I discuss why it's so important to find the right trainer that understands your body, tight areas, past injuries where you are right now.
Often trainers train clients how they train themselves.
This can be a big problem when your trainer is 22 and you are 52, 62, or even 72.
You want your trainer to find the best ways to help you move and feel better for a lifetime.

How I Maintained My Weight Traveling for 51 Days My Trip Around the Country... Planning and Prepping...When I was 28 years old I took a summer off of teaching and drove clear across the country. This trip lasted 51 days. I started in Los Angeles and drove through the Southwest (mainly Arizona, New Mexico and Texas to Atlanta, up the East coast Virginia Beach, DC, and Philly, across the Midwest, Chicago, Colorado, Utah and back to Los Angeles. What was very difficult was food prepping. I wanted to make sure I didn’t lose any muscle and maintained my healthy weight at the time. I ran into three challenges... First, my weight training routine was very consistent, if I were to take 51 days off of lifting weights I would lose muscle.Secondly, food prepping was going to be very difficult.Third, NO GPS. SMART PHONES DID NOT EXIST AT THE TIME. I used a map to get around the country. If I got lost, I was on my own.I finished the trip at the exact weight I was when I left not gaining any weight or losing any muscle. The secret to my success at doing this was a few things. First I decided I would lift weights as a maintenance phase through this trip. I made sure to go to a gym at least 2 times per week no matter where I was.I also ran some, walked and saw the sights of different towns along the way.Food? How did I manage to not get caught by the many “Fast Food Nation” temptations our country is known for?I did not drink sodas along the trip so I wasn’t addicted to the sugar cravings we all can get from sodas, candy, and sugar found in MOST foods. When I stopped to get lunch I got a burger without fries and without a soda and I added a salad.I drank water instead of soft drinks. What worked for me is I had a PLAN. I had a plan for exercise and I had a plan for eating. In conclusion I would say that maintaining or improving our fitness levels in 2023 is very “doable” if one is determined to make this a priority.Enjoy the Show!Bryan “Maintaining My Weight on Vacation” WisdomP.S. Be different this year…My Secret to My Success Let me share MY secret strategy I used for years when Thanksgiving and the holidays came around. From age 20 to 29 years old I used to play in an annual high school football game every Thanksgiving Day in Manhattan Beach, California where I grew up. All my high school buddies would meet up for this game on our old campus. Friends of mine went to schools all over the country and this was a great time for everyone to get back together. While many of my friends had gained weight from college diets and excessive living. I would secretly train for this game. I would lift weights and do sprints and really get ready for this game months before. The catch 22 with this game was once the game started everyone was going to play really hard and if you weren’t in shape you were going to feel it. I looked at this game every year as a bench mark to train for and look forward to. As the years passed I never gained weight over the holiday season because I was busy training… and I enjoyed Thanksgiving eating like everyone else. The difference was I had burned 1,000 calories in the morning before Thanksgiving. The second part of my secret was I never used Nov, Dec, as an excuse to not train.I found exercise helped me and continues to help me in stressful and busy times. I used the lead up to Thanksgiving as a way to train consistently and once the game took place I just kept training. This holiday season I challenge you to be different. If you are going to take days off. Take only a handful. You’ve got Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. That puts you at 4 actual days to take off. (An added rest day once a week is fine too Sunday) Besides that, I challenge you to keep training this year. We do a Holiday Fit Challenge in December to help you stay on track. Bottom line is you can do great this year by committing and stay focused when others don’t.Bryan “Thanksgiving Football Game Secret” WisdomP.S. If you want help from us reach out at www.FTLKN.com

I Never Saw The Leaves Fall Until I was 30 Years Old I woke up a few weeks ago and for the first time in 2 months the temperature was a bit cooler and the humidity was not present in the air. I grew up in Southern California where the temperature is 65-75 degrees year around. Seasons don’t really exist there… some people say things to me like, “that would be great!” or “don’t you miss the mild weather?” The answer is I don’t. You see I enjoy the changing of the seasons. I’d never seen the leaves fall until I was 30 years old. The change of seasons can be an advantage to us when it comes to your health. The change is an ALERT an attention grabber that things are changing and the body needs to get prepared. As it relates to your health and fitness… Have you been focused over the last season… say the last 3 months? Have you gotten your workouts in? Have you eaten well? Have you been traveling and been too busy to focus on you? Whatever the answer is to these questions the good news is we are going into a change of season and you can take the next 3 months as an opportunity to start fresh and get on track as we go back to school and move out of hot weather/ vacationing. I encourage you to participate in our Nutrition Challenge this September. If you have been off track use this season as a way to get on track. If you have been doing great then keep the momentum going strong. See you in the Challenge, Bryan “Taking Out My Sweatshirts” Wisdom
