This is the second in a series of "chill sessions". These are usually shorter than most episodes, maybe sometimes more poignant, but still encompassing the endurance lifestyle. What is perspective? As defined, perspective is the state of one's ideas, the facts known to them, etc., in having a meaningful relationship. Note: Song intro/backing/outro is a song I've written titled, Depth (Remix). This is the first in a series of "chill sessions". These are usually shorter than most episodes, maybe sometimes more poignant, but still encompassing the endurance lifestyle.Quite honestly, human beings can be quite the selfish and self-righteous bunch. Often, we believe the world (or life) owes us something; or if something goes wrong, we look for anything or anyone to blame, before looking at ourselves.Note: Song intro/backing/outro is a song I've written titled, "Learn the Way". I want you to get these three letters in your head: QTR. What does this seemingly random acronym even mean?Note: Song intro/backing/outro is a song I've written titled, "Summer's End". Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
As a species, we feed off of our surroundings. The uglier, more hateful, negative, etc. they are, whether internally or externally (or both); it affects all of us. Think of it this way. If a child grows up in a home where there is only loud arguing and violent outbursts, etc.; he/she will carry this with them throughout their days (and at some point, will more than likely, act out in a similar manner). Our nurturing/surroundings create our physical, mental and spiritual being. Note: Song intro/backing/outro is a song I've written titled, "Imagine a Day". Hosted on Acast. Every day throughout our decision making, interactions, etc. there are two creatures battling inside you. Since I love sharks, I’ll pick them as the allusion for this battle. You can pick whatever creature you like (cats, dogs, wolves, etc.). Who wins? That depends. Who should win? That’s a non-starter. That answer should be obvious, but is very elusive to our species more often than not. So, let’s learn and discover a little about ourselves shall we?Note: Song intro/backing/outro is a song I've written titled, "Outside Looking In". Hosted on Acast. This podcast is piggybacking with a recent episode entitled “Root Destruction.” That one deals with a very important concept regarding enduring, physical and mental health. We’re going to go deeper with the roots (so to speak . . . get it? deeper/roots!). First things first; we’re human and we do indeed sink in a body of water.Note: The intro/backing/outro track is a musical composition of mine titled, Swept Away. Hosted on Acast. It's important to remain aware of what type of motivators are running your day to day life. Are you being led by extrinsic motivations? Or, are your days focused on what intrinsically motivates you? While there is nothing adherently wrong with extrinsic motivations, be conscious of extrinsic overload.Note: The intro/outro/backing track is a composition of mine titled Depth. Hosted on Acast. As defined, an agenda is an underlying often ideological plan or program. Sounds kind of fancy, but not really. You see . . . each and every person who comes your way (in person, through media, etc.) wants something from you. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Children (and adults) need to build their resiliency armor. Just like your muscles are not going to grow without putting great stress on them (exercising); your resiliency coat of armor needs to be built. Unfortunately, this armor is often built through adversity. Not running from it; not being saved from it; not being coddled from it . . . but by gritting your teeth and ENDURING through it! IT TAKES WORK!(Backing Track created by Chris Haugen) Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Japanese beetle is a highly destructive plant pest that can be very difficult and expensive to control. From a personal standpoint, if we look closely enough, we all have our own Japanese beetle festering within our psyche.Note: The intro/outro/backing track is a composition of mine titled Willow Breeze. Much of enduring what life brings our way can be made more manageable through the simple aspect of truly breathing. Honestly . . . if you can control your breathing, you can control your mind; and if you can control your mind . . . look out. Breathing properly is the link to truly thriving and excelling through this crazy life here on earth. Note: The intro/outro/backing track is a composition of mine titled Breathe. Hosted on Acast. Whether racing, teaching, or simply living . . . it's a mathematical certainty that a change in course will be required at some point. While a simple "one-way" road would be nice and simple; the reality is that we are required to navigate intricate turns, bridges, roadblocks, closures . . . well, that's enough of the metaphors. You get the idea. Be ready for change when the time comes.Note: The intro/outro/backing track is a composition of mine titled Balance. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

I wasn't sure what direction this episode was going to take. You see, I invited my first guest (Michigan High School Hall of Fame Football Coach, Tony Patritto) to come and share his endurance thoughts with me. Once the episode/interview was over, the word "sincerity" came to my mind. That my friends is what I believe Tony Patritto's answers all entail . . . sincerity and integrity. Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. Ah, the wonder of value.-It can be a noun: The value of the painting is remarkable.-It can be a verb: I value your opinion.Actually, it comes from the Latin origin from Latin valere meaning “be worth”.However my friends, were going to go with values simple meaning in its noun form: the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or usefulness of something. We’re going deep here my friends. I’m not talkng the deep end of the pool. I’m talking the deepest depths of the ocean. Buckle your seat belt and keep hands and arms inside this podcast vehicle at all times. This episode is actually piggybacking off my most recent newsletter to Teach4Endurance subscribers: The Writing On the Wall. However, this concept and its underlying meanings just won’t let me go at the moment. I feel the need to share more and thereby, hopefully make you all think deeply on your own levels and in your own comfort zones. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode of Teach4Endurance, let's take a unique approach by drawing lessons from a chapter in my book, Teach4Endurance: Surviving the Swim, Bike, and Run In Today's Classroom. Inspired by the chapter "Peripheral," we delve into the importance of being aware of what's around us, not just what's directly in front of us. Using the past global situation with COVID-19 as an "ultimate classroom setting," we can reflect on how society's focus on immediate gains has led us to miss crucial warnings from Mother Nature. With engaging anecdotes from racing, life, and world events, the podcast challenges listeners to prioritize health, empathy, and environmental responsibility. Tune in for a thought-provoking conversation that encourages proactive action and a reevaluation of what truly matters in life.Note: The intro/outro/backing track is a composition of mine titled Victorious. In this episode of Teach4Endurance, we explore the powerful concept of personal destiny and its application in both endurance racing and education. Drawing from my experience as both an Ironman triathlete and educator, I challenge the notion of one-size-fits-all approaches to success. Through some personal anecdotes about defying conventional training wisdom in completing three Ironman races, I create a compelling parallel to the current state of professional development in education. This episode questions why we let others dictate our paths when we know ourselves best, whether it's in training for a triathlon or growing as an educator. Join me for an inspiring discussion about taking control of your own destiny and the importance of self-directed growth in both athletic and professional pursuits.Note: The musical track is a song of mine called This Is the Life.
