A rare Ian Street match diary from Newport. Not in the happiest circumstances, or with the happiest of match reports, but there's some laughter and joy along the way as we hear from Dave, Iwan, Fin (from Maeve), Jack and Ed about the home loss to Colchester (as well as Dave & Ed's match report on the midweek win over Tranmere).Do check out our shiny new website and drop us a line on the socials if you have anything to tell us, including feedback on our new theme tune (the original 1973 recording of Run Lads, Shoot Lads). Thanks as ever to the Riverside Sports Bar for their support of the pod.Not yet sure of the plan for next weekend. We may have a Barnet match report, or we may offer up some alternative bonus content for a bit of fun... But until then, look after yourselves and each other, and above all Keep It County. A short episode, this one, but we pack a lot in. Ed gets a match report from Silvers on Saturday's creditable away point at Fleetwood, we hear Rhys' take on the news that the Dragons will seek to help County stay at Rodney Parade if relegation happens, and we preview Tuesday's game by chatting to our usual Tranmere correspondent Ethan. We also mention in passing a characteristically insightful match report on Saturday's game from The Venerable Mark Vickery (from whom we also stole the picture for this week's episode artwork).Do check out our shiny new website and drop us a line on the socials if you have anything to tell us, including feedback on our new theme tune (the original 1973 recording of Run Lads, Shoot Lads). Thanks as ever to the Riverside Sports Bar for their support of the pod. We'll be back with a deep dive into the Tranmere and Colchester games, hopefully featuring an Ian Street match diary. Until then, look after yourselves and each other, and above all Keep It County. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In another joint episode between the 1912 Exiles and the Dragons Lair podcast, we sat down for a chat over Zoom with Leader of Newport Council, Dimitri Batrouni. We asked about the council's commitment to both grassroots sport and pro sport in Newport, what steps it might take to support the redevelopment of Rodney Parade, and whether anything will ever get built on the Cabbage Patch. We're grateful to Dimitri for giving us his time, and we hope you find the chat useful and engaging. And then after the break we hear from Dave & Iwan about the great away win at Salford, and from Jack about the home defeat to Cambridge... Many thanks to them for their reportage. Give us a holler if you want to provide insights on next Saturday's game at Fleetwood.Do check out our shiny new website and drop us a line on the socials if you have anything to tell us, including feedback on our new theme tune (the original 1973 recording of Run Lads, Shoot Lads). After one point from nine leaves County five points adrift at the bottom of the Fourth Division, Ed caught up with Alfie, Logan and debutant George to ask what went wrong against Grimsby, Swindon and Franchise - and how on earth we can extract ourselves from this mess.Do check out our shiny new website and drop us a line on the socials if you have anything to tell us, including feedback on our new theme tune (the original 1973 recording of Run Lads, Shoot Lads). Well that was a week, wasn't it? After the high of the Chesterfield win, Jamie, Jack, and Alfie dissect those defeats to Accrington Stanley and Bristol Rovers, as well as a curious transfer deadline day. We're also keen to highlight the 15:01 kick off time for this weekend's Grimsby match. It's for the Every Minute Matters campaign with British Heart Foundation to raise awareness on CPR training. 8 out of 10 cardiac arrests outside of hospitals occur at home, and survival chances drop 10% for every minute without intervention. So look after your loved ones and teach yourselves the basics by checking out BHF Revivr for a 15 minute course entirely for free. Also, huge, huge thanks to everyone who has donated to the GoFundMe for Ollie - we've been blown away. We'll be back after the Grimsby home game, possibly before Swindon away. But until then, look after yourselves and each other, and above all Keep It County. Thanks as ever to the Riverside Sports Bar for their support of the pod. Our theme is Virgo by Sean T. This week saw the awful, tragic news that podcast regular and one of our favourite people, Ollie Allen, passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of just 23.We devote a large chunk of the episode to talking about our favourite memories of Ollie and what a huge loss he will be to the fanbase and to the city. We mention