(sorry guys for the comment spamming, but it's an interesting topic). The problem with the question of consciousness is that we're comparing AI consciousness to the only type of consciousness that we know: human consciousness. Chances are that AI consciousness would develops into something completely different. So I find a lot of the premise for this type of discussion invalid because we're looking at a new out of the box problem with an old mindset.

Also, it's too early to think about giving rights to an AI. And... would they even want rights?

Also.... this might scare some a bit... but we're at a point in machine learning that a machine that sometimes would do something that even the programmer doesn't understand, because they're are no longer programming "rules" into a machine, they're programming the computer how to learn on it's own (I'm oversimplying it, but that's the gist of it.) ALSO for the topic of unemployment, as we're approaching an age where more robots are bing implemented, something called basic income is being discussed (where everyone gets a minimum income because robots are producing the necessities for us, again, I'm oversimplying it, but I encourage you to youtube it). AND NOBODY JUST SWITCHES ON SKYNET. They don't just build a huge thing and then flip it on, things gets tested bit by bit. (I'm typing as I listen to the podcast so I can't finish any of the discussion points before I want to jump to another point.) Still a fan, love you guys, keep up the good work.
