Description
A place to talk shit about topics that interest us. The podcast consists of Alice – a Digital Designer, 3 years out of uni. Along with Adam – a soon to be Marketer, with 3 subjects left in his Marketing Degree. It's basically the best 'non-marketing' marketing podcast around.

This week Alice goes rogue and decides to record an entire podcast while driving around and testing our new lapel microphone. This does cause a slight issue for background noise but overall we think it’s worth a listen. She talks through her experience as both an agency / studio designer in contrast to her experience as an in-house designer.
Today's episode is a little all over the place. But surely you've come to expect that from us by now. Alice is apparently still concussed from the brawl she had at the shops last episode and she won't let you forget it throughout the show.
We discuss the ways customer management has evolved from a brand perspective and if this evolution has anything to do with the level of service we expect today. Alice plugs the social enterprise she has founded, Brush It On, and Adam gives the world's worst outro...
Alice went out to get some milk from the shop and never returned so it's just Adam rambling to himself in today's episode. Will the new format work? Will Alice ever return? Is this the end of the Basic AF podcast? Tune in to find out
This week we have some ‘heated’ chats about the recent bag ban. Followed closely by some strategies that might be implementable for the plastic straw ban, that’s likely to come in the not so distant future.
This week we have some basic AF chats about self-awareness as humans, as well as brand self-awareness as brands. Topical stuff. We share some truths and Alice figures out she’s not quite as self-aware as she thought.
This week we have a special guest and possibly our only listener – Hilary on the podcast! We chat about shock tactic awareness campaigns that we’ve seen recently or in the past 10 years and discuss the possible reasoning behind these sometimes insanely intense shock tactics. Do they work? Do they hinder? You’ll have to listen to find out (about our opinions – only ever about our opinions haha).
Did you know that we all have Unconscious Bias? In this episode we have some chats about what it is, why we have it and how it trickles into our everyday lives. We try to keep it relevant to marketing and design, but in true form – we’ve gone on tangents about evolution and other fascinating things.
In this episode we have some chats about multinational holding companies contradicting the brands they own and run. We get into the Dove campaigns and how they became less credible in the public eye once the media picked up on the fact they were owned by the same holding company that owned Lynx – that actively sexualise women in their campaigns. Get into it!
In this episode we have some chats with our first guest – Mikaela – where we talk about online retail and e-commerce and how they changed the game. We also discuss what the Pink Tax is and whether it’s just good business.
In this episode we talk all things Facebook: is it still relevant?; the data breach; Facebook’s bias; other platforms and why they’re working; the history of social media and the future of social media.
In this episode we talk some crap about Sports People as Role Models as the recent Australian Cricket cheating scandal has been a hit topic in the past few weeks. The second topic hopefully complimenting the first: Marketing to Kids. We discuss places this is banned or highly regulated, the possibility of plain packaging kids toys and how this landscape has changed as digital continues to grow.
In this episode we chat about education marketing, mainly focused around online providers. As Adam is currently studying online it was interesting to dive into his experience with online study, compared to what providers are saying they offer in their marketing. We then follow that up by chatting about Influencers and Alice’s recent experience using Micro Influencers for a campaign.
We start this episode with an intro Ted Talk – Dan Pallotta: The way we think about charities is dead wrong. This leads us into chatting about Adam's experience working as a consultant for a kids charity as a door to door salesman and what we understand Social Enterprises to be and why they are important for our future. Followed by our second topic – Greenwashing. Alice educated Adam on what greenwashing is and some examples of it happening in the recent years. WARNING: Alice was sick when we recorded this so she was more bitchy and monotone than usual. Listen at your own risk.
Disclaimer: Do not start at this episode if this is your first time listening. Don't do it! Or do. We don't make the rules, but you have been warned. It's alright but not great. The show get's exponentially better from episode 2 onwards. Do yourself a favour and come back to this one later.
Anyway, in this episode, we introduce the podcast and what we hope it will be. We then have some chats about the Doritos ‘Ladies’ chip and the recent Suncorp re-brand.
