Turnover Party

Scott and Alex reunite on a Monday evening to discuss the game with the Texans. Highlights and lowlights. They've reached the philosophical "question everything" point with this team. There are a number of good plays to celebrate, and they do so. The overall mood is dominated by the dumpster fire that is our beloved Dolphins - and the numbers are examined to shed the light of truth into the disguise that a win gives the team. Our hosting duo has re-named the new "Circus moment" segment to something more direct and brutal. Same music. Same purpose. Looking to the Thursday game with the Ravens...

Alex and Scott are back after another long gap, so there's a lot to talk about in this episode. Recording on the morning before the last pre-season game, our hosts run the gambit of player, issues, injuries, coaching, GM moves, and more. Short write-up, long episode. Join us!

The Two Old Dolfans are headed to the LA Takeover Tailgate and talk about that. It's the traditional season prediction episode and they DO NOT agree this year! Not close! They dig into the Chargers game prediction a little deeper, and end with a bit about the "podcasters league" challenge.

Preseason 2023 Musings

In this episode, they talk about the offseason, observations from the first preseason game, things they are excited about, and things they are worried about. How do Miami's positions and units look for this year (so far)? What may be our strengths? Weaknesses? Where does Mike McDaniel struggle in his role of head coach and will he improve? All this and more...
The Two Old Dolfans start a new season with a short episode as a prelude to the draft. In the past, they have discussed "gems" and "their guy" for future draft consideration, but not dug into the draft as deeply as some of the offline conversations are and have been over the years. A few years ago, they flirted with "live draft coverage" in their one and only way too long youtube episode. This year, it's Alex, Scott, and young Jando throwing out their "guys" that they want, within range or reasonable trade up/down with the limited picks Miami has. They wanted to capture, in perpetuity, the names of the players they have highlighted as studs and contributors for THIS MIAMI TEAM here and now. They've been better than Grier and company in the draft (at least for the first few rounds) nearly every year, prior to and at the "pick" time, so don't discount them. Check out the young men they are looking at and cross your fingers.
The Two Old Dolfans both had unusual "views" of the game Saturday, and despite the oddity, have no shortage of observations and educated opinions.Regardless of the "No Asterisks" McD press conference comment, a lot of positive can be taken from this particular L (as opposed to the previous). Both Scott and Alex feel strongly about what we will see this Sunday, and about the longer term direction of the team. Listen in to their conversation and agree or disagree.

There was nothing funny about the Dolphins showing in Los Angeles, but we can put a funny title on it. Let's talk about the troubling signs. San Francisco gave the Dolphins a lesson, and the Miami coaching staff appeared to have learned nothing from it. So, now the Two Old Dolfans have to dig into the details, with angry face on. The answers are somewhat obvious. Coaching, scheme and playcalling - those things we were excited about so frequently this season with our rookie coach and his staff - well, we have a lot to say about it.  The Dolphins are heading to Buffalo trailing the Bills now - do they have a chance in the cold and snow, other than "any given Saturday?".
This week's episode brings more insight, commentary, and a couple of laughs to deal with the loss. Our eyes are looking ahead to Buffalo, but can't overlook the Chargers. It's a must win to have a shot at taking the division. How will the Dolphins do?

The Texans, one of the NFL's worst, showed us all what we can look like as a championship caliber team.  For a half. But despite domination on both sides of the ball, there are still improvements to be made, and concerns. The second half really showed us the lack of depth Miami's line suffers from. Alex and Scott talk about all this, AND, the exciting matchup in San Francisco coming this weekend.

Scott and Alex reunite on a Friday afternoon to spin up some chatter about the Steelers SNF game in Miami. There's some brief chatter about the Vikings game, but the rest of the episode is about what's coming on Sunday night. Listen into the conversation before the Dolphins and Steelers collide!
they hit the major events of the Bills and Bengals games, and dig into the results and controversies that resulted from both. A little more depth on the Jets disaster, which, other than the scoreboard, wasn't as bad as it might have seemed, BUT, and it's a big but, the NFL and NFLPA have made some huge blunders that need to be fixed now. What, why, and how? The Vikings are coming to Miami. What will that look like?
What Dolphins fan on earth doesn't want to talk about Sunday's amazing comeback victory over the Ravens in Baltimore. Scott and Alex have a lot of disdain for Harbaugh and his coaching style, and up to his old antics, he was part of the reason the Ravens choked this game away. Tua's Dolphins record tying / setting  performance, Waddle and Hill getting open all over the field, Gesicki climbing into the clouds, Cracraft coming off the practice squad, so many Dolphins heroes to tap for more reasons.

Finally, after game 1 of the 2022 NFL Season, they made it happen. Listen in as they jaw about the Patriots game, where to think about both our offense and defense reside in terms of quality, who stood out, who showed promise and what are we concerned about... They do an accelerated version of the "picks" episode within, and look forward to the next game in Baltimore.

he big news coming from the NFL has cast a shadow over a camp filled with a kind of magical potential. The Old Dolfans wanted to dig in to this issue, because, of course they have the opinion of the wise ;) . Also, some  observations of things coming out of camp, and, originally they weighed in with some strong opinions about the NFL and the Watson situation. Well, all three happened, but breaking news...
In this episode, they talk about the construction of the team from the coaching staff to free agents that have been signed, and even what they still might do before camp. How do these two old guru analysts feel about Tua? The O-Line? The RB and WR rooms? How will the Dolphins fare in a new culture and scheme?
Scott and Alex end their "winter" hiatus to create a two part State of the Dolphins 2022 podcast(s). In this episode, they go right into the draft and their read on how it will affect the team. Because Tyreek Hill is essentially picks 1,2 and 4 - they discuss that trade. All four picks the Dolphins made are addressed with some analysis. UDFA is a topic. Next year's (2023) draft and our desired philosophy gets some love.
There's no sitting on the sidelines this year with the bombshell Brian Flores dropped. Alex hurries back to San Diego from Los Angeles to discuss this with Scott in the first episode of Season 5. Our take is not the same as everyone else, and we wont walk you through all the pain of the franchise under Ross / for the last 25 years like everyone else seems to. Instead, we'll address the issues and propose some solutions. This is an important one to listen in on.
The Two Old Dolfans gather on a victory Monday to celebrate a win over the hated Pets. What happened in this game to provide the W? What patterns have become very clear about the Dolphins? What do we celebrate? Who wins the Ass clown award this week? Will we be able to keep winning? The Panthers come to Miami next - will the Dolphins get another W? How? A pleading request to our coaching staff.

...They talk about the most recent, and last, game of the 2021season, a relatively meaningless (but mostly fun) win against the Patriots. The large part of the discussion is the firing of Coach Flores, the retention of Chris Grier, the antics and decision making of Stephen Ross, and most importantly of all, who should be our next coach. It is critically essential that you tune in for these picks. The future of the human race depends on getting it right. Also, can you guess who the AC of the YEAR winner is? This concludes Season 4 of the Two Old Dolfans Podcast.

...What key plays, moreover, performances, led to the butt whooping our team got? What does history teach us about this Dolphins team, its coaching staff, and the front office? Mistakes in leadership and management are examined and re-examined, not necessarily the hindsight of this lost season, but more of "Why were these things obvious to a couple of old Dolfans, but not to the people getting paid millions to make the decisions?"...
