopped. Two ripe tomatoes chopped or one cup canned tomatoes. Four cups of chicken broth or water with a chicken bullion cube. One bay leaf. One teaspoon of paprika. Salt and pepper to taste. Fresh parsley chopped for garnish.Wow, that's a lot of things that. And how do we make this delicious stew? All right, here's how we do it the step by step. First, heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat until it gets very hot. Right. No, no, not too hot. We don't want to burn anything. Now place the chicken pieces in and brown them on all sides. That's where the flavor starts. Do you smell that?Yeah. It smells like fried chicken because it is fried chicken. But it is just the beginning. Now take the chicken out for a moment. And in that same pot, add the onion, garlic, carrots, and bell pepper.Onion, garlic, carrots, and bell pepper. Got it. What else?and stir them gently until the onion turns soft and the smell starts to make you smile.Makes me smile. Okay, I am smiling now.Okay, now add the tomatoes and paprika. Stir again and let everything cook for a couple of minutes until the tomatoes start breaking down. Do you see that?Yeah, that it smells really good. I didn't know you knew how to cook a chicken stew.Wait, we haven't finished yet. Now, put the chicken back into the pot. Pour in the broth and the bay leaf and season with salt and pepper. Bring it to a gentle boil. Then reduce the heat to low. Cover it and let it simmer for about 30 minutes. So we have to wait for 30 minutes. Now I am hungry.Relax. Delicious food always makes you wait. Meanwhile, I will tell you a little story. When I was your age, I used to cook for my brothers and sisters.Really? I don't believe you. You cooked when you were just 10 years old.Of course. And I did it very well. I had to learn how to cook because my parents worked all day. Your grandparents had a little store in our house and sometimes your grandma started cooking but never finished. So I learned how to cook to help them and I also did it because I liked to cook. I think it was something I knew how to do it well. Then when I started college, I didn't have time to cook. So I forgot some things. But hey, now I see that I didn't forget everything. I still love cooking.Well, you haven't finished the chicken stew yet. We have to try it first.Trust your dad. You will love it. Believe me. Cooking at home is important. Street food isn't very healthy. Besides, it's more delicious to eat homemade food. What do you think if we see how this stew is?All right, let's go because I'm really hungry and it smells really good.Let's see. Um, it looks very well. After that, add the potatoes, stir them in, and cook for another 20 minutes or until the potatoes and chicken are tender.Another 20 minutes? No, please. I am very hungry.Come on, it's just 20 minutes. Let's take advantage of the time and tell me how is the school going. The school, it's fine. Nothing new.Are you sure? What about your friends? My friends? They are fine. We are fine. Marcus and Jonah are still my friends. And we usually play soccer after school. Oh, the exams were difficult, but I think I will get good grades. And I think that's all.Really. And what about Johanna?Johanna, how do you know about her? Who told you that?I just saw your notebook yesterday. Her name is all over your notebook. She must be very beautiful, right?

It'd be nice if they could just call and say no, but I guess they have so many job applicants they just can't. I'm just so desperate for a job. What have you applied for?Well, I've never studied or trained in anything, so I've applied for laboring jobs and jobs working with the public, that kind of thing.Ah okay, I know how hard it can be to get your foot in the door. Fingers crossed for you, man. Thanks, and if you hear of any jobs going, put in a good word for me, yeah?I will do that. Thanks, man.Oh wait, my phone is ringing one sec. Hello? Yes, this is Walter Carr. Oh, that's such great news, thank you so much. Yes, I'd love to work at Bellhops. A trial? Yes, I'd love to come in. Tomorrow? What time? Yes, 9am is perfect. That's no problem at all, that's great. Thank you very much, bye.Yes, I can't believe it, I've got a job! That's amazing, I'm so happy for you. Where's the job? It's at Bellhops, a moving company. What will you be doing there?I'll work as a mover. I'm going to help people move out of their home. I'll start tomorrow. I have to help a family move from Pelham to the Meadowbrook area. That's great. Can you make good money as a mover?Yes, I'll be able to make up to twenty dollars an hour. It's come just in time. I should be okay to pay rent on my apartment now. If not, I'd be so close to losing it and having nowhere to stay, then it would be a downward spiral. My door is always open, but this is definitely a better outcome. Good luck. Thanks, I'd better get home and get my bag ready.Oh man, don't believe this, the engine won't start. Just my luck. How am I supposed to get to work tomorrow? I don't even have money to have it repaired. Looks like I'll be walking to work. There's no way I can miss my first day. I'm going to get this job by all means. Let me check Google Maps. By foot, it'll take eight hours. Oh man, I'll have to wake up at midnight and get going. But I don't have a choice. I have to keep this job.Oh my legs are killing me. I'd better rest for a few minutes.Hi there, young man, what's your name?Hi there, officer, it's Walter, sir.Walter, can I ask what you're doing walking along this dangerous stretch of road at this time of night?I know this must look bizarre. It's a long story, but cut short, it's this. I've applied for so many jobs, yesterday I had a call back and they want me to start tomorrow, well today now. But then my car broke down. I have to keep this job otherwise I'll lose my apartment, so I decided to walk. It'll take me eight hours in total and I've done six, so really I'm almost there.Wow, kid, that's some dedication, I'm impressed. Thanks, sir.Where are you heading? Where is your new job? It's at Bellhops, Pelham. I'll be a mover.Good on you. Hop in, we'll take you the rest of the way.Are you serious? Thank you so much.Have you had breakfast? No, I spent all my money on my apartment and won't have more until I start this job.You must be starving, we are too. I'll stop at the next drive through. But I don't have any money to give you. I just paid my rent. I have no cash on me at all.Not a problem, for your dedication, this one is on us. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.Thank you so much.Thank you. Hi, officer, what can I do for you?Hi there, I have a special delivery of one Mr. Walter Carr. He is part of the Bellhops team.Hi.Hi, Walter, can I ask why he has arrived accompanied by two police officers?Well, Mrs. Lamy, this young man, Walter Carr, had a few problems last night. His car broke down, but instead of phoning to cancel his first day, he decided to walk the eight hours to get here. We found him six hours in and brought him the rest of the way.Goodness, Walter, I am impressed with your commitment, but if you had called, we would have understood.Thank you, Mrs. Lamy, I really needed this job though and didn't want to do anything that could jeopardize it.Well, he's had breakfast but might not show you his best this morning after being awake all night. But I'll leave this with you now, Mrs. Lamy. Good luck, Walter, it was great to meet you.It was great to meet you too. Thank you for helping me out. I can't express just how grateful I am.No problem, it's been a pleasure to help you.Yes, thank you so much, officer. Goodbye.Well, Walter, would you like a nap before you start work?Oh no, Mrs. Lamy, please, I'd rather get started. Please call me Jenny. Are you sure? No, honestly, I'd just like to get started. No problem. Here are the other two movers from Bellhops too.Hi, I'm Walter and I'm your new teammate.Oh hi, Walter, our boss told us about you. I'm John and this is Matthew. Welcome to the team.Thanks. I'm going to show you the ropes. Let's get started. What a kid, I've got to post this on Facebook. I've never known anything like it.
