What’s happening at 42nd & Center in Omaha? This week on Omaha This Week, we look at the proposed redevelopment of Center Mall and the neighborhood conversation surrounding the future of the longtime Omaha property. We also highlight Collective for Hope, an Omaha nonprofit providing free grief support from its new facility at 8000 Chicago Street, and the Nebraska Humane Society’s Barks & Rec program, which lets people take shelter dogs out for a day, or even longer, and helps give adoptable dogs time outside the shelter. Plus, the Omaha Comedy Festival takes over downtown Omaha September 24–27 with stand-up, improv, magic and special events across 10 venues, including Block 16, The Green Room and The Peregrine. What’s happening in Omaha this week? We’re covering a proposed redevelopment of the Vinton Street grain silos, fall events and activities around the Omaha metro, TreeRush Adventures at Fontenelle Forest, Oktoberfest, local restaurants and a brand-new attraction opening on the Council Bluffs riverfront. We start with the future of the old grain elevator and silos along Vinton Street in Omaha, Nebraska. A redevelopment proposal could demolish much of the familiar industrial landmark to make way for four apartment buildings with 233 market-rate units.
