Guest Bio Marcelo Rojas Decut is the Co-Founder & CEO of eCLUB a modern bank for the unbanked in Latin America.  Marcelo has a professional career with over 18 years of senior experience in the financial sector - in retail and corporate banking - as a board member and commercial director in large global banks such as BBVA and Citi Bank focusing on LatAm, particularly Argentina, Paraguay & Uruguay.  He is also an entrepreneur at heart and 10 years ago ventured into new areas including Agro business and the use of innovative technologies to improve the yield and performance of its investments. Since 2017 he is a member of the executive board of CREA - the regional Consortium of Agricultural Innovation. Marcelo is a chartered accountant, with an Executive Post-graduate from the University of Navarra (IESE), a post-graduate degree in Applied Business Management at the California State University, as well as a Masters in Strategic Management from the Universidad de Misiones (UNAM) eCLUB eCLUB is a FinTech company focused on democratizing impact by providing access to financial services in Latin America. eCLUB’s mission is to solve the financial inclusion problem in Latin America. The social mission is to empower the 270 million unbanked people to help unlock Latin America ́s growth potential by giving them access to financial services for the first time. The vision is to become the regional leader. The first target country is Paraguay, given the current opportunities and partnerships available for the faster and more successful delivery of the initial growth plans and impact. Summary How do you help people improve their lives? Research shows that Impact Economics is key, which is driven by financial inclusion and empowerment, since the opportunities for people increase exponentially as their income and financial situation improves. But for this, people first need to be able to access what only a small percentage of the population can - equality so people have the same available to them, but this begins with access.   During this insightful conversation you will have a window open for you … to show you the current situation in Latin America, what needs to be done, what can be done, and who is doing it, and the immense opportunity for Impact Investing. Key Points In the US almost 60% of transactions are done digitally, in Latin America almost 75% of transactions are done in cash. The unbanked are living in an unequal society where people who have the least access to cash have to pay a higher price for financial services. We can help to close the huge gap between those who have access to financial services and those who haven't. eCLUB’s mission is to solve the financial inclusion problem in Latin America. The main focus is to help people have a better life. That is the end goal. Consumers have very few alternatives, most of the banking sector is concentrated in very few banks. And you can see the same story in every country. The sector is dominated by 5 or 6 banks that concentrate 80% of deposits and 80% of the loans.  Due to the lack of competition in the sector, the people have to pay some of the highest interest rates in the world, and some of the highest fees in the world. Yes, because they have no alternative.  The worst is that this way of doing banking has created a big problem, where almost 50% of the middle class and lower-middle-class people don't have access to an account, over 70% of the people don't have access to credit. Banking the unbanked means that simplicity is key in the user experience. “We are not just providing financial services, we are also giving the unbanked tools to improve their financial knowledge to re functionalities that allow people to track their expenses, knowing what they are spending the money.” In Latin America, there is a high level of entrepreneurship.  For small businesses the main barrier to growth is a lack of access to finance and credit. This sector creates 70% of employment in the whole of Latin America. eCLUB’s first market is Paraguay and to reach 1 million people in the next 4 years. They aim to launch in Brazil next! Guest bio Dr. Reinhard Hübner is the Chief Executive Officer at SKION WATER Gmbh and investment manager at SKion. With a background in industrial operations, Dr. Hübner has over 17 years of professional experience, including with an international management consultancy. Since 2010, he has been responsible for the development and management of the investment portfolio in the water technology sector at SKion. Summary Water is the one resource we can’t live without, and for which there is no substitute. Investing in water technology companies is both an entrepreneurial opportunity and opportunity to protect a precious resource that can have the biggest impact in the world. Guest Bio - David O’Leary David is a wealth management expert, impact investment professional, public speaker, and writer. David spends his time as Founder & Principal of Kind Wealth, a holistic wealth management practice helping early to mid-career Canadians manage their money in a way that matches their values. (See full BIO at the end of the notes) Summary This is yet another  fascinating episode that covers so many questions: What is the role of a wealth manager? Or an Investment Manager? Or a Financial Planner?  