Soul Damn Funky went on the back burner for about a year until Russell decided to bring it back in the form or a radio show, DJ collective, an online music network and more recently a compilation album. April 2012 and the H Bar in Hove became the new home for Soul Damn Funky parties, every event was a massive success, since starting out in 2010 we've had some of the biggest names in house grace the decks at our nights including: DJ Romain, Paul Trouble Anderson, CJ Mackintosh, Sarah Favouritizm and Victor Simonelli. So its time to add another name to the wall of Soul Damn Funky fame and welcome Richard Earnshaw into the booth. Over the last 10 years, Richard has been nothing short or prolific when it comes to output, having remixed and produced for many labels including Duffnote, Guess, One51, Defected, Soulfuric, King St, Swing City, Large, BMG, Ministry of Sound, Hed Kandi, Purple Music, Morehouse, Peppermint Jam to name but a few. And for the first time at one of our events we have live music from six piece funk & soul band… THE REAL DECOYS The Real Decoys are a 5 piece high energy band based in Brighton playing a repertoire of timeless funk, soul, rare groove and disco...The band is made up of a group of very talented experienced and professional musicians who combine a sense of style, sophistication, and charisma with spontaneity, fun and panache. Collectively they have performed with Odyssey, Level 42, Roy Ayres, Incognito, The Brand New Heavies, Marlena Shaw, Gary Moore and Womak and Womak. Just two weeks into the new year and I've already recorded a mix! Saying that I was unable to as promised over Christmas as I was ill for the duration, but I'm back on track now and I've put together quite an eclectic mixture of house sounds, old with the new, deep, slightly techy in places, jazzy and just a few vocals which makes a change for me. 1) Glenn Underground – Afro Gente 2) BLVD East – Mototronic 3) Romanthony – Let Me Show You Love 4) Danny Howells – Psychotic Bump 5) Richard Earnshaw Ft: Natasha Watts – Won't Let Go (Groove Junkies Deep Touch Dub) 6) Camouflage – Enjoy 7) Marco Plex – Future Music 8) Colonel Abrams - Not Gonna Let (Victor Simonelli Remix) - Taken from Soul Damn Funky presents New York Classics Vol 1 9) Shane Linehan – Do You Know Who You Are 10)The Black Madonna – Alright This Morning Keep up to date with all my movement's by joining my page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/djrussellruckman
On this weeks show Soul Damn Funky's new recruit Steven James takes the controls to give you two blissful hours of house music old and new. Starting off in the late 80's then working his way through the years he played a wicked selection of eclectic house sounds. The Soul Damn Funky Show is on Code South in Brighton on 88.8fm Saturday mornings 10am till 12pm GMT, you can also hear it online: www.codesouth.fm or on your mobile through the TuneIn Radio app. if you want to keep up to date with our movements like us on Facebook... http://www.facebook.com/souldamnfunky
Another one of those mixes that got lost on the hardrive, but not quite as long as others. I rarely repeat tracks on my mixes but you might hear one or two from other mixes recorded earlier in the year. I'm always getting requests from followers to put out more mixes and its my aim to be more frequent in putting out podcasts in the new year but don't forget I present the Soul Damn Funky show on Code South FM on Saturdays 10am till 12pm GMT, check out my Facebook & Twitter for more details on that. I've got some free time from the 21st December so will try and get one or two new mixes out there before the new year and while I'm on the subject of New Year this NYE I'll be playing at Paul Trouble Andersons night "The Loft" at Bar Vinyl in Camden. Have a great Christmas and NY Russell.
Well it has been 4 months since my last post, so I thought I should put another mix on here. I made this last summer just for myself. I wanted to play some seriously deep and somewhat overlooked songs. Concurrently, I had read a great comment from one of my heroes Dj Deep which really resonated with me: “I always had a non-dj approach of djing, in the sense that when playing i am not focussing on making the floor go crazy or focussing on the idea of always keeping the energy level up up up! But i am very passionate about sharing with the crowd what i think are the dopest records of the moment or the dopest classics. In that sense i’m not pretending to be “right” or “wrong” and i will not make 100% of everybody happy, but i feel that my duty is to inform people of what’s really hot, would it be timeless classics or brand new records.” So here is my very personal selection that presents some of the dopest underground tracks around at that time! Download WAV From: http://www.workittough.wordpress.com We danced with rhythm, we raised our hands as if to say the Holy Ghost was on that track! Run it back Mr DJ, Mr Humphries, Mr Johnson, Mr Camacho… Hope you like it. Roy Rogers.

An absolute classic mix from Trouble, this was first broadcasted back in August 1996, I ripped this from my original tape so I can upload and share this amazing piece of house music history with our Soul Damn Funky podcast subscribers.
What with pride in Brighton being such a massive event for everyone in the city Soul Damn Funky decided to get involved and put out a mix to celebrate the biggest party weekend of the year. The mix starts of with some brand new soulful house hot from the press, then stepping it up to some bumpy jackin beats, funky disco house and driving house sounds plus a few classics thrown in for good measure. Whether your getting ready to go out or just got home from a night of clubbing, going for a run or a sesh at the gym this mix is the perfect sound track for it. This seams to be one of Russell Ruckman's most popular mixes and for something he just threw together on the fly he's not doing bad with over 160,000 hits on Youtube alone! 1) Vasquez & Cruz - Who You Wanna Be 2) DJ Spen Presents: Damond Ramsey - Feel The Heat 3) Deep City Soul Ft: Jacqui Ge - We All Fall Down (Classic Vocal Mix) 4) Pure Orange - Feels So Good (Original Club Vocal Mix) 5) Scott Diaz - Lift It Higher 6) Indo - R U Sleeping (Original Chicago Mix) 7) Bo Moore Ft: Kavon Brown - Love, Joy and Happiness (Tony V's Woo Dub) 8) Franky Fresh - Adriana's Sax (Original Mix) 9) Joey Negro Ft: Shea Soul - No Sugar (London Bump Mix) 10) Bryan Jones & Scud Bloom - Down Like That 11) Cause & Affect - Pushy Pushy (Original Mix) 12) Jeremy Sylvester - Brasil (Original Mix) 13) Sly - Memoirs Of 95 14) Andy Holder Presents: UK Underground - Dancehall Funk 15) Norty Cotto Vs Serious Intention - You Dont Know (Norty Cotto Funk Club Mix) 16) Chris Malinchak - Beije Me (Original Mix) 17) Oji & Una - We Lift Our Hands In The Sanctuary (95 North Classic Remix Vocal) 18) Richard Earnshaw - People Are People (Dub Mix) 19) Mustafa Ft: Tasita D'Mour - The Boss (Soulful Vocal Mix)
