Githain of Deathbed

Githain of Deathbed

2020-11-0501:32:56

Kicking off the new season of the experience is a vocal hard man but really one of the nicest guys in the world Githain from the Brisbane hardcore band Deathbed. We talk about musical upbringings, what the hardcore/metal scene was like back 10-15 years ago to what it is now, what's next in store for Deathbed during crazy covid times, and much more. it's looking like good things are heading our way from the death camp including a side project and shows on the horizon as well so be sure to follow their pages, give them a listen, and let loose some of those pent-up emotions.EPISODE NOTES:https://instagram.com/deathbedbne?igshid=77dmaf7acf0vhttps://www.facebook.com/deathbedbne/https://deathbedbne.bigcartel.com/https://open.spotify.com/artist/4KbSZ5aTxZ92hYl801gzJv?si=K80_gHh7T3GZRrsoviffUg Hosted on Acast. We were thinking about an hour and a half would be sweet, ended up going an extra hour of shit-talking with a National Tour coming in March, the fingers are well and truly crossed in order for it to go ahead this year as Covid stopped everyone in their tracks. We talk about the craziness of last year and adapting to the changes, Mike's new project ECA supporting Butterfingers on his first tour as well as his other bands and what's in store, the process behind making the beats, and much more. You'll also have a sneak peek at one of Mike Mike's new songs before the actual release date best of luck for the new year fellas! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Jack has been involved in music for a damn long time, it shows with the impressive list of bands he's played for (no doubt I've forgotten a few) This is the kind of normalcy I've grown used to hearing though as being an amazing drummer in Brisbane especially is always in demand. He's also an active supporter at the protests for the release of the refugees from the Kangaroo Point Hotel where over 100 detainees are being held (some up too as long as 8 years) Originally his new Doom band SLUGG planned on debuting their live set at one of the protests but was unfortunately canceled but just recently got the chance to play at Blute's Bar and I totally forgot how bloody loud sludgey doom can be. Expect new tunes and more shows in the future and I highly recommend giving them a watch next time you get the chance to boogie in town.   Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The bright and eccentric JJ enters the studio and great times we're had all round. We get talking about the EP he's currently working on along with with adjusting to isolation life, performing online, talking about the oldies but the goodies and how much influence they really have and so much more. This episode also includes 2 live performances at the end for a nice change up and be sure to follow and keep up to date with JJs adventures. Hosted on Acast. The bright and colourful man behind the noise came in and smashed out 3 hours of tangents out the earholes. We covered everything from world problems, the recent mini documentary Loki was apart of about The Underdog (now Netherworld) where the inspiration comes from, attempting the guiness record for the most playable pedals and literally so much more. Now restrictions are beginning to ease make sure to hassle the guys in Wise Man Say to play a show in a town near you and witness some chaos Hosted on Acast. It felt strange recording in my own bedroom, not in a bad way since distance rather than the virus made that happen, probably more so the fact it was my second attempt at a skype recording and normally I record in the studio. Dreamworm has a fascinating story and the lore behind the band is pretty mindblowing, Harshmellow is a comedic musical combo started by a shared love for art and each other. We talk about coping in crazy times, storytelling in music and so much more. I had such a good time getting to know these two and will always look forward to seeing what they both produce and to see them perform when restrictions start to ease over the country. Be sure to check them out on facebook, instagram, patreon and most other streaming services. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Kenny of King Lears Throne

Kenny of King Lears Throne

2020-05-1002:02:30

Well hot damn it's good to be back. First episode since the craziness of COVID19 had the owner of King Lears Throne aka King of the shit talk Kenny onboard for a chat and it stayed on track relatively early but as you guessed it we talked a lot of shit. Being someone directly affected by the lockdown I wanted to check in and see how the industry is holding up as well as having a chat with such a lovely human being after the lockdown. We talk favourite shows played at his pub, getting the foot in the door and how the other venues are supporting one another. Once this all blows over (safely of course) King lears will be up at running and to quote the man himself "it should be at leassttt 30% better"Songs played include: Gridflex - Eat the Rich Beans on Toast - M.D.M AmazingBeing Jane Lane - Savage SundayAll have played in the tiny confines of King Lears Hosted on Acast. Late1

Late1

Hip hop has never been the genre I go too first but I've never held a grudge, it's thought provoking, catchy and lyrically captivating. With the help of local brisbane legend Late1, we sat down for a few beers to talk about Brisbane's hip hop scene, what seperates his style from the rest, the comradery between other artists and collaborations and plenty more. You can reach out to Late1 through the usual platforms like facebook and Instagram as well as soundcloud and spotify for his music which is fantastic by the way. Couldn't have asked for a better guest to help expand my knowledge of the genre and look forward to see what he gets up too next. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Blussh