What is the fiduciary duty? And what is the duty of the pension funds and other institutions that are the largest investors in the world?  And from a personal perspective, what are some of the best things the “average” person can do to “vote with their dollar”? Do you have to be a high-stakes, risk-taking investor to make a difference? Or can you be involved from early career stages to shape the future world into a sustainable landscape and impact wealth reality? What is the best intersectionality between advisors and clients? How do we measure impact, the access and the inclusion to products, services and the effect they are having on people, the environment and the returns?  These and so many more topics are covered during this in-depth episode. Enjoy!  Key points The definition of “impact investment” and the spectrum of capital: where or how you want to participate is your personal choice based on your wealth management goals. Somehow, sustainable investment and profit-generation became mutually exclusive, but it doesn’t have to be. The impact of having a theory of change Whatever it’s called, when your approach to wealth management includes using finances to better the world, your investments will be healthier than if you were only trying to get more money with little regard to how profits are generated. David also produces and hosts The Impact Investing Podcast and is a frequent speaker at conferences and in the media (The Globe & Mail, The Toronto Star, BNN Bloomberg, CNBC Africa, etc.). Previously, David was Managing Director of Origin Capital, the impact investing division of World Vision Canada. Prior to that he co-founded Eden Valley Partners, an advisory practice managing discretionary portfolios and providing financial planning to high net worth Canadians. David spent the first 13 years of his career with Morningstar in both Canada and South Africa in a variety of Director level roles where he specialized in Investment Manager Research. David holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Toronto, an MBA from the Rotman School of Business, the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, and the Qualified Associate Financial Planner® (QAFP) designation. He is also working toward the Certified Professional Impact Analyst (CPIA) designation at Queens University.  ------- David’s short life story In clichéd fashion, my life was transformed when I met a girl. I know, boy meets girl, how original! But her influence led me to take a six-week sabbatical from my job on Bay Street to spend that time volunteering in Sierra Leone with one of the world’s largest humanitarian organizations. My goal was to learn about how they were using microfinance to help end poverty.  The trip was an emotional roller coaster that left me, at once, angry, sad, inspired, and motivated to do something about the appalling inequality I had witnessed. I didn’t realize it then, but two years later I would move to South Africa. Four years after that, I would quit my job in the institutional investment world and move home to pursue work that I felt could make a bigger social impact. This work included co-founding a traditional financial advisory practice that integrated philanthropy with financial planning for retirement-age Canadians. It also included three years leading the impact investing division of the same INGO I had volunteered with all those years ago in Sierra Leone. During this time, I spent evenings and weekends working to get Kind Wealth off the ground.   I’m passionate about Kind Wealth because during my 20 years of working in financial services, I came to see the underbelly of the industry and the many ways in which it took advantage of clients, the very people it claims to serve. I have also built a deep understanding of how people’s money choices impact the world around us: whether it be decisions about saving, spending, investing, or donating, it all leaves a footprint, for better or worse. I am excited to be building a wealth management practice that actually lives out its values, treats clients fairly, and helps them reach their financial goals in a way they can feel good about.  On a personal note, I am a passionate advocate for equality of all stripes but maintain a particular focus on fighting for gender equality and against wealth inequality. I have a wide set of eclectic and often incongruous interests. In what feels like a lifetime ago, I was a competitive boxer in both Canada and South Africa. As such, I spent a great many hours punching other people in the face. Yet I’ve spent even more time traveling to developing countries trying to understand the root causes of wealth inequality and how I could help tackle it.  In recent years I have been on a quest to simplify my life, be content with less, and stay mindful of the impact my life choices have on the world around us. I am currently working on eating less meat and reducing my family’s consumption by purchasing or bartering for second-hand goods. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, that girl I mentioned at the top of my bio, the one who changed my life, I ended up marrying her and having two strong-willed, socially conscious girls together.  ------- Important: The content shared on this podcast does not constitute a request, offer, recommendation or solicitation of any kind to buy, subscribe, sell or redeem any investment instruments or to perform other such transactions of any kind.

