Today we'll talk about Taiwan's springtime flower season and which spots you can visit to enjoy the beautiful sights. As the pandemic situation begins to ease and countries gradually open up, winter ends, and Taiwan's spring flower season arrives. Let's take a look at some of the places you can go to enjoy the springtime blossoms. First, let's visit Meifeng Farm in Nantou, where the peach blossom season is in full swing. Meifeng Farm is located in a climate that covers subtropical, temperate, andr sub-frigid zones, making it ideal for planting a wide variety of plants. Since there is very little wind here year-round, it is also known as "no wind" in Chinese. There are various kinds of flowers grown here, such as violets, lily-of-the-valleys, and tulips. Additionally, there's a beautiful peach blossom corridor where the trees form a Y-shaped arrangement. The peach blossoms are gorgeous and dreamy, making for perfect photo opportunities. Next up is the cherry blossom season in Alishan, Chiayi. During this period, the mountains are surrounded by various shades of pink, white, and peach-colored flowers in the Alishan National Scenic Area and Forest Recreation Area. Once the oldest Alishan divine tree blooms, other cherry blossoms will gradually blossom as well. In Alishan, there's a cherry blossom trail that's only 130 meters long, but the scenery is enchanting. There's also the Three-Generations Cherry Blossom Path, where a giant red cypress tree has grown from the same root for three generations. This spot has always been one of Alishan's most popular cherry blossom viewing sites. Walking along this trail allows you to see a variety of cherry blossoms in bloom. Here's a little secret - there's a tea plantation called Linji Tea Mountain beside Alishan that's covered in lush green tea bushes, and some cherry trees are blooming nearby, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy nature. Apart from enjoying the flowers, what other exciting things can you do in Alishan? You can hop on the most famous Alishan Forest Railway!Both the main line and the branch line offer views of various plant species that change with altitude. I want to introduce you to the beautiful Alocasia plants in Zhuzihu, Yangmingshan. First, there are two areas to see these plants: the lower lake area and the upper lake area. Let me first take you to the upper lake area, where you can find the Ming Yang Pu Leisure Farm. In addition to these beautiful flower spots, there are also some recommended restaurants to satisfy your hunger. The Guan Chen Restaurant is one of them and they have two signature dishes that you should try. The first is the White Cut Chicken, which is made by boiling the chicken in hot water or broth and then seasoning it. That concludes our tour of Taiwan's spring flower season. Hi Im Savanna! Welcome back to our monthly series of This is Taiwan! Today we’re off with another episode of must-go places in Taiwan. If you're looking for a place that is rich in culture, natural beauty, and adventure, then eastern Taiwan is the perfect destination for you. Eastern Taiwan is a popular destination for travelers, there are two counties in the east, Hualien and Taitung. You can get there by car, by bus, or by train. If you depart from Taipei, you’ll arrive in Hualien first. 吉安is a town in the north of Hualien. Back in the Japanese occupied era, most of the immigrants there were from Yoshinogawa in Mandarin, 吉野川, so they called the town 吉野. And after WW2, the government of Republic of China, Taiwan, changed the name to 吉安. Ji’an Shrine is a popular historic site for tourists to visit nowadays. It was built in 1917, and was a sacred place for the Japanese immigrants who came here to find peace and to cure their homesick. Heading a little down south, you will find yourself in a town of a beautiful lake. 壽豐 is famous for 鯉魚潭, Carp Lake. This beautiful lake is surrounded with mountains. Many people would rent paddle boats or canoes to cruise around. You can also rent bikes to ride around the lake. As for the name of the town 壽豐, is actually a combination of two names of two japanese-built villages, 「壽」村and「豐田」村. Next, there’s 玉里township, famous for its delicious 玉里noodles. I always crave for 玉里noodles when I visit Hualien. This cuisine may seem just like any other kind of Taiwanese noodles you see in the nightmarkets or local noodle shops. But! Let me tell you, 玉里noodles have their own kind of magic. You can order noodles stirred with sauce, or served in broth. The broth is made from pork bones and dried shrimp. It is typically seasoned with soy sauce, garlic, and other herbs and spices, and often includes ingredients such as sliced pork, bamboo shoots, scallions, and mushrooms. Travel south and we will arrive in Taitung. Taitung is known for its breathtaking natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and delicious local cuisine. Firstly, we have 三仙台, which means "Three Immortals Terrace" in Chinese. According to legend, three immortal beings once visited this place and left their footprints on the rocks, which can still be seen today. The three immortals are believed to have helped the local fishermen by controlling the tides and protecting them from the sea monsters. Sanxiantai is also known for its stunning dragon bridge, which spans across the ocean and offers a spectacular view of the coastline. Next, we have 池上. Chishang is named after a large pond that used to be in the center of the village. The pond was surrounded by mountains, giving it a picturesque and serene atmosphere. Today, the pond has been filled in, but the name "Above the Pond" still reflects the village's tranquil setting. 池上 is popular among tourists as well, you can cycle through the rice fields which is especially beautiful when the rice are ready to harvest. Next, let’s take a look at 知本. The name "Jhiben" comes from the Paiwan indigenous language. It means "place of the hot water," referring to the natural hot springs that are found in the area. The hot springs are known to be both relaxing and therapeutic. You can also explore the nearby scenic areas, such as Jhiben National Forest Recreation Area, which has hiking trails, waterfalls, and a suspension bridge that offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
