I had a great time with my good friend B3 or Bill Ludwig the third on this podcast. We get into all sorts of good stuff, including many entertaining stories from his childhood growing up in the second Chicago Ludwig factory and on to him working with musicians all over the world. B3 is always a treat to have around and he is still at it making drums with his current company WFL III. Lots of good stuff here, we hope you enjoy this episode!!
Steve Maxwell Jr. Joins Vintage Drum Show Icon Joe Luoma Just After The 2021 Chicago Show
We all had a fantastic time at the show in 2021 and our good friend Joe was good enough to join me for a podcast! He has been there from the start and has plenty of good stories about collecting drums, the origins of the Rebeats Chicago Vintage Drum Show and even his contribution to the modern drum world, Hot Rods, the original bundled dowel drumsticks. He has been collecting drums from back when most people did not know what they had, and has some of the toughest to find unique rare drums out there. This is a fun one, enjoy it!!
Hello again everyone, here with another installment of our podcast. Just a shop update here, with some Craviotto news and a sad note and tribute. Arnie Lang renown NY city percussionist and owner of Lang Gladstone has passed away. He lived a tremendously productive and important life with great influence in bringing back the genius innovations of the Gladstone snare drum with it's three way tuning system for modern players. We will all miss him and give thanks for all that he did to enrich our world during his life.
Steve Maxwell Jr. With Our Good Friend Local Drummer And Drum Shop Expert Paul Jacki
Paul Jacki is a household name in certain circles around Chicagoland. He has worked in just about every successful drum shop from Frank's to Drums Ltd. to The Drum Pad. We here at Maxwell Drums have been friends with Paul for many years with my father first meeting him back at Frank's in the seventies/eighties and Jr. experiencing his first drum shop (The Drum Pad) during Paul's time there. Paul is a great jazz player also with plenty of enjoyable stories to tell! We are happy to have him here with all of his insights and knowledge for this fun dialog, enjoy!!
This is our talk on the history of one of Chicago's own historic drum manufacturing companies, Slingerland. This company made many innovations over the years, and we try to touch on many of these. They had their own personal sound that you really can not miss and is rarely replicated today. They are also soon to see a renaissance as the name is now owned by DW and they have big plans for the future! We hope you enjoy this episode.