In fact, all investments have impact, good or bad, the key is in having a “net positive impact”. So what are the challenges we are facing to become an impact leader? Where do you want to put your stakes? Do you need special knowledge, or can you start where you are? These and many more questions are discussed and some real insights are shared during this episode. Highlights The main reasons why people and companies are NOT creating Profit & Impact. The most important thing is to start, improvements can be made along the way. It is still early days, but there are already many solid resources that will help with navigating the impact investment world. Seek out knowledge because “success leaves clues” and if you look hard enough, you will find what you need to propel you forward. About this episode What do you do when your desire to change the world seems at odds with capitalism? Sir Tim Smit pulls back the curtains on the perception of a contradictory world that is actually not so contradictory at all. He shares the lessons and mistakes that can transform an organization from ordinary to extraordinary, and it all has to do with mutually beneficial partnerships. “If you can't do the whole job, you could end up doing a lot of damage.” So how do you make sure you can do the whole job? About Sir Tim Smit Sir Timothy Bartel Smit KBE is a Dutch-born British businessman is best known for his achievements in Cornwall and for writing the book The Lost Gardens of Heligan, winner of the 1997 Book of the Year. He and John Nelson restored the gardens, which are now one of the UK’s best loved gardens and named “Garden of the Year” by BBC Countryfile Awards (Mar 2018).   Tim started work as an archaeologist before taking an unexpected leap into the music business, working as both a songwriter and producer receiving seven platinum and gold discs.  Tim is currently the Executive Vice-Chair and Co-founder of the multi award-winning Eden Project in Cornwall. Since its opening in 2001, over 22 million people have come to see a once-sterile pit turned into a cradle of life containing world-class horticulture and startling architecture, symbolic of human endeavour.  He dreamt up and created the Eden Project, near St Austell, an £80 million initiative to build two transparent biomes in an old china clay pit near the village of Bodelva, which is said to have contributed over £1 billion into the Cornish economy. Tim is also Executive Co-Chair for Eden Project International, which aims to have an Eden Project on every habited continent by 2025.  Key points The pandemic has exacerbated but also highlighted and accelerated necessary changes in how we interact with our environment. Long-term partnerships - that are mutually beneficial - are the key to sustained growth and opportunities that can truly make a difference. The Eden Project is more than just building pretty gardens, there are deep, social and philosophical, reasons for why it has been developing scientifically the way it has. The key to upending the status quo when it comes to clean air and water for all is having difficult conversations that really examine why capitalism and moral bankruptcy are falsely equated. Some of the difficult conversations are unintentional consequences of oversimplifying complex issues as “good” or “bad” Sir Tim Smit lists his favourite people and books that discuss intelligent approaches to understanding how the world should work, and how it was working before intervention that was backed by greed and self-interest.  Time stamps [4:18] The social impact of pandemic and lockdowns [12:14] What is the difference between investment and impact investment? Although they are diverse sectors and geographies, technologies that will work are not all that different. “We want to build businesses for the long term, which will continue to be valuable, and will be even more valuable in somebody else's hands.”  Climate can destroy a business's supply chain, it can destroy consumer preferences, there are so many aspects you have to factor in sustainability into your very future. The Subnational Climate Fund (SCF) is our first product to bring creative solutions in blended finance to the emerging markets. Nature based solutions are about holistic solutions. Tim Crockford leads the Regnan Equity Impact Solutions team. He previously managed the Hermes Impact Opportunities Equity Fund from its launch in December 2017, having co-founded the Hermes Impact team in 2016. Tim joined Hermes Investment Management in 2009 as a research analyst for the European Equities team and became lead portfolio manager of the ESG-integrated Hermes Europe ex-UK Equity Fund in 2015, which he also managed until he left Hermes. About Regnan Regnan is a responsible investment leader with a long and proud heritage providing advice and insights on important environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. Regnan was established in 1996 to investigate and address