We’re back from hiatus with a special episode for you all! It’s a holiday weekend, so we’ve decided to celebrate the greatest holiday tradition: getting drunk and rambling for way too long about obscure interests! We brought up the idea of doing a special episode about the Kojiki early on in Terrace Neighbors, and you all* said we should, and now we have! Listen, and know you were responsible for unleashing this content upon the world. There is absolutely no mention of Terrace House, though, but we all know that people just listen to podcasts for the tangents. *like three of you The music sampled in this episode is Omoigawa by Etsuko Chida, kindly provided for free under a CC BY-NC 3.0 US license by SHSK’H LLC. A rectangle of light slices through the darkness as a door opens. Taylor, resting upon a rock at the center of the terrarium, blinks blearily at the intrusion. "It's time," the visitor says, though she can't make out their face. She hisses and skitters into the shadows. "It must be you. You're the one with the libsyn password." The creature backs up until she feels the cool press of the glass. In this perfectly smooth cage, there is nowhere to hide. "Come on, we have two quick announcements to share with the listeners. It'll take like five minutes. It was your idea. Stop being dramatic." With a sigh, the stranger places a single microphone upon the rock. "Also, stop calling your studio apartment a terrarium, it was kind of funny the first time? But then you kept making the same joke over and over and over again. Just... let me know when you get it done, okay?" The door closes, the darkness returns. Blinking her third eyelid, Taylor plugs in the mic.
Content warning: mention of suicide. Both Courtney and Taylor are here for one last announcement. This is the end of Terrace Neighbors. Thank you for your support these past two years. You can continue to find us at @terraceneighbor on Twitter or at terraceneighbors.com. Please take care of yourselves, we love you.
Hey everyone! Long time no see and happy new year! It's been a while, but we're ready to debut our new show: Ticket & Page, a shojo manga bookclub. If you ever enjoyed our tangents about manga, boy have we got good news for you! Hope to see some of you there!
Welcome to the maiden voyage of the Terrace Neighbors podcast! This week, we discuss episodes one and two of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. There are a lot of new faces to learn, names to mess up, and character types to establish, but one thing for sure is clear: we’ve got a crush on everybody. And we mean EVERYBODY. Thanks again to @cutethlulu for our adorable artwork!
Things take a sharp turn for the bummer as we discuss episode three of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Relationships progress, dreams are challenged, and a villain comes to rise, which is a lot darker than we thought our second episode would be. Maybe if we talk about food enough, we’ll feel better.
Listen, every great institution is built on rules. Where would humanity be without them? This week, Courtney and Taylor bring some wisdom to the unwashed masses as we discuss episode four of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. The excitement is finally starting to ramp up, there’s drinking in public, and we go on a tour of Tokyo wildlife that absolutely no one asked for but we are more than happy to provide.
The summer heat has melted our hosts, but thankfully they found someone to scoop them into some tasteful mason jars so they could bring you another episode of Terrace Neighbors. This week, we discuss episode five of Boys & Girls in the City and things are really starting to gain speed. Uchi plays the field, convenience stores are definitively ranked, and Courtney does seafood crime. Take her away, officer.
It’s Uchi Week, and Courtney and Taylor are here to walk you through dating in Tokyo as we discuss episode six of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Yuki tap dances, Taylor talks shonen manga, and the boys in the house continue to be awful. With so many dates this week, who will be crowned Goofus and who will be crowned Gallant? Spoiler alert: they’re both Uchi.
We’re almost two months in and the dating drama continues as we discuss episode seven of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. This week, rivals bump heads, Courtney is pool-thirsty, the girls in the house demonstrate bad taste in boys, and Taylor discovers her new life calling. Love being back in high school.
It’s pool day you guys!!!! Pool day!!! It’s in the title!!!! POOL!!!!!!!!!! This week, we’ve got our swimsuits on and our inner tubes inflated and we’re here to talk about episode eight of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Makoto goes through a rebellious phase, Uchi reaps the fruit of his Uchi labor, and Courtney unravels the greatest bedding mystery of all time. Pun intended.
It’s been a tough race, guys, one with lots of close calls and surprise twists, but the votes are in and it’s time to crown the Best Boy of them all. Will it be Uchi? Will it be Yuki? We know it’s not Makoto. It’s very likely it’s Mizuki! This week, we discuss episode nine of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Courtney teaches us how to make soba, Taylor delivers a soliloquy, we put on our conspiracy theory tin foil hats, and the day ranges from GOOD to… well… at least tomorrow might be better.
It’s time for another new episode, and our hosts have braved HURRICANES and MILD CALIFORNIA WEATHER to bring it to you. This week, we discuss episode ten of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City, and the people in the house are finally starting to really pair off. Our faves continue to be wholesome and perfect, Taylor talks J-pop, and Makoto is cutting his losses while he’s ahead.
All good (?) things must come to an end, and it’s the start of a new era in the house this week as Taylor and Courtney discuss episode eleven of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Makoto gets replaced, our hosts explain foreigner etiquette, and Mizuki finally starts to get the recognition she deserves. Also, to celebrate our tenth episode, Courtney and Taylor answer your questions! Thank you so much for listening!!!!
Hop into our time machine, dear listener, and travel back with us to pre-hiatus October, when the spooks were plentiful and the treats were tricking. This week, we discuss episode twelve of Terrace House: Boys and Girls in the City, and it’s a particularly relatable one. Uchi experiences the pitfalls of dating, Arman gets the fun parts, and Taylor continues her convoluted lecture series with a quick rundown of Japanese history. We’re back baybee.
It’s a particularly bittersweet week in the Terrace Neighborhood as we discuss episode thirteen of Terrace House: Boys and Girls in the City. Yuriko cries in public, Uchi gets roasted (again), a new face joins the house, and our hosts discuss exams they’ve taken recently, because they live luxurious and exciting lives.
It’s a new year for the Terrace Neighborhood and it’s looking like the big changes are already coming as we discuss episode fourteen of Terrace House: Boys and Girls in the City! Uchi and Minori try to figure out human communication, a new love triangle arises, and a sacred food institution is revealed to be a double-edged sword. Frankly, everything about this episode is disgusting.
It's a quiet week here in the neighborhood, a little break after the emotional turmoil of last episode, as we discuss episode 15 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City. Every good story needs contemplative scenes between the action, and this is indeed a week of contemplation. Mizuki does some soul-searching, our hosts face old age hurtling toward them, and Uchi/Minori have an important talk, presumably before fading into the Void, because we cannot dedicate anymore of our lives to this relationship!!!!!
The world is made up of losers and winners, kid, and the only thing that decides where you end up is how badly you want it. Alphas and betas, my child, alphas and betas. This week, we’re discussing episode 16 of Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City, and the line between the two has been drawn. Yuki makes a last-ditch effort, Arisa wields the power of a wholesale juggernaut, and Mizuki settles into her role as “best friend” in this romcom posing as reality television. It’s all about the haves and the have-nots. Please buy my book.
