-Missed Opportunity- I love sharing conversations. Hosting requires show prep. My podcasting platforms feature thousands of guests. What you don’t have access to are the missed opportunities. The show prep was completed. The conversation didn’t happen. I keep all my notes! Paths will cross again. Let me explain Missed Opportunity. It’s my questions and statements without their answers. I’m leaving open enough space at the end of each question hoping they’ll download the talk and insert their answers.Missed Opportunity is a lost piece of history. Like a message in a bottle tossed out to sea. I hope to locate a destination… This week we’re putting focus on my missed opportunity with singer songwriter Ashley Bryant from season 25 of NBC’s The Voice. Missed Opportunity. A lost piece of history. You know the questions. Let’s locate the reactions. The door is always open. If you are or know Ashley Brynt please reach out to me at arroec@gmail.com that’s arroec@gmail.com Be brilliant!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.
THE ROYAL WE is a poetic survey of a time set in a magical city that once was and is no more. It is a memoir written by Roddy Bottum, a musician and artist, that documents his coming of age and out of the closet in 1980s San Francisco, a charged era of bicycle messengers, punk rock, street witches, wheatgrass, and rebellion. The book follows his travels from Los Angeles, growing up gay with no role models, to San Francisco, where he formed Faith No More and went on to tour the world relentlessly, surviving heroin addiction and the plight of AIDS, to become a queer icon. The book is an elevated wallop of tongue and insight, much more than a tell-all. There are personal encounters with public figures like Kurt and Courtney and Guns N' Roses, and recaps of gold records and arena rock- but it's the testimonies of tragedy and addiction and preposterous life-spins that make this work so unique and intriguing. Bottum writes about his dark and harrowing past in a clear-eyed voice that is utterly devoid of self pity, and his emboldened and confident pronouncements of achievement and unorthodox heroism flow in an unstoppable train that's both captivating and inspirational.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.
Author, inventor, and co-writer of the iconic Star Trek episode “The Tholian Web,” Chester L. Richards continues his acclaimed Treks Beyond the Great Potato memoir series with "The Trek Continues: More Memoirs of a Rocket Scientist," releasing worldwide October 7, 2025.In this second volume, Richards expands on the journey he began in From the Potato to Star Trek and Beyond, blending pulse-pounding adventure with poignant reflections on life, love, and loss. From near-death experiences with crocodiles in Africa to a white-knuckle flight back home in California, The Trek Continues dives deep into the real-life escapades of a man who helped imagine the universe onscreen—and then went out and lived it.Richards shares what it meant to survive, to grieve, and to grow. Central to the memoir is his late wife Sarah, a brilliant and spirited presence readers first glimpsed in Book 1. Responding to fan letters asking to learn more about her, Richards infuses this new collection with her voice, her stories, and the extraordinary impact she had on his life. There are also stories of eccentric animals (including cats, a dog named Hector, and a horse—almost), scientific breakthroughs in aerospace and on earth, close calls with Neolithic tribes, and the unexpected wisdom of failure.“Every story is a letter of love to Sarah,” Richards writes. “Each stand on its own. Each is an adventure. And each is true.”Known for his witty, self-deprecating style and cinematic detail, Richards proves again that memoir can be both thrilling and intimate. A scientist by training and adventurer by instinct, he invites readers to see life not as a linear path—but as a series of treks, each one worth telling.“Adventure starts when your gut clenches and you do it anyway,” says Richards. “That’s when you find out who you really are.”The Trek Continues: More Memoirs of a Rocket Scientist is published by Pawpress. The book is now available in paperback, hardcover, and eBook for pre-order on Amazon. Advanced review copies may be requested through NetGalley. Set over the course of a single summer day, POOLS is a retelling of a classic coming-of-age story. The film balances dark humor with tension, using its contained setting to amplify character and mood rather than spectacle. The cast is led by Odessa A’zion (Marty Supreme) in a striking supporting role. The film is directed by Sam Hayes, who recently discussed POOLS during a live appearance on CBS Chicago this morning. The film celebrated its TVOD release earlier this month, will screen in London on January 16th, and has been invited to the Oscars and Director’s Guild FYC apps at a discounted rate, reflecting strong respect within the industry.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.
I’m always asking questions. The fun begins when you start researching for answers. Such as… How important is it to reflect? Is it breaking the rules of trying to live in the present? Pod Crashing episode 428 with Maggie Freleng from the podcast Bone Valley Season 3 Mayfield is a small town in Kentucky with a population of only 10,000. In an era marked by overwhelming busyness, rising loneliness, and a profound sense of disconnection exacerbated by social media, many Americans are craving deeper, more meaningful relationships. Even with friends, partners, and family nearby, the fear of burdening others often keeps us isolated, creating a cycle of exhaustion. In KIN: The Future of Family (Atria Books; on sale November 11, ISBN 9781668060650, $29.00), popular writer and New Yorker cartoonist Sophie Lucido Johnson offers a fresh and hopeful response to today’s loneliness epidemic. Blending personal stories with sharp social science, KIN uncovers how the relationships we build beyond the nuclear family can provide emotional support, physical care, and shared resources necessary to survive and thrive in modern life.Johnson illustrates how people are inventing new ways to create communities of care: from living with roommates later in life, to co-parenting with friends, to simply asking for help with errands without feeling guilty. Through these examples and her own experiences, Johnson offers accessible, actionable steps for readers to cultivate their own kinship networks and break free from seclusionBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.