ESG-related related sources of risk and value for long-term shareholders in Australian companies. Building on that expertise, in 2020 Regnan expanded its capabilities into responsible investment funds management, backed by the considerable resources of Pendal Group (ASX:PDL), the Australian investment manager and owner of J O Hambro Capital Management. They have offices in Sydney, Melbourne and London. Key Points: Engagement and stewardship is a hugely important part of impact investing. “It’s all part of the same strategy to really try and democratise it as an investment category, to broaden access to impact investing.” “I think one of the cultures within the investment team is this concept of constant improvement, so the strategy, the process, the philosophy is identical to the one that we founded back in 2012, we started building in 2016, and launched in 2017.” On systems change - Our SDG taxonomy is the centerpiece. The taxonomy is basically what helps us identify what systems we’re going to be moving towards. It is a process and a list of economic activity in product and services that are being produced by companies that help achieve specific SDG targets. “I hope to see that all Article 9 business takes much more nuanced and thoughtful approach to classifying which companies they will ultimately invest and allocate their capital towards, and which they aren't ... ... I think ultimately, businesses change and businesses can reinvent themselves, which is something that that needs to be reminded. We have some great examples in our portfolio of companies that have transitioned from perhaps in the industries that have been extractive industries and negative industries in the past towards, you know, positive areas like renewables in renewable energies, but ultimately, it's much more complicated and much more qualitative than a simple scoring system can ever help you achieve.” Education is key. Being able to help investors that are new to sustainable impact investing to understand and decipher this alphabet soup of terminology is key, because it allows them to quickly or more quickly align, their own objectives with the products that are available to them on the market.  Further education and refinement of the terminology is key.  Fund managers that are perhaps newer to the game, should try and be vigilant and careful with how they label their products, not just from a regulatory point of view, but also from a naming convention point of view. Because it makes a big difference in helping the broader understanding of people who are just learning about this space as we speak. The future belongs to everyone Good businesses exist to solve problems. Look beyond the marketing material and imaging to really challenge the investors to tell you what they want to achieve and tell you how they want to achieve it. Leaders are innovative and sometimes have to rewrite the rules. Time Stamp: [0:00:50] Intro [0:02:30] What is sustainable and impact investing? [0:06:44] It takes time. She holds a MBA from Harvard Business School and a BSc in Economics from Unicamp. About Snowball IM Snowball Impact Management is a diversified, multi-asset investment vehicle that aims to create positive outcomes for people and planet whilst generating sound financial returns. Snowball invests in a range of public and private funds that support a variety of social and environmental outcomes across the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. They are currently have deployed our funds invested in public and private market investments and we target a risk-adjusted annual return of 5-6% above inflation, net of all fees, over the long term. They have a four year track record investing with this strategy. Highlights: “We still look and act as if people and nature are inputs into the financial process and inputs for financial gains instead of thinking financial markets are tools to support people and planet.” Impact investing: is intentional, additional and measurable and incorporates risk based approach of ESG and takes it one step further. The ABC approach = A: Avoiding harm + B: Benefiting stakeholders + C: Contributing to solutions “I do think that especially the larger companies could do faster than what they are doing. And I think, unfortunately, a lot of them will only do it under pressure from investors and from the way that we invest. And that's why it's important, I think, is a very important role of the financial industry to make sure that we also don't get accommodated with the status quo , and start to really put some incentives and pressure for companies to transition faster, especially the ones that have more resources to do so.” Snowball’s investment strategy is to have a diversified portfolio: renewable energy, sustainable forestry, social housing, charity bonds, circular economy, tech for good.  They invest in all SDGs - with the final SDG in aquaculture of SDG14 - Life Below Water.  