Welcome to our new book discussion series: Interacting with Peikoff’s DIM Hypothesis.
Pastor Jeffrey Kahl joins as we offer a Christian interaction with Leonard Peikoff’s cultural analysis in his book The DIM Hypothesis: Why the Lights of the West Are Going Out.
We talk about key parts of the book that relate to our goals as Christians, as either pastors, teachers, parents, leaders in society. We ask what we as Christians can gain from this book as we seek to understand the direction of culture.

The post FTNCI 108: Interacting with Peikoff’s DIM Hypothesis (Week 02) first appeared on For the New Christian Intellectual.
Why is humanity crazy and seemingly on decline? I saw this question asked on social media recently.
If you're like me, you've probably seen a lot of people talking about this topic. The direction of humanity is shaped by their chosen sets of beliefs and ideas. Beliefs lead to character. They lead to choices and they end up building civilization.
If you would like more information about this, there's an excellent book and that is what we're talking about today. This is Leonard Peikoff's book, The DIM Hypothesis: Why the Lights of the West Are Going Out.
I'm going to be discussing this in a 14-part video series, and bringing on my friend Jeffrey Kahl. We will talk about key parts of the book that relate to our goals as Christians, as either pastors, teachers, parents, leaders in society.
We will ask what we as Christians can gain from this book. How is it useful for understanding the direction of our culture?
The New Intellectual Book Study is a free book club discussing For the New Intellectual, by Ayn Rand.
This week our reading was pages 177–192.
Here we are concluding our look at John Galt’s speech and our review of one of Ayn Rand’s key contributions to philosophy, her book For the New Intellectual.
This book was our main inspiration when we named our podcast For the New Christian Intellectual. If you’ve been following the video discussion, you’ll understand why.
About the Book Study:
Today’s society is degenerating into a cult of despair. Not even churches are immune.
In For the New Intellectual, Ayn Rand gave a brilliant overview of the status of Western culture, what brought us here, and how to bring a second Renaissance. The book is a good first or second read for someone wanting to understand Ayn Rand’s Objectivism.
Rand offered the book as a collection of the essential ideas in her philosophy “for those who wish to acquire an integrated view of existence.” Rand’s goal was to advocate against mysticism, altruism, and collectivism, and for their opposites: reason, individualism, and capitalism.
This book study was designed for Christians interested in understanding Rand’s work and finding out where her insights can be valuable specifically to Christians.

The post FTNCI 106: Christians Discuss John Galt’s Speech (5/5) first appeared on For the New Christian Intellectual.
The New Intellectual Book Study is a free book club discussing For the New Intellectual, by Ayn Rand.
This week our reading was pages 164–177.
Here John Galt explains the reason that the nation’s producers are going on strike. He points to the evil of the moral code that dominates society, the code of other-ism (philosophical altruism).
Galt says, “We who were the living buffers between you and the nature of your creed are no longer there to save you from the effects of your chosen beliefs. We are no longer willing to pay with our lives the debts you incurred in yours.”
This is a confrontational section. It is the call to action.
