Timestamps: (01:00) To begin with, please could you introduce yourself to our listeners? (01:38) What are some of the main challenges your clients are facing at the moment? (02:58) Can you explain what we mean by the term emotional intelligence? (03:37) Why do you think it's become more important for leaders to be emotionally intelligent? (04:25) What are the benefits that the emotional intelligence of a leader can have, not just for them but on the team and ultimately the wider organisation? (05:56) What do you think are some of the tell-tale signs that people can use to spot when they're working with an emotionally intelligent leader? (09:05) It's an interesting model you've just talked us through there and the first element you mentioned was self-awareness. Just how important is it for leaders to recognise their own emotions, perhaps when they're excited or frustrated, and the impact this can have on their teams? (10:40) I know that our listeners in this podcast are leading teams, departments, and entire organisations. Do you have any tips that you can share on how these leaders can develop and improve their self-awareness? (12:37) What can leaders do to improve their ability to self-regulate? (13:58) And I’d imagine that this self-regulation and accountability, will also help leaders to develop trust within their teams? (14:40) How can leaders understand their own teams drive to succeed? And why does it matter to identify this? (16:03) When you are in a leadership role and you do want to bring your team along with you, or role model your own motivation and commitment to an organisation's ambitions, how do you go about doing that? How do you bring people with you? (17:05) I wanted to talk about empathy which I’ve thought about in terms of my personal relationships and charitable giving, but it's also the fourth competency in the model you mentioned. What can leaders do and what should they be doing to demonstrate empathy towards their teams? (21:03) The final competency that you mentioned was social skills. Just how important is both verbal communication and body language in emotional intelligence when leaders are communicating with their team, whether that's delivering a new policy or in the day-to-day interactions that they have? (23:46) Is there anything else that leaders can do or skills that they need to possess outside of what we've already discussed, to help them develop and grow their emotional intelligence? (25:06) I'd like to finish with a question that we ask all our podcast guests. Outside of emotional intelligence, what do you think are the three qualities that make a good leader? And crucially, do you think these qualities have changed because of the pandemic?

(13:33) How important is it for leaders to role model these behaviours to support and build resilience in their teams? And do you have any advice that you can share to help our listeners do this more effectively? (15:00) On this theme of breaking ideas or notions that there is such a thing as a perfect leader and how leaders should be more vulnerable, do you think it can be beneficial for leaders to let their teams experience failure, to make them more resilient? And if so, how can our listeners support their teams in embracing failure and learning from their mistakes? (17:12) What do you think are the three qualities that make a good leader? (07:07) How exactly do you think shifts in employee self-confidence will become more significant in the future world of work? (09:44) What are some of the key signs and behaviours for leaders to look out for, which can signal that a member of their team has high self-confidence? (11:13) Is there a fine line between confidence and overconfidence in the workplace? (12:22) How can a leader identify whether a member of their team is lacking or struggling with their self-confidence? (14:09) Are there any common behaviours, habits, or even language that you see from leaders, which may be negatively impacting the self-confidence of their teams, maybe without them even realising it? (17:10) How important is feeling that you are learning and progressing to self-confidence? What role can leaders play in facilitating that and helping their people develop a growth mindset? (02:55) Please could you explain what we mean by adaptability? And could you perhaps give us some examples of adaptability in action within the world of work? (06:02)Now you've just touched on this, but do you think that the need for adaptability in workforces has increased specifically since the COVID-19 pandemic began and will this trend continue to increase in the new era of work? (08:07) With organisations continuing to invest in new technologies since the pandemic began, I'd imagine this has also impacted the need for adaptable skills in their people too. (11:29) Now we've discussed the importance of workplace adaptability, but how can organisations go about creating a workplace culture that enables their employees to become more adaptable? (16:14) Following on from that, which skills should leaders be supporting their employees to develop, to ensure that their organisation is able to adapt in this new era of what? (18:48) And how can leader’s role model adaptability themselves in order to incentivise their teams to adapt too? (21:48) Do you think organisations need to take a personalised approach to building adaptability in their workforces? And if so, how can they go about doing this? (24:23) What are the benefits to this tailored approach to adaptability? (26:07) How important do you think it is for business leaders to effectively share a vision or long-term strategic direction of the organisation for employees to better understand the importance of adaptability? (28:23) Now, on the other hand, how important is it for business leaders to listen to new ideas from their teams, if they are to successfully adapt to forthcoming changes? (33:12) And how can this be done effectively if leaders are managing hybrid teams where their employees are divided between the office and remote working on a part-time and a full-time basis as is quite common in this pandemic world? (34:48) And how should leaders go about addressing any suggestions for change? (38:28) Now, how important is it for business leaders to push their teams out of their comfort zone and take risks to drive adaptability? Could it be beneficial in the long-term to let their teams experience failure to achieve this do you think? (41:23) I'd like to finish with a question that we ask all of our guests. In this very uncertain environment that we're all experiencing right now. What do you think are the three qualities that make a good leader? And do you think that these qualities have changed because of the pandemic?
23: How leaders can go from ‘burnout busy’ to ‘balance busy’ - Rosalyn Palmer In this podcast, Transformational Wellbeing Coach, Rosalyn Palmer, shares her expert advice to help those leaders who are feeling burned out, establish some balance in their busy working lives. (02:20) Why is burnout a topic you're particularly passionate about? (04:44) Could you define what we mean by the term burnout and maybe expand upon the common signs that someone may be burnt out? (09:08) Do you think that for some being busy is almost a badge of honour? That if they're seen to be busy, then they will automatically be seen as valuable, and do you think that this might be even truer as we've progressed through the pandemic? (11:52) So how can leaders establish a balanced level of busy-ness? (13:06) And do you think that effective delegation is a key part of this? (14:54) Now, do you think imposter syndrome is playing a part in some leaders feeling that they need to be seen to be busy in order to prove their value to themselves and to others. And how might this be contributing to burnout? (20:16) We've already discussed how busy these times are for business leaders. So, how can they take time out of their schedules to look after their mental health? And why do you think this is important? (23:44) Now on the topic of mental health, in recent years something I've noticed is that the stigma around talking about mental health seems to be decreasing. How can leaders display vulnerability and open up to their team members if they are feeling burnt out or too busy. And what do you think are the benefits of doing so? (27:44) And what about self-awareness and self-reflection, what would you say are the benefits of these? Do you have any practical tips for our listeners to help them weave this into their daily routines amongst their busy schedules? (31:01) Now, as many of us continue to work remotely or in a hybrid way, some are finding it hard to distinguish between their work and personal lives. How do you think this is fuelling the risk of burnout in leaders in particular? (37:20) What are the signs that leaders can look out for to spot burnout within their teams? Presumably this is far more difficult for leaders to notice in this increasingly remote and hybrid working world. (39:35) And if leaders do recognise these signs of burnout within their teams? How should they go about addressing them? (41:31) And building on this a little more. How can leaders incentivise as well as role model healthy behaviours to ensure that teams are also able to establish a good balance? And do you think this is becoming even more important in this new era of work? (44:44) And what impact will these kinds of behaviours have not only on the wellbeing, but also on the output of teams? (47:31) I have one more question, and this is a question we ask all our podcast guests, what do you think are the three qualities that make a good leader? And do you think these qualities have changed since the beginning of the pandemic?

Stacey, if we could begin with you, that would be great. (01:57) And Simon, how about you? Could you let us know a little bit about your background and your current role? (02:47) Do you think that customer expectations and behaviours have changed fundamentally for good because of the pandemic, and how is this impacting marketing functions?