First time investors are interested to learn from every asset classes and impact from every SDGs. Core and satellite strategy: What is happening on the ground How fund managers works with investments to improve impact How we work with other fund managers and investors to improve our approach and share leaning Standards and regulations are next steps to scale impact. We need to make it easy for investors to compare and contrast investments and make it harder for impact washing. Pricing of negative externalities is a fundamental step in scaling and mainstreaming impact. Rockefeller Foundation gave a grant so that Snowball can share their experience to the impact community of lessons learned about starting and growing an impact fund - there will be a webinar - Watch this space. Investment examples: Circularity Capital is an investment fund of Snowball, they invest in circular economy businesses. Shark Solutions is an investment of Circular Capital, they recycle and reuse hard to extract PVB from laminated glasses. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. The elea Way Book - The Learning Journey Toward Sustainable Impact The new book by Vanina Farber and Peter A. Wuffli summarizes insights from elea’s 15-year pioneering journey, from creating an investment organization, choosing purposeful themes, and sourcing opportunities, to partnering with entrepreneurs for impact creation. Elea Foundation Elea was established in 2006 with the purpose of fighting absolute poverty (i.e. less than USD 3 daily income) with entrepreneurial means. Elea is a philanthropic impact investor in the fields of agricultural value chains, informal retail and last mile distribution, employable skill building and digital solutions. Institute for Management Development (IMD) The Institute for Management Development (IMD) is an independent academic institution with Swiss roots and global reach, founded 75 years ago by business leaders for business leaders. Based in Lausanne Switzerland and Singapore, IMD has been ranked in the Top 3 of the annual FT’s Executive Education Global Ranking for the last nine consecutive years and in the top five for 17 consecutive years. Their MBA and EMBA programs have repeatedly been singled out among the best in Europe and the world. The tag line is Challenging what is and inspiring what could be.            Highlights: Since the term was coined in 2007, there is now $500 -700 billion committed capital to impact investing. Social entrepreneurs are supported by organisations such as Ashoka, Skoll World Forum, WEF, Leaders of Tomorrow. Social entrepreneurship and impact investing are the two trends coming together bringing inclusive capitalism to solve and innovative solutions. I am a strong believer that capitalism is something great. Capitalism should be the solution and not the problem. But I also say we should make capitalism more inclusive. Talented people today want to work in companies that pursue meaningful purpose. Public expects capitalism to be articulated in a new way. We can do well by doing good. Every wealthy family particularly the younger generation is interested in these topics The elea Center for Social innovation focus on bringing social entrepreneurs with corporates Covid - All 20 active ventures survived. It was a humbling experience working with entrepreneurs through the pandemic. The pandemic gave us much more urgency and momentum. There is bigger recognition that systemic risks that are tail risks with low probability could happen. The idea of the system is much more concrete and the idea of interconnectedness becomes clear. The Elea Way Book allows for self learning, it is a practical and hands on book from a pedagogical perspective. It is the book that brings together social entrepreneurship and impact investing Standing on the shoulders of others - Bill Braden and Andy Kuper Bill Braden - CEO and founder of Ashoka  - pioneer of social entrepreneurship Andy Cooper - Leapfrog, the first proof of an investment company that profit and purpose works. Fund managers should take a deeper look at impact. 3 phases of impact investment: $10k - Idea phase, competition $100k - Entrepreneur has to decide to fully commit, friends and family money not suffice. revenue of $0.5-2million - Not just concepts, building teams, working with government, 5-7 years Accion harnessing digital technology to create financial inclusion Examples of investments: InkaMoss - helping 6000 farmers, small farm holders in Peru Dharma Life - supporting entrepreneurship in 40,000 villages in India BagoSphere - providing digital courses to improve employability skills in The Philippines Encouraged to see that social entrepreneurship, impact entrepreneurship and corporates are coming together. “No hay mal. Que por bien no venga” - There are 100’s of methods but nothing that suited our purpose.  