In this episode, regular host Alexia is joined by Monash University lecturer Felicity Chapman to discuss the work of writer, director and actor Julie Delpy. Later, Djoymi talks with Shelley Stamp from the University of California Santa Cruz to celebrate the work of film pioneer Lois Weber. Alexia chats with director Beth Elise Hawk on her documentary film Breaking Bread, and finally Cary McQueen, founder of Art with Impact, sends us a postcard from San Francisco. Then we follow that with a look back at 2019 when we identify the key moments or images from a year on screen culture, as well as identifying those we felt emerged this year, and we eulogise those that we lost. In this months Senses of Cinema podcast, Kirsten and Mark are joined by Cesar Albarran Torres, and we talk The Irishman, Netflix and fantasies of de-aging. In this month's Senses of Cinema Podcast Kirsten's back, and along with Mark we are joined by Irina Herschner and Luke McCarthy, so it's four hosts for the price of one. We start out by tackling Quentin Tarantino's nostalgic look back at the 60s with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and follow that up with a look at all of the great cinema that played out across MIFF 2019. Then we move onto The Australian Dream, the powerful documentary by Daniel Gordon that looks at the extraordinary events that impacted the life and career of indigenous footballer Adam Goodes. We wrap up of course with our recommendations, and for the patrons of Senses of Cinema, Mark and Kisten look back at the life and career of the recently departed Peter Fonda.

This month we bring you two guest hosts to join Mark - Tim O'Farrell and Dan Edwards. We discuss Bong Joon-ho's Cannes winning film Parasite, and then discuss the work of guest of MIFF, Peter Strickland. The we take a look at the Melbourne International Festival's program, and suggest a few films that will be worth chasing down. We end of course with our recommendations for the month, and for our patrons, the bonus segment this month features a discussion on Martin Scorsese's new Bob Dylan documentary, Rolling Thunder Revue. In the May episode of the Senses of Cinema podcast, Kirsten and Mark tackle the final season of Game of Thrones and debate who indeed deserved to be seated on the Iron Throne. Then we are joined by our third chair, the wonderful Eloise Ross, who returns to help us discuss the life and career of Doris Day, who died this month at the age of 97. And then we talk the Netflix series Dead to Me where two best friends are drawn together by one dead husband. We finish as always with our recommendations for the month of May, and in our bonus for our patrons, Michelle Carey files a special report from the Cannes Film Festival. In the April 2019 edition of the Senses of Cinema podcast, Kirsten and Mark are joined by producer and academic Liz Burke to talk about Lee Chang-dong's enigmatic festival favourite Burning. Then we discuss the life and career of the sorely missed Agnes Varda, and Liz talks about the time she visited the studio of this incredible filmmaker. And then following on from Sucheta Chakraborty's excellent interview with Elizabeth Sankey in our latest issue, we discuss the strengths and frustrations of the romantic comedy. We conclude as always with our recommendations for April, and for our wonderful patrons Liz, Kirsten and Mark discuss the best films to watch over Easter. 

In the March edition of the Senses of Cinema podcast we welcome Kirsten Stevens to the mic as our new co-host. Also joining us is Liam Burke in our third chair, as we all take on the secret history of Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel. Then we discuss Barry Jenkins' adaptation of James Baldwin's If Beale Street Could Talk, and we round out with a look at the cinema of Guillermo del Toro, who is featured in the current issue of the journal. We end on our recommendations as always, and for our patrons our bonus segment features a discussion of the the screen items we finally caught up with over the New Year break.

It's the Senses of Cinema podcast Holiday Edition! While Eloise is getting ready for a busy work year, and Mark is finalising the Senses World Poll, we've got something very special to brighten your New Year. Contributor Nicholas Godfrey has a tremendous interview with Kent Jones, the incredibly talented critic, programmer, editor and filmmaker. And then we follow that with Mark's interview with Oscar winning animator Adam Elliot, whose career has stretched from his early stop-motion film Uncle, through to his acclaimed feature Mary and Max. Enjoy these interviews with two incredibly talented artists, and we'll be back with the World Poll edition of the podcast in February.

