Benni McCarthy is a true South African football legend. He remains Bafana Bafana’s all-time leading scorer with 31 international goals and is the only South African ever to win the UEFA Champions League, having lifted the trophy with FC Porto in 2004. A decorated striker, he was joint top-scorer at the 1998 African Cup of Nations. In Europe he starred for top clubs – winning titles with Ajax in the Netherlands, and enjoying a “fabled” career at Porto (Champions League 2004) as well as spells at Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United in England.
