Description

Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Hypnotist, Change Worker and Life Coach. She’s known for her dynamic storytelling, her sense of humor, her Boston accent and her no-bullshit approach to Spirituality and transformational work.

She’s been a yoga teacher for 24+ years, is a Certified Gateless Writing Instructor, and is also an author, speaker, retreat leader and the host of The Karen Kenney Show podcast.

A curious human being, life-long learner and an entrepreneur for 20+ years, KK brings a down-to-earth perspective to applying spiritual principles and brain science that create powerful shifts in people’s lives and businesses.

She works with people individually one-to-one, and offers a collective learning experience via group experiences. She supports both the conscious and unconscious mind by combining practical Neuroscience, Subconscious Reprogramming, Integrative Hypnosis, and Spiritual Mentorship. These tools help clients regulate their nervous systems, remove blocks, rewrite stories, rewire beliefs, and reimagine what’s possible!

Karen wants her clients to have their own lived experience with spirituality and to not just “take her word for it”. She encourages people to deepen their personal connection to Self, Source and Spirit in tangible, relatable, and actionable ways without losing sight of the magic.

Her process called: “Your Story To Your Glory” helps people to shift from an old thought system of fear to one of Love - using compassion, un-shaming, laughter and humor, her work is effective, efficient, and it’s also wicked fun!

KK’s been a student of A Course in Miracles for close to 30 years, has been vegan for over 20 years, and believes that a little kindness can go a long way and make a miraculous difference.

Have you ever heard the statement, “I'm about to go all ‘woo, woo’ on you”? I was thinking to myself the other day, “Why does everybody feel the need to apologize for the “woo”?” Why do people lead with a warning, like; “OK, so I'm about to go all ‘woo’, on you” as if all the adults in the room need to prepare themselves or perhaps they couldn't handle it. It’s as if we have some sort of fear that others will not take us seriously (as a leader or a business person or whatever) or that we’ll be judged for trusting our intuition, discussing spirituality or leading with love. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re looking at the reasons why we should stop saying sorry for opening up spiritually with others. When we apologize or give them a warning for what we’re about to say, we’re sending out a signal that people should somehow be ashamed and uncomfortable about their spirituality and personal growth. The thing is, we’re all children of God/Universe and we all have intuition & gut feelings, etc. - that makes us spiritual beings that are an extension of the loving Divine. We are Spirit having a human experience. Our whole life is our spiritual life and as I jokingly say, “It’s not “woo-woo, it’s true-true.” Ha! So maybe it’s time to stop apologizing for it, start embracing it and share it openly with the world. KK's Key Takeaways Apologizing For The Woo (2:24) Dwell In The Land Of Love (7:45) Get To Know Yourself (12:40) Making A Lot Of Money But They Are Unhappy (17:08) Trust Your Gut (20:18) Willing To Go Deep (24:38) Karen Kenney is a writer, speaker, spiritual teacher, host of The Karen Kenney Show Podcast, founder of Fearless Flow™ Mentoring & creator of THE NEST Spiritual Membership. One of the challenges of being human is that the ego-mind automatically leads with its opinions, judgements, and stories that will either build others up or more likely tear them down. It has no neutral thoughts and it’s almost always sure that it’s right and because of this, we think we know and understand where someone else is coming from. We write stories, apply meaning and assign ourselves the role of judge and jury. What we learn however, as we move through life is that we actually don’t know the whole picture or truth when it comes to others. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about having the willingness to let go of our judgements and allowing our preconceived ideas to fall away. It’s an invitation to practice being more kind. We honestly never really know what someone else has gone or is going through. We don’t know what their reality is or what it’s like to be them. We can’t possibly even begin to understand until we have a willingness to get personal, listen and talk to others about these things. It’s not always an easy task to set aside our perspectives and opinions - but the only way we’re going to get through this life together - is if we put down our judgements, lead with curiosity and love, step up as instruments of peace and Be Kind, Be Kind, Be Kind. “You need to be special!” is a message that we’re constantly being bombarded with when it comes to our personal and professional social media presence. This is especially true as entrepreneurs and business owners in the digital age. We’ve been taught that amongst a sea of people, profiles and posts - it's essential to our success - that we not only have an online presence and platform, but that we must also have a strategy for “standing out”. But what if that approach is wrong? What if we’re causing both ourselves and our business unnecessary suffering in the relentless pursuit of trying to “stand out” on social media? How much suffering are we humans willing to cause ourselves in our need to be special, seen or have significance? Today on The Karen Kenney Show, I sat down to talk with super-smarty pants business coach Bill Baren about how much energy we waste trying to answer the ego’s call to specialness and just how freeing it can be to embrace our insignificance in the world. Plus, we discuss and explore the power and joy of trusting your intuition and your Spiritual Team to guide you and keep you on the path that you’re meant to be on.     KK's Key Takeaways Insignificant Speck In The Universe (3:12) Betrayal To Ourselves (13:57) Permission To Break The Rules (18:33) Set Of Personal Guidelines (23:27) Stop The Madness (28:03) Internal Stabilizers (31:00) Meeting with Curiosity (35:49) I Could Be Gone Tomorrow (40:04)   Bill Baren was the Chief Executive Officer of The Big Shift LLC and the Chief Product Officer of Empowered Education. Stay In Your Own Lane

Stay In Your Own Lane

2020-11-1243:05

The term “stay in your own lane” can mean different things to different people and we’re going to dive into a couple of ways of looking at this. Most of the time as adults, when we say “Stay in your lane” - it’s to tell others to stay out of our business or to keep the focus on what they themselves are doing. Just like when we were little kids and the teachers would advise us, “Keep your eyes on your own paper!” (Who else remembers that?) Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that there aren’t any instances where we should speak up, cross a line and say something about an incident/photo/picture that we see online or physically take action when we see an injustice. There are definitely times we need to step out of our lane and do something to bring about necessary change or to stop abuse of others whether they be animals, humans or the environment. But for the most part, especially online, it would behoove us to practice shutting our mouths and moving on. Another way of interpreting “stay in your own lane”, is stick to what you know and stick to what you're good at. Don’t try to pretend to be what I call “a four-lane highway.” Ha! Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about minding our own damn business & if you do have a business, to know what you’re actually qualified to offer and practice. Like it says in a Course of Miracles ‘You cannot teach what you have not yet accepted for yourself”. How can we expect to direct anyone towards anything that we have not yet consistently practiced in our own lives? Without our own personal life experiences to base our reflections, wisdom or feedback on, we have nothing to inform others with. We don’t know what it feels like to perhaps be in their position. Of course, we can always learn about other skills and have new experiences in the world but until we do have something of depth to contribute it might be best to stay in our own lane. In doing so, we can avoid doing more harm than good to those around us. KK's Key Takeaways  Stick To What You’re Good At (8:25) I Really Try To Stay In My Lane (17:16) Standing In Confidence Doesn’t Make Me Right (26:41) Attend To Our Own Business (31:55) Be Curious (35:20) You Can Do More Damage (39:12) Karen Kenney is a writer, speaker, spiritual teacher, host of The Karen Kenney Show Podcast, founder of Fearless Flow™ Mentoring & creator of THE NEST Spiritual Membership. Criticism vs. Feedback

Criticism vs. Feedback

2020-11-0536:57

There’s a quote I heard that I’ve been contemplating that says how people should, “Praise in public & critique in private.” I’ve got a few thoughts now on this point of view and one of the things that informed me in my mulling and musing about it is an even older saying that tells us that “our words should pass through 3 gates before we ever write them or speak them out loud.” Before we open our big fat mouths (ha!) and utter a word, we should ask ourselves: Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary? When we’re dealing with one-to-one communication with human beings, it would behoove us to have our first thought be, “What is the most loving or kind way I can handle this?” And then proceeding by sometimes speaking about their strengths first, before talking about where growth needs to happen. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we are taking a look at the differences between criticism versus feedback and how we can be working this on either side of that fence. Whether that be externally with those around us or how we internally speak to ourselves. Whomever we are speaking to, we must first understand that our words matter. An approach of curiosity and love instead of judgement allows us to ask the kind of questions that open the doors of thought, inspiration and insight. Rather than eliciting a response of attack, defend or prove. This isn’t always the easiest road to travel because sometimes our input means that others (and even ourselves) have to take a look at painful spots we’d rather not deal with and prefer to ignore. Having a level of tenderness in our approach helps to, at the very least, make the process bearable and something we can face more willingly. Being mindful and intentional in our communication will help us to create a more loving, kind world where people can feel supported, seen and know that they matter.   KK's Key Takeaways Gateless Instructor (2:04) Your Words Should Pass (4:05) Passive Aggressive (12:03) We Need More Tenderness (21:00) Is It Loving? With the world being how it is in this moment, now is not the time to stick our heads in the sand. If you are here on the planet right now, I believe it’s for a reason and a greater purpose. Sometimes, we need to turn to our Spiritual Team to help figure out what that is. When we find ourselves in situations where we feel overwhelmed, defeated, scared, anxious or worried it’s helpful to remember the words of Clarissa Pinkola Estés; “We Were Made For These Times”. I believe that our lives have been preparing us for this moment. Sometimes, if you feel not up to the task, we can call upon the strength of the Divine, our Inner Teacher and our Spiritual Team to help us to “act well and wisely”. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about knowing and stepping into our purpose. What are we adding to the world around us? What is it that we are bringing to the table? Each voice matters and I want to encourage you to use yours with the support of your Spiritual Team. From the loss of a younger sister in a car accident by a drunk driver, to finding & fighting the cancer of her then 2 year old son, my guest has experienced some of life’s most painful experiences. Through it all she has found a way to connect with others and build community where there was none. The Social Dilemma