Blussh

2020-03-1301:14:39

These girls in the short amount of time being a band have accomplished so much it's mental. Kelly, Stacey & Sophia we're so much fun to have in the studio and definitely appreciate them taking the time to do so ♡ we get to know more about the origins of Blussh, where the journey started, the odd conspiracy here and there and so much more. Catch the girls playing at Sol Bar up the Sunny coast on the 20th of March then at the Greaser bar on the 26th and keep your eyes and ears peeled for what they get up too for the rest of the year. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
I hadn't been to a Thursday night show in a while, of course I picked a rainy night to do so. Absolutely worth it though to catch up with the guys in Cowboys and Injuries, Andy and Nick are such good dudes and I'm a little bummed I couldn't get them in the studio but this is exactly why the live format has come into play. The goldy punks have just dropped a 2 track release on spotify and have more shows and songs coming at you in the near future. The audio does get a little dicey here and there and towards the end the next band starts playing but hey, that's being live for you (also recording off a phone lel) Genuinely can't wait to see what they get up too next so go and give them a follow on all the social media platforms Hosted on Acast. Garlic Nun (Live Episode)

Garlic Nun (Live Episode)

2020-02-0801:05:02

Sometimes guests can't make it in to the studio because of schedules, life, you name it; that's totally okay in this instance I had the chance to meet up with the Garlic Nun boys for a few beers down the road from The Bearded Lady in West End before their show and full disclaimer, the sound won't be the greatest, there's background noise from the markets next door and a lot of back and forth chat it's hard to work out at times, but this is the feel I'm going for and especially more so for this episode. Such a crazy bunch of dudes but absolutely the best kind and their show that night with Blussh The Unknowns and Goon on the Rocks was just mental. If you missed out on seeing them I wouldn't be too bummed I'm sure they'll be back soon and with new tunes. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
You'd think managing a band would be busy enough but apparently not. Karl lends not only that but bass skills to well known punk band The Gastons, runs his own promotion company and also has a seriously cool sounding side project on the way in Meth Teeth. We talk origins, family, the love of music and the passions we draw from it and so much more. Keep an eye out on all three groups Karl's in for 2020, definitely some cool things coming! It's the end of the year, what better way to send it out with the two brothers and good friends from the ever disgusting Decapitated Mum crew ♡ Inbetween all the nonsense we get up too this episode we talk a little about the family dynamic and growing up together listening to the same tunes, the stereotypical brother scraps with each other, secret instrumental skills and what Dmum's plan is for 2020. It's been a good year for music in 2019 so let's keep the ball rolling on to the new decade. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
It's always easy talking to your mates, especially ones you grow up with in your teenage years. From Byron trips to Frenzal Rhomb gigs, Den days to the formation of Goon it's been a wild ride that's for sure. We rehash some of the old days and the history of said 3 bands the fellas play in. 2019 closes up with the Goon boys playing at the Zoo on the 21st of Dec alongside some cracker bands all put on by Punkfest. Party times and good vibes are what Goon and the guys are all about so don't be shy to say hello and always remember to support your local! (TC till Death) Hosted on Acast. The more episodes I record with local musicians, the more bands I find out they play in. Turns out I haven't seen all of Josh's bands play yet but I'll be sure to fix that. Josh is a fantastic artist and incredibly involved within the local scene. We talk about it in this episode along with where the passion of music came from as well as playing in a diverse group of bands and heaps more. I had a wonderful time talking to Josh and you can keep up to date with what he's up too through his band's Facebook and Instagram pages Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Next up is Ash Wallace of Good Call Live and AAA Backstage. As well as studying the entertainment business at JMC Academy, you might catch Ash out in the crowds moshing and working at the same time reviewing the shows for those who couldn't make it out too. We talk about when music began to influence her life, what it's like being able to see and speak to some of your favourite bands and discuss the current initiative by Support Act with the Australian Music Tshirt Day on November 15 which GCL is firmly behind and supporting. An extremely hard worker and so passionate for the scene, if you're ever looking for someone to help cover your shows or interview the best bands around I wouldn't hesitate to give Ash the spot! After some time away from the scene due to the cruelty of life, V is back with a vengeance and this time I don't think the end of the world will stop her. An absolute workhorse and such a passion for music and the artists involved, her and her team at Vamped Up! strive to give the audience the best interviews and exposure for those working tirelessly behind the scenes, even including walkthroughs of venues! Be sure to check out the Vamped Up! website as well as facebook for amazing content and fantastic interviews! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The neverending list of band affiliations for Liam could go on and on, a drummer as talented as him are highly sought after. He is contagiously friendly and such a hard worker and not just with the sticks. With more shows on the horizon and a webseries based on thrash metal in Australia in the works it's getting hard to keep up with what he's doing... take a breather champ, you're making us all look bad. The man, the myth, the big dog Marty from Hey Ho Let's Go on 4ZZZ came in the studio to jam a couple crusty songs for us. Full of energy and a zest for life, we also get to hear a little about his journey, growing up in NZ and eventually coming over to Australia. We talk about how the music helped shape his life, putting on shows and much more. Every Friday/Saturday night from 12am you can catch the giant teddy bear on the airwaves at Hey Ho Let's Go! On 4zzz jamming out only the best songs for you all. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