the GoFundMe page set up to support his family at this difficult time, honouring a young life full of joy, loyalty, and too short a time with us. And we also praise the great work by the club and fans to organise a very moving minute's applause during Saturday's game in Ollie's memory. Thank you to everyone who made it so poignant. We touch too on recent results, last week's NCAFC Trust meeting and the transfer window - and no doubt we'll return to some of those themes in our next regular episode, most likely after the Bristol Rovers game. But until then, and in this week even more than usual, please take care, look after yourselves and each other, and above all Keep It County. Thanks as ever to the Riverside Sports Bar for their support of the pod. After a weather-enforced break, we're back with a few bits of business:First up, Jamie sat down over Zoom with Arnie from the NCAFC Supporters' Trust to discuss next week's AGM - what's up for discussion, why are the Trust considering relinquishing some of their shares, and what's the wider picture around the financial health of the club? Then, Ed asks Alfie for his reaction to a busy week of transfer ins and outs.We catch up with the ME7 podcast to get a preview of what we can expect from a trip to Gillingham on Saturday. And finally, we get a welcome update from our friends at Rogerstone AFC Women on their recent progress. For those of you planning on attending Thursday's Trust meeting, you can register online. No payment is required - once you've entered your details, you just need to add your membership number (as shown in your Trust Membership account on the website or in the e-mail inviting you to the meeting). If you're heading to Gillingham and fancy doing us a match report, drop us a line via your social media platform of choice. Thanks as ever to the Riverside Sports Bar (the home of great sport and burgers in Newport) for their support of the pod. Our theme is Virgo by Sean T.We'll be back in about ten days' time, all being well, to react to the Gillingham and Chesterfield games and to discuss the ramifications of the Trust meeting. Sunday's postponement of Newport County vs Tranmere threw into disarray our podcast release plan for a review of the New Year week double-header! But we wanted to make the transition back to work on Monday easier for you, so here's a short pod anyway. Ed speaks to 1912 Exiles debutants Logan and Fab to get their review of the New Year's Day loss to Bromley, and then the panel consider County's transfer business so far and where the biggest gaps remain.Happy New Year to all listeners. Be sure to get 2026 off to a bang by leaving a nice review wherever you get your podcasts - and if you fancy being on an episode, drop us a line via your social media platform of choice. Ian, Rhys, Alfie & Ed assembled for a festive recording, seeking to fulfil their promise of an episode free from County-related misery and to bring some light relief to a traumatic season. Over the course of an hour, they discuss: what Christmas presents you'd buy for past Newport County players; quirky stories about football at Christmas; what we'd do if we were the ghosts of Christmas past / present / future; the best loan players or most under-rated players we've seen in a County shirt - oh, and then Rhys finishes things off with an anagram quiz, only for us to realise most of them were wrong...We'd welcome your thoughts, as always, so do contact us via your social media platform of choice. A long-overdue episode, this one, as we explore Newport County's ownership, the potential loss of league status, and the current existential crisis at NP19.Ian is in the chair, and is joined by Rhys and Ed. The gang briefly discuss the Crewe and Fleetwood games, but then turn our attention to matters off the pitch. With a crunch fan forum meeting taking place next Wednesday, we ask what chairman Huw Jenkins needs to say and do, what the next six weeks may mean for the club's medium-term future, and what needs to change culturally to shift the dial at the club from gloom to joy. We'd welcome your thoughts, as always, so do contact us via your social media platform of choice. After a shambolic TV broadcast this week which made the FIFA World Cup draw (complete with Rio Ferdinand-Gianni Infantino comedy skits and Wayne Gretzky attempting to pronounce “North Macedonia”) look like a polished, professional affair, Jamie attempts to unpack Newport County’s humbling in the FA Cup away to Borehamwood. You may wish to cheer yourself up by listening to some Radiohead, or even better, Ed’s chat with the Crewe pod The Railwaymen ahead of our away game on