The Social Dilemma

2020-10-1534:46

Social media has a grip on society and it’s changing the way we interact with each other and even ourselves. The addiction to using it, getting those likes and views are at a concerning level with dire consequences to our human connections and psyche. This is especially true with teenage girls and young women who are up over 300% in anxiety, depression and suicide rates since the introduction of social media platforms.  Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we are taking a look at a documentary called; “The Social Dilemma” and the effect of social media on the world population and its interactions with one another. The major player tech giants such as; Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Google and Twitter have manipulated and worked to rewire the human brain through their data tracking, algorithms, and  by giving out gamification dopamine responses to our interactions online. Of course this doesn’t mean that being online is all bad, but it comes down to being self and socially aware of exactly what it looks like and what we’re all playing a part in. Are we addicted to these platforms and allowing these tech giants to boldly manipulate us or are we really in control of our actions and reactions. There comes a point in this Social Dilemma where we have to ask; what’s my level of participation going to be? KK's Key Takeaways Dopamine Responses (3:50) Gamification (9:23) Designed To Keep Us Looking (14:36) We Are Being Spoon Fed (20:23) Not Standing Outside My Castle (24:06)   Karen Kenney is a writer, speaker, spiritual teacher, host of The Karen Kenney Show Podcast, founder of Fearless Flow™ Mentoring & creator of THE NEST Spiritual Membership. Our internal peace of mind and happiness are extremely important to our overall well being. In order to find that for ourselves we have to stop and take the time to really look at where it is that we came from and heal the wounds of our past. The truth is it doesn’t matter how we got here, we are here and who we are because of it; belongs to us. It is a part of who we are right down to the core. The question then now must be “what are we going to do with where we came from now that we have arrived in this place today of our lives today?” How are we going to react or respond to the different scenarios we find ourselves in? Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we are taking a look at who it is we used to be and who it is we can be. It is not always an easy journey. It requires effort, work and sometimes painful steps. I wasn’t always this way myself but after years of working on healing my past wounds and  training my mind and heart how to tie into a deep connection with the Divine I find myself more available and open to living in a happier state of being. This does not mean I never take notice of the darkness in this world but because of this healing I am able to not allow myself to live in it. It is not always sunshine and rainbows every day because there is no such thing as earthly perfection but there can be a level of happiness that can be achieved every day if we are only willing to do the hard and difficult work on ourselves that is required to get there.   KK's Key TakeawaysYounger, Tortured, Traumatized, Suffering Self (8:33) I Have TO Try Everything First (13:49) I Work With Wounded Kids (22:28) You Are On Fire (29:57) It’s Not Always Easy (36:50)   Karen Kenney is a writer, speaker, spiritual teacher, host of The Karen Kenney Show Podcast, founder of Fearless Flow™ Mentoring & creator of THE NEST Spiritual Membership. In our lives we’re often looking for consistency. We want to know that we can count on certain things to be available to us or have particular people show up for us - whether that be in our personal, spiritual or professional lives. Where there’s reliability & responsibility - there’s trust - and relationships can start to build on that foundation of faith. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about how the consistency of showing up and taking inspired action - plays a huge role in the success in our lives. It’s not enough to just sit back on our ass in our comfy belief that because we’ve asked our Spiritual Team to help us they will. I mean, of course they will, but we as the individual have to step up and do our part We have to be willing to move our feet forward and do the damn work. Ha! We have to turn on the lights, show up for ourselves and others and be the reliable source of support & action in the world that we also want for our own. In this world, there are a lot of reasons why we find ourselves tempted to go into a contracted state of being. A place we want to tuck into for protection. This pulled in, tightened up reaction creates a realm of separation - where we not only feel removed from the love of those around us - but also from the true essence of who we are meant to be.   This ego conditioning limits our ability to love and be loved. When we’re wrapped up so tightly in our fear, we can’t expand into the wholeness and holiness of ourselves.   Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about the difference between Contraction & Expansion as it pertains to our human experience. Are we joining relationships & spaces where we have the room to grow and expand? Or are we living in a “closed fist” state of being? A contracted state of mind, limits our capacity to give or receive love. It can take us out at the knees and leaves us feeling hurt, angry, victimized and damaged. Instead, what if we met ourselves and each other with openness and curiosity, instead of being closed and judgemental? So, no more “saran-wrapping” ourselves. No more tucking our tails & clenching our fists. Instead, let’s choose to move into the spaces of expansion and Divine Love. It’s time to spread our tail feathers and fully embrace & embody the child of God we really are. Are you ready to create more expansion in your life? The Power of The Pause

The Power of The Pause

2020-09-1045:14

My meditation teacher taught me that a mind that moves too fast does not have the ability to love. WHOA! A mind that is unable to slow down, pause and choose its response, will find itself running around and reacting to life. Reacting is a kind of an automated fear-based trigger that stems from our past experiences and conditioned thinking. It keeps our minds stuck in the ego-loop and at the mercy of our immediate emotions and feelings. How we speak and act is generated by our thoughts and if we don’t train our mind to have the capability to stop and question what it is that we think we’re seeing and hearing before we can make a conscious choice as to how we want to “respond”, we just might find ourselves reacting; saying and doing things we regret and can’t really take back. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about the Power of the Pause and how just a few seconds to think before hitting go can make all the difference in the world. KK's Key Takeaways Practice The Pause (2:00) That’s Where The Magic Is (10:35) Damage Is Already Done (19:18) Go Back To My Right Mind (29:07) Remember To Pause & Pray (39:45) Karen Kenney is a writer, speaker, spiritual teacher, host of The Karen Kenney Show Podcast, founder of Fearless Flow™ Mentoring & creator of THE NEST Spiritual Membership. Most people in this world want to be liked and accepted. But the truth is… sometimes in life, no matter what we do or say, certain people are just not going to like us. For whatever reason, they’re simply not a fan (HA!) and if we resist this fact, it can be extremely draining, mentally and emotionally, trying to contort ourselves into who or how they would prefer us to be. If we keep looking outside of ourselves, for validation, wanting everybody to like us, understand us or to celebrate us, we are going to be murderously disappointed. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about “people pleasing”. That soul-sucking, exhausting racket that will only work to break us down and make us resentful of others. It’s time to stop wasting your energy trying to be liked by everybody else and work on loving ourselves. In order to live as God/Divine/Spirit intended us to be, we have to be willing to write our own authentic story, where we step out of the box the world tries to put us in and live the glory that is our true destiny. KK's Key Takeaways Looking Outside For Validation (1:59) Why Don’t They Like Me? Something Stinks

Something Stinks

2020-08-2737:47

OK, so this might seem like a total no-brainer, but it’s something that my Spiritual Team recently gave me a hysterical & humbling reminder about ----> We cannot fix a problem until we can clearly identify who, what or where the source of the problem is coming from. Until then, we’ll just keep throwing away our precious resources; money, time, energy and exhaust ourselves in the process of trying to fix, help, find or heal. Today on The Karen Kenney Show we’re asking the simple but powerful question; “What the heck stinks?” and taking a closer look at what’s required to figure that out, in our personal or professional lives. Then we can seek out the true source and get to work, so that the physical, mental or emotional “stench” won’t continue to follow us around or haunt us. This may include taking a deeper, sometimes painful look within ourselves to get to the bottom of the issue: Are we the cause of our own suffering? Or is it really someone or something else in our lives? No matter what or who is the source of the problem; before we can deal with it or in order to heal it, we must first get real about it and admit that something here isn’t right - “Something Stinks”. KK's Key Takeaways Something Stinks (2:43) Right In Front Of Our Face (9:07) Sometimes You Can Be So Sure (17:46) Helpful To Have Others With You (22:31) In The Vegetable Bowl (30:25)   Karen Kenney is a writer, speaker, spiritual teacher, host of The Karen Kenney Show Podcast, founder of Fearless Flow™ Mentoring & creator of THE NEST Spiritual Membership. Sometimes in life we find ourselves feeling lost, confused or “discombobulated” (that’s such a great word - HA!) when stepping into a new area of our life where we become the “complete beginner” again. This experience of the unknown can leave us feeling as if everything we’ve built and created before this moment is falling away and we find ourselves unable to see a way home to our true way of being. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, I talk with my dear friend Bill Baren, “The Business Oracle” and we take a look at the fears that keep us from being real with others, the pathway back to freedom and the 3 Steps to take When Things Are Falling Apart. In this world today (especially with the presence of social media) we’re constantly being asked to be noticed, to stand out and to prove ourselves so that we can appear or feel “special”. We create, write, post and share stuff “out there” - which leads us into a constant state of wanting or having to be validated by others. This whole separation & specialness “dog & pony show” that we participate in... is the playground/battleground of the ego. And it’s a racket... that almost always ends in some kind of suffering. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about getting stuck in the habit of looking to others (outside of ourselves) in order to know or believe how good of a person we are, how valuable our ideas/work/creativity/services/products are or and why we deserve to be loved. What we need to understand is that sometimes we’re going to have people in our lives that don’t get us, don’t understand our mission or where it is that we’re coming from or going to. People will sometimes resist your growth, your change, your pivot or your vision. They might even try to hold you back, get in your way or withhold their support and love. And that’s exactly when you need to step up, grab the stamp & validate your own parking. Who’s At Your Table?

