Bond University higher degree research students (PhD and MPhil) had three minutes to present a compelling speech on their thesis topic and its significance. 3MT is not an exercise in trivialising research, but forces students to clearly present their research in a way similar to the ‘elevator-pitch’. The 3MT competition is held in universities throughout Australia. The exercise develops academic, presentation, and research communication skills and supports the development of research students' capacity to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience
