Description

The Mises Institute exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian school of economics, and individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard. These great thinkers developed praxeology, a deductive science of human action based on premises known with certainty to be true, and this is what we teach and advocate. Our scholarly work is founded in Misesian praxeology, and in self-conscious opposition to the mathematical modeling and hypothesis-testing that has created so much confusion in neoclassical economics.

TAGS Free Markets Monopoly and Competition Subjectivism Walter BlockThe true test of our commitment to personal liberty doesn't come when we permit others to engage in those peaceable, voluntary acts with which we agree. It comes when we permit others to engage in peaceable, voluntary acts we find offensive. Walter Block's Defending the Undefendable II contains thirty chapters defending behavior that is probably offensive to most Americans, and many that are downright illegal. This book features a foreword by Ron Paul. Narrated by Patrick Smith.Download audio file READ MORE

Woods, and an introduction by Dr. Patrick Newman. Narrated by Millian Quinteros.  Author:  Murray N. Rothbard  Murray N. TAGS  Calculation and Knowledge Interventionism Political Theory  Hans-Hermann Hoppe's first treatise in English — actually his first book in English — and the one that put him on the map as a social thinker and economist to watch. He argued that there are only two possible archetypes in economic affairs: socialism and capitalism. All systems are combinations of those two types. The capitalist model he defines as pure protection of private property, free association, and exchange — no exceptions. All deviations from that ideal are species of socialism, with public ownership and interference with trade. Narrated by Jim Vann. Download audio file  READ MORE
TAGS War and Foreign Policy Political Theory  Hans-Hermann Hoppe takes on the most difficult subject in economic and political theory: the provision of security. He argues that the service is better provided by free markets than government, while addressing a hundred counter-arguments. Here we have an important updating of an argument rarely made even in the libertarian tradition. Narrated by Jim Vann. Download audio file  READ MORE

Zack Rofer's work explodes both sets of myths, and is both a primer for those taking a first look at these topics, as well as a tool for libertarians looking to sharpen their advocacy.  Narrated by Jim Vann.  Download audio file READ MORE

Liberty, Dicta & Force

2019-01-3003:13:361

TAGS  Big Government Political Theory   Louis E. Carabini  Advancing social ideas that do not demand obedience or compliance requires far more personal patience than simply forcing others to comply via the political ballot box. The widely held idea that dicta and force can serve a useful purpose will eventually fade into backward thinking in the so-called public sector as it has in the private sector. Time, nature, reason, and the human spirit will see to that. Irrespective of good intentions or the approval by consensus, nature's unrelenting feedback will gradually drive ruling political authorities to extinction. Narrated by Daniel Bennett. Rothbard After World War II, the "Old Right" was derailed by an interventionist group of anti-communist crusaders—and Libertarian ideas went by the wayside. Here, Murray Rothbard tells the sorry tale from the inside. Narrated by Ian Temple. Download audio file READ MORE
TAGS  Education Murray N. Rothbard What is it about today's school system that so many find unsatisfactory? Why have generations of reformers failed to improve the educational system, and, indeed, caused it to degenerate further and further into an ever declining level of mediocrity? In this radical and scholarly monograph, Murray N. Rothbard identifies the crucial feature of our educational system that dooms it to fail: at every level, from financing to attendance, the system relies on compulsion instead of voluntary consent. In contrast, a market-based system of schools would adhere to a purely voluntary ethic, financed with private funds, and administered entirely by private enterprise.
