The Bible says that a man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart. Jesus told of a Pharisee who appeared righteous and godly, yet was filled with pride and self righteousness. When a nation loses a war, their defeat is shown by their surrender to the enemy forces and submission to their terms. But in the spiritual realm, surrender and submission is the path to victory. But if it has not completely hardened, the potter can add moisture and work with the clay until it becomes soft and usable. There is no such thing as a married bachelor. Marriage and singlehood are mutually exclusive and the man is either married or unmarried. According to the Bible, salvation by grace and salvation by works are mutually exclusive systems. You cannot have salvation by grace + works. It must be one or the other.
