Then you will love hearing Julia's story of what led her to do exactly that, and how she continues to be a full time long distance backpacker.  Julia, aka Rocket, is on the trail right now, backpacking the Continental Divide, and I was lucky enough to sit down with her a few days before she left.  Julia is a full time adventure lover and long distance backpacker. Join me for a sweet and lively discussion with author and self proclaimed woman with moxie, Lori Brooks.  Lori is an accomplished/published writer and photographer, and was not a hiker prior to the journey she outlines in her book. Lori published her first memoir in February 2020. Her memoir covers a landmark and poignant slice of time in her life. On the edge of her 59th birthday Lori experienced an awakening on a solo hike in Death Valley National Park, which led to a divinely gifted idea of hiking her way to her 60th birthday, with no other agenda than to transform her health. It became known as the Sixty60 Journey, 60 hikes to 60 years. What actually transpired in that year and beyond is what she calls her "Unintended Positive Consequences of Hiking" also the title of her memoir. Lori shares many aspects of her story with me, from comical to grief laden experiences, in our talk together. She offers practical advice for anyone looking to transform their health or try something new and adventurous.  Enjoy this episode and hopefully we will see you on the trail! Settle in for this fantastic episode with Wendie Taylor. I loved her approach of incorporating intuitive eating and the idea of adding more instead of restricting.  Wendie Taylor, MBA, RDN is registered dietitian and food/body image coach. She is working to redefine the stereotypical ideal of a “dietitian”.  She works with women to find freedom from "diet brain" and helps navigate them in their journey to Unlearn everything about dieting and uncover their inner intuitive eater!   She loves helping women that feel trapped by dieting and the scale.  Her mission is to help them to improve their relationship with their body and food so they live and be the women they were created to be. Wendie has a holistic and well rounded approach to physical and mental health and how food factors in to our lives and mindsets. We talked about her food personality quiz and I highly recommend you take it! Turns out I am a "no shame eater", which works well for me because in all honesty, I thought about a donut for much of this episode.  If you struggle with food, have ever struggled with food, or just want food to be easy -- please listen to this episode. Join me for a highly informative and engaging episode with Sally Imeson. We discuss her multifaceted approach to wellness, why I think making gelatin is difficult, and how truly nurturing your body goes far deeper than counting calories or macros.  Sally was inspired by natural medicine from a young age, and has a twenty year history of studying  Beauty Therapy, Nutrition and Stress Management, and Sports Management. When she became a new wife and mother she quickly learned that emotional wellness is far more important then ‘calories, nutrients or portion sizes’.  Living in an environment with domestic violence and raising two children on her own showed Sally deep trauma and led her direction with trauma care investigation. She now teaches and advocates that caring for the nervous system and setting up your lifestyle to positively support the nervous system is the most nurturing nutrition philosophy to follow. I learned a great deal from Sally in our time together and I have no doubt you will also! Enjoy the episode. Please join me for this vibrant episode with the amazing Karen O’Conner, founder of the Menopause, Marriage, and Motherhood podcast. Karen is dynamic woman who sought answers from her own experience through menopause, and then went on to further share what she found out with the world.  After raising four children, Karen found herself smack bang in the middle of menopause and with zero idea of what to do with her life. Depressed, lonely and majorly hormonal, she was shamefully convinced that she was the only person who felt this way, as every other woman she knew seemed to have their act together. But as she began to talk to people, she realized that most women going through midlife experience a similar sort of thing. She also realized that even though menopause is something that 50% of the population will experience, it's neither understood not discussed enough.  Karen started her podcast, blog, and Facebook group to bring this topic into the forefront of the conversation with grace, humor, and a style all her own.  We have a great chat and clarify what menopause actually is, signs we can watch for as we go through perimenopause, and how we can maintain steady and sure footing as we go through these biological changes.  If you are a man and think this episode isn’t for you—think again! If you have any women in your life who you care about, learning and understanding what they go through throughout the lifetime of their hormonal cycles will surely make life for pleasant for both of you!  Enjoy this episode of real talk, plenty of giggles, and leave with a better understanding of your own biology.  Join the Community Here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SelfLoveProject2020 Self Trust Training Dr Alice and Kerby Method Consulting Links for Karen: https://pod.link/Menopause_Marriage_Motherhood0 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFN-EHPIZ47IgudCPDgr-JA? https://www.facebook.com/groups/menopausemarriageandmotherhood https://www.middleagedwomensstuff.com

