Synthaholics Episode 126: Cause and Effect with Joe DePinto live from STLV This week we talk Cause and Effect with Joe DePinto live from STLV. STLV is the Star Trek Las Vegas convention it is the largest Star Trek Con in the United States. Since Joe was still at the convention when we recorded this week he tells us what he has been up to at the con. The stories from the con are great and one of Joe’s favorite episodes is the Star Trek The Next Generation episode Cause and Effect. This is a very fun episode that uses time travel in a new way for its time. If you think this is a copy of Groundhog Day this episode actually came out first! Once we break down the episode we get into a discussion about our experiences with Déjà vu. The talk of Déjà vu makes David think of his fascination with the mandela effect. We go over a few examples of this effect and what the theory of how so many people can have false memories. Synthaholics Episode 125: The Killing Game with Adam Herr This week Aaron and David discuss the Killing Game with Adam Herr. Adam Herr is a member of The Geekiverse and we’ve had different guests from the Geekivers in the past. This week is an extra long episode clocking in at just over two hours because we have about 40 minutes of discussion of news and and rabbit holes. We finally get around to discussing the new SDCC Star Trek Discovery Trailer and get into some of the articles that have been released since SDCC. Once we get past the news we talk about Adam’s favorite episode of Star Trek Voyager The Killing Game! This is a holodeck two parter episode where the Hirogen have taken over Voyager and forced Harry Kim to convert the ship into a giant holodeck. Meanwhile the Hirogen run programs where they can hunt the crew of Voyager over and over again. This is a fun episode as many of the hologram episodes tend to be. There are some strange leaps this episode makes and we have fun getting into all of them. Episode 378: Mission Impossible   Let's take a journey back to the days of yore when movies were shot on film and when Hollywood was doing one of its earlier runs of let's remake old tv shows into movies. The year is 1996 the movie Mission: Impossible. This movie would go on to spawn 7 sequels and the crazy thing is, most of the films have been solidly entertaining. Episode 377: Star Trek First Contact   We are back after an unexpected impromptu summer break. It's been a while since we've touched on Star Trek and since 90% of Brian's Star Trek knowledge comes from lower decks I thought it would be good to have him watch Star Trek First Contact since the film was heavily referenced in one of the episodes of Lower Decks. This strategy seems to have worked so other future Star Trek discussions will likely have a tie into lower decks. Episode 376: Wheel of Time season 3 part 2   With the third season of the Wheel of Time rolling to a close we are able to bring you the second half of our review for the latest season of The Wheel of Time. Season three is a massive improvement upon season one and season two and if seasons one and two were as strong as this season I think we would have known by now if season 4 is green lit. As of this moment the show's fate is in Amazon's hands. With how much the show improved this season we are very much hoping for a fourth season. Episode 374: Wheel of Time Season 3 Part 1   The show loosely based on David's favorite fantasy series The Wheel of Time is back for its third season. This week we will be covering the first half of season three, and this season does not disappoint. Season three feels almost like a brand new show the VFX game has leveled up and while not 100 percent book accurate the show is making strides to more closely adhere to the lore of the source material and that is a welcome change. The Wheel of Time has finally found its legs based on the first half of this season. Let's hope the second half is just as strong. Episode 370: Starship Troopers   The holidays are over but our discussion on Paul Verhoeven is not! This week we got into his big budget sci-fi film Starship Troopers. It is pretty incredible the last few podcasts have been on movies directed by the same man and they are all vastly different and strange in their own way. Going into this David was surprised to find what film of these three is the most rewatchable. Too bad Brain didn't watch the most rewatchable of the three films.
