14 The Lord replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." 15 Then Moses said to him, "If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. 16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?" 17 And the Lord said to Moses, "I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name."   Deepen your journey with this scripture. All around us we observe a pregnant creation. The difficult times of pain throughout the world are simply birth pangs. But it's not only around us; it's within us. The Spirit of God is arousing us within. We're also feeling the birth pangs. These sterile and barren bodies of ours are yearning for full deliverance. That is why waiting does not diminish us, any more than waiting diminishes a pregnant mother. We are enlarged in the waiting. We, of course, don't see what is enlarging us. But the longer we wait, the larger we become, and the more joyful our expectancy. The Message Want a mini-retreat with reflection questions based on the Slow Word scriptures? Then Job replied to the Lord: 2 "I know that you can do all things;     no purpose of yours can be thwarted. 3 You asked, 'Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?'     Surely I spoke of things I did not understand,     things too wonderful for me to know. 4 "You said, 'Listen now, and I will speak;     I will question you,     and you shall answer me.' 5 My ears had heard of you     but now my eyes have seen you." Psalm 84:4-7 Blessed are those who dwell in your house;     they are ever praising you.a]">[a] 5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you,     whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. 6 As they pass through the Valley of Baka,     they make it a place of springs;     the autumn rains also cover it with pools.b]">[b] 7 They go from strength to strength,     till each appears before God in Zion.   Join patreon.com/thepresenceproject to go deeper. This short, two-phrase lectio divina gives us a chance to dwell with our eternal God, allowing the Lord to imprint us with the image of a refuge.
Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.
