The post 12 Voices, One God – 16: Habakkuk Part 2 appeared first on Beth Tikkun Messianic Fellowship.
This week, we introduce the book of Habakkuk, a prophetic dialogue that wrestles honestly with God amid injustice and confusion. In contrast to Nahum’s confident declaration of judgment against Assyria, Habakkuk voices deep questions about God’s justice in light of Judah’s suffering and God’s announcement that He will raise up Babylon to conquer Judah. The prophet’s journey—from complaint, through waiting, to worship—models a path of faithful questioning and enduring trust. Central to the message is Habakkuk 2:4: “The righteous shall live by his faith.”

This week, discussing the Book of Nahum, Tim Pell and Neil Steiner explore the prophetic contrasts between Nahum and Jonah, focusing on God’s justice, mercy, and poetic expression. They reflect on Nineveh’s initial repentance under Jonah and its eventual downfall in Nahum’s time, highlighting themes of retributive versus restorative judgment. The conversation also delves into the role of vivid language and poetry—both in Scripture and in sharing faith meaningfully today.

In this teaching, we begin our two weeks in the Book of Jonah, a book we revisit every year at Yom Kippur. In Jonah, God challenges the prophet’s adherence to strict justice. Jonah wants Nineveh punished, and he doesn’t believe God’s mercy in sparing the city after they repent is a good plan. So he rebels against the plan, twice.

The beginning of this message was a reminder to me from God to be patient. I regularly desire and pray for alleviation from fiscal and social-work burdens. But I know God has told me to be patient. I suppose fallen human nature is to question the brief light from the lightning. However brief, we must endure with the answers God has given us.
if people want to learn Torah, don't learn it from Christians.