Beth is a Creative Grief Support Practitioner and a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado. She has a private practice focusing in grief, loss and trauma reconciliation. Beth is a Transpersonal Art Therapist and Certified EMDR Therapist too. Her main passion is using a creative somatic approach to helping others navigate grief. Her own apprenticeship to grief gave me the inside experience to be with others as they come to grips with grief too. Beth talks about the importance of befriending your grief, rather than fighting through it or relying on a linear timeline to heal. She is full of wisdom and grace, and this is a wonderful episode for us all, with acknowledging all of the small and large grieving we are doing collectively as a planet through the time of COVID. Humanual may be one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure to read, and speaking with the author, Betsy Polatin, was s special treat unto itself.  Betsy Polatin, MFA, SEP is an internationally recognized breathing/movement specialist and best-selling author. She has been teaching for more than forty years and is currently a master lecturer at Boston University’s College of Fine Arts. Her background includes forty-five years of movement education and performance, as well as training in the Alexander Technique, music, dance, yoga, meditation, trauma resolution, and the broader healing arts. Her work is greatly influenced by the teachings of Spiritual and Meditation Masters.  Betsy leads international trainings where she presents her unique and revolutionary fusion of ideas: scientific knowledge combined with ancient wisdom and intuitive human creativity. Betsy’s previous book, The Actor’s Secret, was featured on ABC TV and Fox News, and received rave reviews. As a well-known educator, she has published numerous articles in the Huffington Post. If you like science and sobriety, you'll love this episode. Gillian Tietz is the host and producer of The Sober Powered Podcast, where she uses her own story and scientific knowledge to break down complex concepts of how alcohol affects our brains, bodies, and biochemistry.  Gill is a biochemist in the Boston area. She has recently celebrated 1 year of sobriety, after 5 years of attempting to learn how to moderate her drinking. When she quit drinking, she became passionate about researching addiction science. Using her scientific background, she set out on a quest to learn why she can't drink like everyone else. Gill loves to share this information and hopes she can help people either quit drinking a little sooner or to reduce their shame around being a problem drinker. Gillian is a delight and shares her story in a beautiful and open manner, bringing so much relatability to the show. We talk about the many factors that can influence a person to become a problem drinker or alcoholic, and ways we can begin to change our lives for the better if we do identify as problem drinkers.  This is a sweet and well informed episode, so much so that I had to publish it right away and share it with all of you! Please join me for an episode seeped in very grounded magic with Judy Lemon. Judy is a shamanic practitioner and Somatic Experiencing trauma therapist (SEP) who brings years of comprehensive training and knowledge into her work. She has studied and apprenticed with Native and other master teachers in Europe, the United States and throughout Latin America. Judy draws upon her extensive experience with multiple modalities such as energy healing, ceremonial work, and trauma therapy to create an individual plan for each client’s healing and spiritual development.   She has just published her first work, a short story called "The Magic Tree," which is part of the anthology, "Crappy to Happy." A full-length memoir, called "Machete Woman," about her days as a shamanic apprentice will be published soon. We discuss her journey within the world of shamanism, what it was like to be a woman in the jungle, and how important staying centered is when working with elemental energy. We also had plenty of time to talk about one of my favorite subjects, Somatic Experiencing, and the very specific ways Judy uses this work in conjunction with her Shamanic practices.  This is a wonderful episode that left me feeling expansive and open to magic and wonder.
