In this episode I revisit the USFL and XFL (now called the UFL). The question I ask is "Can the UFL be bigger than the NFL? I think they can, but they need to execute a strategy that focuses on college football fans. The UFL pulls in 900,000 viewers per game compared to the NFL's 17.9M viewers. Beating the NFL is a big challenge, but it is a possible. In this episode, I discuss the International House of Pancakes and offer my strategy for making it more profitable and larger than Starbucks. Imagine a parallel universe where the iHOP founders decided to split the franchise into a smaller "coffee-focused" division while also keeping the flagship iHOP brand. In this episode, review Apple's foray into the electric car market. Prior to launching the iPhone, Steve Jobs considered launching an electric car. Had he launched an electric car in the mid-2000s, I believe that Apple would have dominated the market (just as Tesla is doing now) by 2020. However, if Apple were to launch an electric car today, it would meet competition and regulatory pressures that would make it very difficult to do what they succeeded at doing to the phone market. What should Apple do if they don't pursue the electric car? Check out this episode. In this episode, I provide a potential strategy that Oprah Winfrey could use for her Own Cable Network and generate Billions in shareholder value. On December 22, 2020, Madeline Berg announced that Oprah Winfrey had sold 20.5% of her OWN Cable Network to Discovery for 1.34 million shares. The deal figures suggest that the OWN's value had dropped by 37% since 2017 when Discovery initially purchased a 24.5% stake in the company. Oprah's activity up to and after the sale indicates that she may be exiting the network and focusing more on content creation (which helped her become a billionaire). What could Oprah have done differently? Check out this episode. After George Floyd's death, millions of dollars have been donated to charities and racial justice groups with little discussion as to what we want from those investments. I want to change that dialogue. I want EVERYONE to "BE INTENTIONAL" and create the environment where the outcomes we want can actually happen. What does "BE INTENTIONAL" mean? It means that we stop giving to charity and start putting money in Black-Owned Banks and letting "Fractional Reserve Banking" do for Blacks what it does for other communities. On January 21, 2021, I will be hosting a town hall meeting entitled, “Be Intentional: Turning Good Trouble Into Black Independence.” During this event, we will strategize ways the sons and daughters of the Black Diaspora can generate and demand the Trillions we are owed during this event. In this episode, I interview Tonya Kinlow, the Founder of the Home Food Sharing startup, UGottaEat. According to the EPA, In 2014, we disposed of more than 38 million tons of food waste. Chowhound.com states that “globally, one-third of the food produced for human consumption is lost, about 1.3 billion tons. Consumers in North America and Europe waste about 209 to 253 pounds of food per person every year.” Tonya Kinlow wants to eliminate that waste by giving home cooks and professional chefs a platform to share extra food while also increasing a greater sense of community. We discuss how Mrs. Kinlow built her platform for private caterers, but had to pivot when small Mom & Pop restaurants started using the #UGottaEat platform to market their services. Because Tonya Kinlow is targeting only health meals for the platform, the strategy has created a "Chicken and Egg" dilemma, i.e., how do you get enough chefs and eaters to make the platform scale. Listen to find out how she is solving this problem.Host: Mark Peterson Host Social Media: @guerillapreneur @ceyeroconsltg (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Periscope).
