Stephanie Everett hadn’t tried a case in 10 years. Then her housekeeper got hit with a frivolous dog bite suit, so Stephanie used AI to get up to speed on Georgia dog bite law and won.
Recording live at 8am’s Kaleidoscope conference in Las Vegas, Gyi and Stephanie talk about what lawyers can learn from the Savannah Bananas about building raving fans. They also cover why you should ask for testimonials early, and why the billable hour keeps leaving money on the table. Stephanie explains why small firms have the edge on AI, why she wouldn’t sign a three-year AI contract right now, and why calling your firm “AI-enabled” might turn off the clients you want. And yes, AI fatigue is real.
The News:
8am Kaleidoscope – Gyi and Stephanie recorded live from the conference in Las Vegas.
The Savannah Bananas – Jesse Cole’s keynote on removing friction and building raving fans set the tone for the whole conversation.
Maddy Martin, Smith.ai – Maddy’s take on hybrid AI-plus-human intake, and why callers should be able to opt out of AI.
Pew Research: Young adults in the U.S. are increasingly wary of AI – Gyi points to research showing AI isn’t popular, especially with younger people.
Be a Next Level Leader: The Four Cornerstones of Law Firm Leadership – Stephanie’s new book with Debbie Foster.

Conference season is here, and Gyi and Conrad are hitting the road. Before they head to the last ever Great Legal Marketing Summit, they’re replaying one of their favorite interviews, recorded at last year’s event with Dr. Cain Elliott of Filevine.
Cain runs Filevine’s skunkworks team. His job is to build things three to five years ahead of their time and watch most of them fail. He’s also a former philosophy professor, so when he explains how AI actually works, he does it with a hamburger. Cain and the guys get into why AI hallucinations are more human than you’d think and what separates a closed system from dumping files into ChatGPT. They also cover why you can’t talk an LLM into recommending your firm, and whether we’re in an AI bubble.
The News:
Google is poisoning the results it serves to rank trackers, according to new research from Nozzle. Add it to the pile of reasons to stop obsessing over rankings. And if your vendor sells you an “AI visibility score,” ask how they’re accounting for it.
Remember those AI-generated Google Business Profiles from the Alexander Shunnarah episode? They’re gone. Catch up here: Fake Listings, AI Reviews… Where the Hell Is Google?

Gyi and Cain dig into the Vals AI Legal Research Report, where AI beat the lawyers. Cain’s take: legal research is tricky, and benchmarks don’t tell the whole story.

Gyi and Conrad have seen their fair share of scummy actors online, and they have both experienced targeted attacks on their Google Business Profiles. What’s a business owner to do?
-----
Vandalism, libel, fake reviews… yikes. In today’s online business arena, competitors sometimes stoop pretty low to try to undermine your reputation. If you find yourself in the midst of just such a difficulty, there are legal frameworks to help you identify perpetrators and seek restoration for your business. Conrad talks with Daniel Powell, a litigator and leader in the internet defamation field, to discuss the processes of discovering vandals, determining case viability, and tailoring a successful plan of action for your business.
The News:
Pursuant to last week’s episode, the guys give an update on what has come of their exposé on the sketchy doings of the Alexander Shunnarah Law Firm. Here’s the episode: Fake Listings, AI Reviews… Where the Hell Is Google?
Well, Google’s found another way to nickel & dime your business. As of October 1st, Google LSAs are charging for any call (even unanswered ones) that last longer than 20 seconds.
Not sure how much we care, but Google is adding multimodal search data to your Search Console. Might as well take a look.

Gyi and Conrad take a trip into the dirty underbelly of the interwebs, where Google Business Profile spam is alive, well, and somehow racking up five-star reviews.
The template is easy to spot once you know it: a generic listing named "City + Car Accident Lawyer," 10 to 20 five-star reviews written within a few weeks (mostly by people who have never reviewed anything else), AI video testimonials, an AI-built website with no lawyers (and no disclaimers), and a terms page that links back to the homepage. At least there's a link. But call the number, fill out the form, or send a text, and according to what Conrad and a group of fellow marketers pieced together, you land in the intake system of Alexander Shunnarah Trial Attorneys. The pattern has turned up from Alabama to Louisiana to New Jersey.
Just a lead vendor gone rogue? Conrad isn't buying it. The guys also cover how to fight back when this shows up in your backyard, why your state bar probably isn't the answer, and the bigger question hanging over all of it: where is Google?
Gyi and Conrad reached out to Shunnarah's digital marketing director with an invitation to come on the show and respond. That invitation still stands.
The News:
Kate Nachazel is moving on from Fireproof after her run as president. Congrats, Kate! Between her and Dave Thomas leaving Law Tigers, we're holding out hope for a motorcycle-centric PI coaching program.
Business Insider reports that Mark Liu's startup, Arceus, landed $17 million to pair a law firm with contract-review software, part of a new wave of "neo firms." (Conrad thinks that sounds like something you put on a blister.) Gyi's advice: do what the bots can't (nod to Ted DeBettencourt for that oh-so-catchy phrase).
Gyi and Conrad are hitting the road: the final (or is it?) Great Legal Marketing Summit with Ben Glass, the DC Bar Practice 360 conference, the Washington State Bar Solo & Small Conference, the Minnesota Solo and Small Firm Conference, ClioCon in Boston, and LEX Summit in San Diego, where they'll be broadcasting live (and you thought your October was busy).
The Lunch Hour Legal Marketing Summit is headed to Brazos Hall in Austin in 2027. Pronounce it like a Texan. Get your tickets!