The elea Impact Measurement Method was developed for for measuring of impact on absolute poverty specifically for elea. This takes into account - factors and elea impact points/1000 Swiss Franc. Impact points serve 3 purpose: To set goals - how many impact point we want to achieve For comparability between ventures - capital allocation tool To communicate regular performance reporting Investors are not just competing for more impact points but internalising the impact, more than just seeing images. Quantifying impact helps the decision making process and applies theory of change. At some stage, in 5-10 years, impact becomes tradeable. These kinds of currencies become real currency and maybe blockchain will help us here to create markets with impact. When we look at impact it is still traded at a discount. My dream is that one day impact will be traded at a premium not at a discount. They are not called donors, they are called philanthropic investors who give us philanthropic investors. They become by being on the board, helping with strategy and risk management. It’s not about creating bigger institutions and organisations. It’s about how to build partnerships, how to build bridges across sectors. It’s about getting different type of organisations aligned. Collaboration in blended finance needs to be more agile. We are starting to see SDG funds of $500million with blended finance facilities.  Keys to leadership is intentional influence. Leadership needs to be ethical, be more horizontal than vertical, and is able to get things done and mobilise people around solving problems. We need to learn and be thorough. We have wasted a lot of money. Entrepreneurship is more critical and scarce now than money for impact investment.” Time Stamp: [0:02:40] Intro to Vanina and Peter [0:05:20] What is impact investing? "... one of the very few independent investment managers in Germany, and in operation for 20 years, is in my view, a strong indication of the vision that the two founders set out Roman and Dieter." “We want to bring to the table smart capital, as opposed to passive capital that is abundantly existing, but doesn't really get to the point.” There is an interest in investing in Asia. More institutional investors in the region are interested in increasing exposure to renewable energy and sustainable investments. We support by not just creating our own renewable energy offering but by helping create a broader universe of offering for renewable energy that benefits everyone. The renewable energy market is constantly changing you need to stay ahead, stay intellectually curious and have the ambition to analayse the market and create sound investment decisions. Ben Constable-Maxwell is Head of Sustainable and Impact Investing at M&G Investments, leading the strategy on impact investing as well as covering sustainability issues such as climate change and the circular economy.  He has been central to the development of ESG integration within M&G’s investment processes and has supported the development of ESG solutions for clients across asset classes.  Ben plays an active industry role as a member of various sustainable and impact investment initiatives, interacting with companies, policymakers, NGOs and other investors. He is a Trustee at Firefly International youth organisation, which provides educational and mental health support for young people in conflict-affected areas in the Balkans and Middle East.  Previous to joining M&G in 2003, Ben spent four years with the Equities team at Invesco Perpetual.  He has an honours degree in Classics from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Highlights:  “We have a responsibility to integrate ESG across our suite of investments and asset classes” If you think about the the issues that drive performance, the issues that really can cause major blow ups, often they're ESG related. Data breach, oil spills, falling faul to a major diversity and inclusion related scandal are all things that can hit the reputation and bottom line of consumers. We just think you have to take into account all these risk whether ESG funds or not, right across all $350B assets. “We have a suite of ESG funds that covers different asset classes. Over the last 10 years, in particular the past 4-5 years, the ESG integration programs across M&G started in equities and fixed income, but is now broadening out to all asset classes on behalf of clients. All of them now say they embrace and integrate and ESG approach.” We have to and our clients wants specifically designed funds with clearly articulated ESG integration programmes  Impact financing fund - Private debt investments in liquid debts investments that have a net positive impact such as social housing, energy efficiency and green buildings, renewable energy infrastructures ESG needs to be managed and communicated just as how the risk function has evolved over the past 10-15 years. There is expectation from clients that ESG is an important part of the process. It’s not just the ESG team, it has to come from the leadership. Companies are not just seeing this as a leadership issue, they are seeing this as a survival issue. Shifting from competitive, moated competitive advantage thinking to a open-minded, supportive, collaborative approach. Mindset shift in healthcare sector with Covid - the role is not just to protect your IP and generate super normal returns but to provide healthcare and save lives. M&G Triple “I” framework: Investment, Intentionality, Impact. Investment: sustainable business models, good company, long-term. Intention comes from purpose, clarity of purpose and authenticity. Examples of KPIs - Millions of tons of greenhouse gas saved, avoidance of virgin material and use of virgin forest. Millions of trees saved, millions of people accessing financial services in underserved communities. Move from a shareholder primacy perspective to a stakeholder responsibility perspective. A company should genuinely be thinking about its responsibilities to all stakeholders and future generations. Impact adjusted accounting approach - we need a new accounting system for the 21st century. Collaboration is at an all time high, to navigate the complexity of changes and behaviours we need.  