Before the MCU, before the modern wave of DC Comics movies, and long before superhero films dominated the box office… there was The Phantom (1996). In this episode of the SuperHero Homies Throwback Series, we revisit the cult comic book movie The Phantom starring Billy Zane and Treat Williams to see if this forgotten superhero film holds up today… or if it belongs deep in the jungle with the Skull Cave. Our Throwback episodes celebrate older movies (usually 25+ years old) with humor, nostalgia, and a fun pop culture discussion. This time, a fan of the show suggested we review The Phantom, and it turned out to be an absolute blast. Even though we don’t think this 90s superhero movie is technically good, it ended up being one of the funniest and most entertaining watches with friends we’ve had in a while. In this episode we discuss: • The full plot breakdown of The Phantom (1996) • The movie’s roots in the classic Phantom comic strip and comic books • Billy Zane’s performance as the legendary purple-suited hero • Treat Williams’ over-the-top villain energy • The action scenes, adventure tone, and jungle setting • The unintentionally hilarious dialogue • Why the cinematography and action choreography feel so dated • The strange charm that makes this movie oddly enjoyable • Our favorite ridiculous and memorable moments Even with its awkward dialogue, lackluster plot, stiff action scenes, and questionable filmmaking choices, The Phantom somehow manages to deliver a weirdly charming comic book adventure that’s perfect for a group watch with friends. But before we jump into this 90s superhero time capsule… Cold Open Topics Include: • Our thoughts on the new Lanterns TV series trailer • Our favorite moments from DC Comics’ Doomsday Clock storyline • The infamous Ace Ventura rhino prop being put up for sale • The recent bizarre Jim Carrey controversy circulating online If you enjoy: Superhero podcasts Comic book discussions Throwback movie reviews Pop culture debates Nerd culture analysis MCU & DC commentary Retro comic book movies “So bad it’s good” movie discussions …then you’ll feel right at home with the SuperHero Homies. In this episode of SuperHero Homies!, we rank every live-action Star Wars movie and TV series released under Disney from worst to best. That means all 13 projects — including The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker, Rogue One, Solo, The Mandalorian, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, The Acolyte, and Skeleton Crew — enter the arena. Yes, even Skeleton Crew gets its day in court. Is Andor still the prestige king of Disney Star Wars? Did The Mandalorian redefine the franchise? Has time been kind to the Sequel Trilogy? Where does Ahsoka land? And does Skeleton Crew surprise us or drift into hyperspace obscurity? We debate, we defend, and we reshuffle the galaxy one ranking at a time. Before we jump to hyperspace, our cold open dives into the latest rumors surrounding Spider-Man: Brand New Day, including possible appearances from Tombstone, Jean Grey, and Man-Spider. We also theorize about the X-Men’s potential role in Avengers: Doomsday and what incursions could mean for the MCU moving forward. If you love Star Wars rankings, MCU theories, Marvel and DC discussions, comic book commentary, superhero movie reviews, and pop culture debates, this episode is built for you. Whether you’re loyal to the light side, flirting with the dark side, or just here for the chaos, we’ve got you covered. The SuperHero Homies! Podcast returns with a packed episode featuring a full spoiler review of Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man TV series, plus a major conversation about the future of fantasy adaptations in Hollywood. We kick things off with a cold open breaking down the groundbreaking deal between Brandon Sanderson and Apple, and what it could mean for the live action Cosmere universe. We discuss potential Mistborn movies, a Stormlight Archive TV series, fan casting ideas, Sanderson’s creative control over his IP, and why this partnership has fantasy and sci-fi fans excited. For our main discussion, we dive deep into Wonder Man, Marvel’s latest Disney+ series. Instead of following a traditional superhero formula, Wonder Man leans into a character study and buddy comedy, focusing on tone, relationships, and self-discovery rather than massive world-ending stakes. We discuss why many viewers seem to love the show, including one of the hosts, while also examining where it falls short. One of us thinks the series feels low stakes and meandering at times, while both of us agree that Wonder Man still represents a refreshing creative swing for the MCU. If you enjoy MCU TV reviews, Marvel Disney+ discussions, comic book adaptations, superhero podcasts, and pop culture breakdowns, this episode is for you. The SuperHero Homies! Podcast is back with a deep dive into one of the most beloved topics in pop culture: the best twists and reveals in fiction. We start the episode with a cold open discussing Batman: Brave & the Bold, sharing our concerns about the upcoming DC movie. We break down Andy Muschietti’s involvement as director following The Flash (2023), Christina Hodson’s role as lead writer, and what their track records could mean for the future of Batman in the DCU. We also touch on Kathleen Kennedy’s repositioning at Lucasfilm and what that could signal for Star Wars moving forward. For the main discussion, we explore our favorite plot twists and shocking reveals across movies, TV shows, comic books, and video games, analyzing why they worked and why they still resonate with fans today. From M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable, to Darth Vader’s iconic reveal to Luke Skywalker, to Omni-Man’s jaw-dropping betrayal in Invincible, we celebrate the moments that redefined their stories and genres. We also break down what makes a great twist or reveal, including setup, character motivation, and payoff, while calling out examples of bad twists that felt unearned, confusing, or purely for shock value. If you’re a fan of superhero stories, comic book discussions, MCU and DC debates, Star Wars, pop culture analysis, and spoiler-filled breakdowns, this episode is for you.

