Jacob #3 - Jacob meets his match in Laban, who tricks him repeatedly. Yet God remains faithful to His promises. Jacob #2 - In this passage, Jacob must leave his home in the promised land after tricking his brother, Esau, into selling him his birthright and stealing Esau’s blessing from Isaac for himself. Now, Jacob is facing poverty and danger instead of the power and prosperity that he was promised. In this moment where everything is going wrong for him, Jacob meets with God. He sees that there is a connection between Heaven and earth and that through His angels, God provides for and protects his people. This is still true today. God sees you and cares about you, even when you are at your lowest point. And God still invites us to meet with Him today - through Jesus. Abraham #3 - Sometimes following Jesus can feel like it is costing us greatly. We can start to doubt if God’s promises to those who love Him will be true for us. In today’s Bible passage, Abraham doubts the promises God has made him. God is gentle and kind and reassures Abraham by establishing a covenant with him. And God extends a new covenant promise to us through Jesus Christ. Jesus dies in our place so that we can have a new covenant relationship with God, like Abraham did. All we have to do is believe. Abraham #2 - In this passage, Abraham and Lot represent two ways we can live. Abraham’s faith in God and His promises allows him to give up his right to choose the land he settles in. He gifts the choice to Lot. Lot makes the best decision he can for himself based on what he thinks looks good. Will we live according to God’s wisdom, even when it seems like we are losing out? We can live for the good of others and in peace because God promises to work things out for the good of those who love Him. And God always keeps His promises. In the Beginning #5 - In this passage, God tells Abraham to leave his home and follow. Through his obedience, Abraham is blessed to be a blessing to the whole world.