Who’s At Your Table?

2020-08-0633:23

Who we choose to have sitting “at our table” works to influence how we feel, how we act and the decision process of choices that we move ourselves through. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about all things wonderfully geek (HA!); Merlin, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table as they pertain to our own life and our powerful and influential table of 12. Like King Arthur, we too have our own “tables” with spots to fill. Those very important seats determine our circle of influence and for this reason should be very carefully & thoughtfully given. These are the people that are going to lead us in the right direction that we’re destined to travel. They should also be the ones that aren’t afraid to call us out on our bullsh*t and lift us up out of the valley, when we can’t see the light at the top of the mountain. It’s not just about filling the seats with bodies and for this reason, not everyone we know should or will make the cut. It’s about really knowing the people around us honestly & intimately enough, that we can see their strengths, their genius and their value. We understand and appreciate them, but even more so we love them & we trust them. So when choosing our 12 - we really only want the perfect fit to sit down. Once determined who the seats belong to and what they’re “bringing to the table”, we extend to them a personal invitation that they get to claim or deny. If they accept, their name “gets engraved” on that seat. Who are you inviting to your table? KK's Key Takeaways Who Was Chosen To Sit At The Table? Imposter Syndrome

Imposter Syndrome

2020-07-3053:16

Sometimes in our lives, we carry this fear that we’ll never live up to the vision that we hold for ourselves in our heads or our hearts. As much as we’d love to be that person we envision inside, the fear of being judged or called out as a “fraud” by other people - can be so great - that it holds us back from going after our dreams. The truth is, it can be wicked hard for people who knew or know us in our everyday ordinary life, whether they be the people we either grew up with, our siblings, our parents or our past teachers, whoever it is, to see our “extraordinary” in their everyday plain, old ordinary box that they try to put or keep us in. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about “Imposter Syndrome” and how the paralyzing fear it brings has been strong enough to make many writers, entrepreneurs, artists and creatives from all walks of life all stop dead in their tracks. No one wants to be seen as a fraud, phony, fake or poser but it helps to understand that that fear is only alive and well in our heads ---> because we choose to believe it. We give away our power to the ego and to others AND we can take that sh*t back! HA! This episode is an encouragement to not let the self-imposed limitations of your ego and the inability of other people to “see” what’s right in front of them - keep you from following your dream! We must not let the doubt of our accomplishments stop us from fulfilling Our Divine Assignment. Never forget who you really are & to whom you belong. Consistent Effort

Have you ever tried to make progress in some area of your life? Maybe you wanted to break an old habit, or move ahead in your work or craft, get better at a specific skill or just simply improve your ability to sit your ass down & get quiet for meditation practice. Ha! As a spiritual mentor, I talk to a lot of people who are trying to transform something in some way. Many times, I find that they’re stuck in what we call the “victim loop” of their stories. As humans, one thing that I know to be true is that “repetition is the mother of all learning” in both helpful and harmful ways.  Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about what it takes to make significant improvement or lasting change in our lives. Whether that be something we want to learn, a life situation we want to change, that extra weight we want to lose or a relationship we want to build; they all take consistent effort. We have to stop expecting consistent good results from half-ass inconsistent efforts. Ha! If we truly want to change, it’s time to do the daily work so we can see the results we desire.