Wednesday. A pod of two halves for you again, in what has been a momentous week for Newport County. In Part 1, Ed asks Jamie for his initial reaction to County's new manager announcement, and we also rifle through listeners' reactions to the appointment of Christian Fuchs. Then, in Part 2, Ed reports from an ultimately dispiriting loss at Oldham, catching up along the way with Ollie, Mark, Jane & Silvers. Whilst being as positive as they can about what the new manager might bring, there's also no sugar-coating just how desperate things look for a County side rooted to the bottom of the Fourth Division, and now five points from safety. We'd welcome your thoughts, as always, so do contact us via your social media platform of choice. An emergency pod of sorts, as Newport County finally part ways with manager Dave Hughes. First up, Alfie, along with friend of the pod Marc, report from the final match of the Hughes era up at Shrewsbury yesterday. That's followed by a morning-after-the-day-before reflection, with Jamie & Ian dissecting the moments throughout the season that have led to this point, where we need to head next, and analysing the current state of play for the Huw Jenkins projectDo look at our ko-fi page to either buy some 1912 Exiles Bovril Spice, or to throw in a few pounds towards our #WhitmoresWarnings fund. A team effort this one as we hear from Ed, Ollie, Dave, Iwan, Fraser, Hwyligan, Jamie & Ian - as well as from Nathan Blake whose new podcast with Rob Phillips is well worth a listen. Between them, they consider a range of listener questions/thoughts, analyse County's loss to table-topping Walsall, and consider what November might herald.Do look at our ko-fi page to either buy some 1912 Exiles Bovril Spice, or to throw in a few pounds towards our #WhitmoresWarnings fund. Our 250th episode of the pod (the sestercentennial, for those of you who wanting to know the official term), and a chance to stretch our legs with a longer-form episode. Rhys is in the chair, with Jamie and Alfie chipping in to discuss where Newport County find ourselves at the end of #OctopusOctober (how did that stick as a name?!?) and what the coming weeks might bring. They also effortlessly weave in clips and contributions from:Max, with a match report on a dramatic and deserved FA Cup victory over Gillingham.Dragons Lair Jamie on last week's WRU announcement regarding pro rugby, and what it means for the Dragons, Rodney Parade and County.Ellie from Rogerstone AFC Women (our featured local team for 2025/26) on their first win, 4-3 over Treorchy.Gary from One Pod Beyond on what County can expect next Saturday when Walsall come to NP19.As we mention at the top of the show, look at our ko-fi page to either buy some 1912 Exiles Bovril Spice, or to throw in a few pounds towards our #WhirmoresWarnings fund. Well my goodness, where did that come from? Ian's at the helm at what is now a happy stomping ground in Harrogate away. Featuring Dave (YrAlltudion) and Iwan, it's a classic matchday diary away in another northern town. After the doom and gloom of the last episode, it's welcoming to have some more uplifting tones. Ian's now seen two away wins this month - did the move to a classic 4-4-2 do the trick? Has that 'league of three' at the bottom of the table got a little bit bigger? Has Ian got the bovril stains out of his jeans? Only time will tell.Do contact us via your social media platform of choice if you have anything you want to share. Rhys sat down on Sunday night with Ed and Ian to read the runes after Newport County's humbling by Cheltenham Town, and to ask the big questions. Can Dave Hughes keep his job? What will happen if he goes? Where does our defensive injury crisis leave us? Can we still be in contention for survival come January? Is there even money to strengthen if we are? Is our situation more akin to a bad episode of Ready, Steady Cook or to Icarus? It's not an uplifting listen, but it is an important reality check - one which ends with a rare Ian Street poetry reading (this time it's Resignation by Lostling).Do contact us via your social media platform of choice if you have anything you want to share. A bit of bonus content for you. Ed sat down for what was supposed to be a ten-minute match preview chat with our Cheltenham counterparts for a short social media clip - but it ended up being such a good conversation we thought we'd put it out as an extra poodcast. Ed is joined by Dan from The Robins Report podcast and the Talk of the County podcast to discuss both sides' prospects on Saturday.Do contact us via your social media platform of choice if you have anything you want to share.