Time Stamp: [03:00] What is sustainable and impact investing? [05:00] What does M&G do? On today’s episode we are doing something different: we are sharing with you a session that I called “The Sustainable Investment Dilemma”, a conversation I hosted as part of The CogXtra weekly event series, covering in this opportunity the subject of “Sustainable Business – How Industry is addressing the Climate Crisis”. In our case, the financial industry. As my co-panellist I brought together two guests: Amy Clarke, who is Co-Founder & Chief Impact Officer of Tribe Impact Capital, and  Troy Mortimer, who is Responsible Investment and ESG Advisor at ILA & Partners.  If you did not know them already, I highly recommend that you also listen to the individuals episodes we recorded previously. You can also read her Bios at the end of these notes.  As part of the event I also shared a short Video introduction to the recently launched film “Our Planet: Too Big To Fail”, which is a 42-minute film that explores the risks of inaction, the impact of investing-as-usual, and the role the finance sector can play powering a sustainable future. I wanted to bring this to your attention to ask you to watch it and share it, so we can all take proactive actions! You can watch the video on ILA & Partners’ website - Media section: http://bit.ly/ILAmediaV I also thought this is relevant to set the tone ahead of our conversation, but most importantly, I wanted to shine the light on one of the best tools we have to create awareness and understand how interconnected the industry is to every part of society and the world at large. Please note that we had a couple of technical challenges that were all resolved during the first few minutes, but I wanted to make sure you had access to this valuable content. Enjoy !  Highlights: “If we can create a much healthier relationship with our wealth, and the purpose of our wealth, then actually we should be able to fix, repair, increase resilience, and ultimately regenerate the relationships with each other and with nature.” Amy Clarke 50th anniversary of Milton Friedman's seminal essay that was penned and then printed in the New York Times Magazine “there is a real sense that the values and belief systems upon which we have built this global finance system aren't right, they're not fit, they're not robust.” There is the rise of the BCorp movement and the use of BLab tools during the lockdown has risen exponentially. “Impact investing is about helping wealth holders reconnect with the purpose of their wealth. The word wealth comes from two old English 13th century old English words, meaning well being, we've lost the well being and wealth along the way. And it's become singularly focused on financial performance.” Amy Clarke “I see this as a behavioral inertia challenge. Financial institutions are comprised of individuals, we need to look at how we incentivise these individuals, how we are rewarding them and how we associate value with their actions.” Troy Mortimer We can transition not all but a lot of companies through to becoming a force for good. “We need a just transition, quickly and effectively where finance, regulation and policy play a role. We need a carrot and a stick.” Troy Mortimer How do we move beyond (Only) preaching to the converted? The later we leave it, the steeper the transition is going to be - Mark Carney The more we pushback regulation deadlines, the more uncertainty it creates. Ultimately, its better to takes the operational learnings in Covid and behaviour change and apply it to compliance and regulation. Bernard Looney, CEO of BP, a different style of leadership. Moving away into a more human style of leadership. We need to use AI to help change behaviours in the right direction. Passive ESG funds should be able to demonstrate intent. Its important to populate the empirical evidence and convince the skeptics of the economic data with the language that they know. “We have outperformed the benchmarks. There is more than enough data to show that these type of investments are resilient on up and down cycles, which is why we are seeing huge flows into ESG.” Amy Clarke “As a bellwether for market sentiment, its phenomenal, because we can now see everybody is looking for safe harbours and safe harbours of businesses with these kind of resilience built in.” “Investors should be thinking - Well, I understand that there is some volatility right now, but in the mean time, I’m investing for something larger. What you wil see is that over the long-term, it starts to come back in financial returns.” Troy Mortimer As Tim Geithner said, at least in relation to the US financial crisis and how they had resources large enough to do anything about that crisis , but I think financial resources will not be enough in relation to the Sustainability challenge we face. And we will not have time to react and fix things. But we must be proactive.