Whether you're a longtime Stranger Things fan, a TV/movie lover, or a pop-culture junkie—this is the episode for you. But first, in our cold open we dive into:
Welcome back to SuperHero Homies! In this episode, we launch the ULTIMATE Superhero Actor Tournament — a 16-actor bracket showdown to decide who is the greatest superhero actor of all time. From Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine to Chris Evans’ Captain America, Heath Ledger’s Joker, Christopher Reeve’s Superman, and more, we break down iconic performances, legendary moments, and why each actor deserves (or doesn’t deserve) to advance. But first… we kick things off with a fun cold open, where we briefly discuss Wicked For Good (no spoilers), and then dive into three major video games: Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, and Expedition 33. We cover the pros, cons, gameplay, storytelling, and whether they live up to the hype. Then it’s on to the main event:
Welcome back to the SuperHero Homies Podcast — and today we present something truly special: The Homie Commandments! In this episode we break down the 10 foundational rules we use to judge, analyze, and appreciate storytelling across comic books, superhero movies, TV shows, novels, and all forms of pop culture media. These commandments aren’t about being “gatekeepers” or claiming authority — they simply reveal the metric we use to measure good storytelling, from Marvel and DC stories to indie comics and blockbuster superhero films. But before we get into our storytelling philosophy, we open the episode with a fun discussion about the Video Game Awards and their 2024 nominations. We talk about the unprecedented number of nominations for Expedition 33, what games might win Game of the Year, and how this year compares to past VGAs. Then we dive into The Homie Commandments, including:
The SuperHero Homies are back — and this week, we’re doing what Hollywood couldn’t: fixing bad superhero movies! From Superman Returns to X-Men: Dark Phoenix and Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, we take on some of the most disappointing comic book films ever made and reimagine them with just a few smart changes. But first, we kick things off with a 30-minute cold open packed with gaming and pop culture talk! We discuss which games might win Video Game of the Year (with Expedition 33 as a top contender), why live service games usually fail, and whether politics belong in art and entertainment. We dive deep into how storytelling, messaging, and creative freedom shape the worlds we love — from comics to cinema. Then it’s time to fix some bad superhero movies — with three simple rules: 1️⃣ The movie must stay in its cinematic universe timeline (no reshuffling releases). 2️⃣ You can’t remove actors, directors, or characters — but you can add new ones. 3️⃣ The core premise must stay the same — no total reboots. With those limits in place, we prove that even within Hollywood’s restrictions, these movies could’ve been way better. We share how we’d improve character arcs, pacing, tone, and storytelling in Superman Returns, X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga, Spider-Man 3, and more!
The SuperHero Homies are back to break down Gen V Season 2 — Amazon Prime’s hit The Boys spin-off that’s full of blood, satire, and super-powered chaos! In this episode, we review the final four episodes of Gen V and discuss how the season connects to The Boys Season 5 and the larger Vought universe. Before diving into the main discussion, we open with a 30-minute cold open covering all things pop culture and comics! We start with Absolute Batman Annual #1, where Batman beats up Nazis and white supremacists — which only makes us love this run even more. We also share our thoughts on new releases like Weapons, Bring Her Back, Welcome to Derry, and House Full of Dynamite. Plus, we talk about the upcoming Outer Worlds 2 video game and why Swamp Thing is the perfect gothic horror comic to revisit this Halloween season. Once we dive into Gen V, we discuss everything from standout characters like Cipher (aka Godolkin) and Polarity, to the show’s deeper flaws — including its increasing reliance on tired superhero tropes and tone-deaf storytelling. We explore the highs, lows, and missed potential of this season while predicting what might come next in The Boys Season 5.
The SuperHero Homies are diving deep into DC’s Doomsday Clock, the ambitious pseudo-sequel to Watchmen written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by Gary Frank. This 12-issue DC Comics epic brings together two of the most iconic worlds in comic history — Watchmen and the DC Universe — as Superman and Doctor Manhattan finally collide in one of the most fascinating superhero stories ever told. In this spoiler-filled Doomsday Clock review, we break down the major events, character arcs, and themes of this story. We discuss how the book pays homage to Alan Moore’s Watchmen while carving out its own identity within the modern DC mythos. We also analyze the deeper meaning behind the Superman and Dr. Manhattan dynamic, the artwork’s incredible attention to detail, and why this story feels like a fitting continuation to one of the most legendary comics ever made. Before diving into the review, we kick things off with a cold open covering the potential WB Discovery buyout, what it could mean for James Gunn’s DCU, and the new Xbox console announcement (and Game Pass controversy).
The SuperHero Homies are back with our full review of the Peacemaker Season 2 Finale, titled “Full Nelson.” In this spoiler-filled discussion, we break down everything from the episode’s emotional moments to its uneven storytelling. After a season filled with short runtimes, filler episodes, and a shaky narrative, the finale unfortunately doesn’t stick the landing. We discuss how Peacemaker Season 2 struggles to capture the magic of Season 1, but still manages to deliver laugh-out-loud humor, heartfelt character beats, and surprising emotional depth. From John Cena’s performance to the show’s wild tone, we analyze what worked — and what absolutely didn’t — in the DCU’s most unpredictable series. Despite our disappointment, we give credit where it’s due and talk about how Peacemaker can still find redemption if renewed for a third season.
In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we dive into the brand-new MCU series, Marvel Zombies! After years of anticipation, Marvel finally delivers its gory, post-apocalyptic zombie universe — but does it live up to the hype? We start this episode with a fun cold open where Homie Caleb shares details about his trip to Universal’s Epic Universe! From Mario World to How to Train Your Dragon, Universal Monsters, and the new Harry Potter-themed section, Caleb gives a full breakdown of rides, attractions, and park details. Afterward, we briefly discuss upcoming comic book reviews like Absolute Batman #1–6 and Doomsday Clock. Then at the 40-minute mark, we dig deep into Marvel Zombies! We cover everything from its brutal action and creative character use to the plot holes and rushed pacing that hold it back. While the show has issues, it’s still a fun, bloody ride for Marvel fans who love the darker side of the MCU.
