Description

Hosted by skeptic-at-heart Eric Huffman of The Story Church, Maybe God tackles the toughest topics related to faith - from doubts of Biblical proportions, sexuality, near-death experiences, shame, and so much more. Eric invites best-selling authors, psychiatrists, scientists, renowned Christian apologists, artists, atheists, and ordinary people in extraordinary situations to address the questions we all have about life, meaning, and the purpose for our existence. Through powerful storytelling and real vulnerability, he pushes as hard against religion as he does against secularism in search of the only thing that matters: truth.

Do you value happiness above joy? Are you stuck in a season that's left you feeling ungrateful? On this minisode, Maybe God host and Story Houston pastor Eric Huffman reveals the power of chasing joy over happiness. The message he delivers to a room full of Houstonians during the busy holiday season applies to every one of us, any time of year.
Evolution is real and creation is a myth, or so we've been told. But how can we be sure? Most of us haven't examined the evidence; we trust the experts to bring the truth down from the mountaintop of scientific knowledge. In this Maybe God Live episode, Dr. James Tour, a world-renowned organic chemist, shares the reasons why he puts his professional reputation on the line by rejecting Darwinian theory as the explanation for life as we know it.
How do you forgive someone who doesn't feel sorry - especially when they're no longer in your life? Deana's father abandoned her at a young age, and the pain and resentment in her heart led her down some dark paths. She knows she needs to forgive him - but how? On this Maybe God mini-sode, Eric and Deana sit down for a raw and intimate one-on-one conversation about forgiving someone who doesn't deserve it.
On the last two episodes of Maybe God, we were introduced to a supernatural, spiritual world, through the eyes of three people who had near-death experiences. But some people don’t have to die and come back to life to experience the other side. Jonas Elrod, whose story has been featured by Oprah Winfrey, claims to experience both the physical and spiritual worlds on a daily basis. From his experience, he's determined one key truth we're all missing when we focus on the material world.
In this minisode, Maybe God host Eric Huffman and producer Julie Mirlicourtois look back at their favorite moments from season one and give listeners a special preview of season two.  Look out for new episodes starting this June.

Those who argue in favor of the death penalty often emphasize capital punishment as a means of justice for victims and their families. But what if those impacted by the crimes in question desire a different kind of justice? Rev. Sharon Risher, daughter of one of the nine churchgoers slain in the 2015 hate crime at Emanuel AME Church, is one of those people. In part one of this series, we hear Sharon’s reasons for forgiving her mother’s killer, even though he’s shown no remorse for his heinous crime. We also hear from Christian anti-death penalty activist Shane Claiborne, who offers a theological exploration of redemption.   Want to share your thoughts? Together, Annie and Thomas are rescuing children from poverty, slavery, and trafficking, begging the question: why does God love to call seemingly insignificant people to accomplish the most significant things?      Learn more about Many Hopes: https://manyhopes.org/   Watch Maybe God interviews: youtube.com/maybegodpodcast   Donate to future episodes: www.maybegodpod.com/donate    Sign up for our weekly newsletter with exclusive content: www.maybegodpod.com    Follow Maybe God: https://instagram.com/maybegodpod https://facebook.com/maybegodpod
Randy Travis overcame all odds to become a country music legend, but few people know the whole story. After surviving an abusive childhood and struggling to stay sober and out of trouble as a young man, Randy's determined work ethic and signature baritone voice propelled his meteoric rise to superstardom. In the years that followed, however, his life slowly fell apart, and in 2013, he suffered a stroke that took away his ability to speak, sing, and walk. In this 2020 episode, we ask Randy and Mary Travis how it's possible to keep trusting God when your life feels like a country music song.    Watch this interview: youtube.com/maybegodpodcast   Support future episodes (now accepting tax-deductible stock and crypto gifts): www.maybegodpod.com/donate    Sign up for our weekly newsletter with exclusive content: www.maybegodpod.com    Follow Maybe God on Instagram and Facebook: @maybegodpod

What started as an 18 month experiment became a 20 plus year journey raising their Christian family in an unpredictable region and learning how to share the Gospel in Muslim-majority communities. Having suffered childhood sexual abuse at the hands of a family member, 13-year-old Vesper Stamper was hungry for a sense of control. An answer was seemingly found in wicca, transcendental meditation, and other occult practices; but after her first experience of astral projection, Vesper became plagued by a dark spiritual oppression that only conversion and exorcism could lift. Decades later, the celebrated author and illustrator reflects upon the suffering that led to her experimentation, as well as the pain that has persisted years into her Christian walk. For the very first time, Vesper publicly discusses her recent health diagnosis, the despair she’s battled in the wake of the October 7th attacks, and the surprising companion she’s found in Christ.   Vesper’s illustrations, books, and podcast: https://www.vesperillustration.com/    Watch this interview: youtube.com/maybegodpodcast   Support future episodes (now accepting tax-deductible stock and crypto gifts): www.maybegodpod.com/donate    Sign up for our weekly newsletter with exclusive content: www.maybegodpod.com    Follow Maybe God on Instagram and Facebook: @maybegodpod