In the Christmas edition of the Senses of Cinema podcast, Eloise and Mark are joined by the marvelous Cesar Albarran Torres to talk about Alfonso Cuaron's incredible new film Roma, which has released in cinemas, and now appears streaming on Netflix. Then we discuss the state of Latin Cinema with the upcoming dossier edited by Cesar that drops with the latest issue of the journal. Then we figure out who impressed us the most this year, as we each identify the film talent that really announced themselves in 2018. We end as always on our recommendations, and for those who have signed up to our Patreon account, we're looking at the people we lost in 2018 whose passing made the film world a little less bright.

In the October podcast we're doing (almost) all things A Star is Born. We are joined by friend of the podcast Craig Martin as we dive into the new Lady Gaga/Bradley Cooper version of this classic film. Then we go back in time and look at the previous entries in the A Star is Born canon, and we talk Babs, Judy and Janet and the importance of one last look. Then we change direction and spend some time with the work of Apichatpong Weerasethakul and his love for the blending of the past and present, and his obsession with public aerobics. Then we end with our recommendations for the month of October, 2018. And for our patrons, and in honour of Halloween, we talk our favourite scary movies. Listen and subscribe!!

In the Senses of Cinema podcast for September 2018, along with our special guest Jessica Balanzategui, we take a look at Paul Feig's latest film A Simple Favour, and then turn our attention to Carl Dreyer's incredible experimental horror film Vampyr from 1932. And then, leading into a tremendous season at the Melbourne Cinemateque, we talk about the career of Ida Lupino, and discuss some of her greatest films, including The Hitch-Hiker, The Bigamist and Outrage. And for our bonus segment exclusively for patrons of the podcast, we return to the career of Paul Feig and look at his success with actors such as Melissa McCarthy and Rose Byrne.

In the August edition of the Senses of Cinema podcast, Eloise returns from her travels and friend of the pod Stuey Richards returns as our 3rd chair. We talk Spike Lee's provocative BlacKkKlansman, launch into an analysis of a recent survey identifying the 25 best Australian films of the 21st Century, and Eloise fills us in on the Ritrovato Festival in Bologna. And as always, we end with the best that we've seen in the month of August. This month we take a close look at the Melbourne International Film Festival, and Mark is joined by Artistic Director of MIFF, and fellow Senses editor Michelle Carey along with programmer and writer Tim O'Farrell. We talk through the depth of the incredible MIFF program, and cast a spotlight on two key features: Lynne Ramsay's You Were Never Really Here, and Isabella Eklof's Holiday. We finish up as always with our recommendations for the month of July, and in our bonus for patrons of the podcast, we talk to Michelle about how she came to lead a major international film festival, and what the future holds for her.

For the June edition of the Senses of Cinema podcast, we're joined by academic and franchise aficionado Tara Lomax. We'll be talking about Oceans 8 and the relationship between the film and its predecessors. And to coincide with its revival through the BFI, we return to GW Pabst's classic Pandora's Box. Then we look at the state of the franchise, and discuss superheroes, hunger games and sparkly vampires. And, as always we'll end on the best things we've seen in the month of June.

On the Senses of Cinema podcast Eloise and Mark are joined once again by our brand new editor Cesar Albarran Torres. We're talking the re-imagining of Peter Weir's classic film with Picnic at Hanging Rock the mini-series and then we talk abattoirs, deer and shared dreams in Ildiko Enyedi's On Body and Soul. Finally we celebrate the career of Anne V Coates and we discuss her incredible editing work on films such as Lawrence of Arabia and The Elephant Man. We end as always with our recommendations for the month of May, and for our patron bonus we discuss the Cinema and the Museum dossier published in the March issue of Senses of Cinema.
