Will Ojanen @WillsWorldMN - (Podcast) Perhaps the biggest surprises in basketball didn't come on the court in day two. Here's a look at the final scores - Clemson 69 Miami 64NC State 73 Pitt 58Notre Dame 80 Boston College 58Syracuse 81 North Carolina 53 Though, according to the ACC website, that score for the final game on the list was in an alternate universe. You can almost hear the countdown clock ticking away. I've got good news and bad news. The good news is that the ACC and NCAA Tournaments are coming at us fast. What might it feel like living in 1970? On this episode of ACC Nation podcast we’re joined by special guest David Doda, a member of the Wake Forest football team that won their first conference championship since the school had helped form it in 1953. History books looking at 1970 are filled with things like the Vietnam war, the Beatles breaking up, Joe Frazier becoming the World Heavyweight Champion in boxing and the movie M*A*S*H premiering among others. But, in Winston-Salem a group of young men who were dismissed by sportswriters of the time came together under Coach Cal Stoll for a journey they’ll never forget and Doda shares his memories in his book, No Offense, No Defense, No Hope. Podcast The road to victory is seldom as smooth as imagined. The struggles as players, as young men living in a troubled world and personal loss often helps forge lasting relationships. Having an old school coach that holds your feet to the fire builds comradery and focuses you on things at hand rather than the whirling dervish outside of campus. Baseball | Preseason Top 25. Good For What Exactly? Doda’s book is available at Amazon and is a fascinating read for anyone who is into college football, interested in history and especially for Wake Forest alumni and fans. Who among you had an ACC team in the CFP Championship game? ACC Nation podcast with Will Ojanen and Jim Quist take a look at Miami and their journey to the title game. Don’t let anyone tell you that the conference is weak or unable to compete against the assumed powerhouses because it’s obviously not true. With financial incentives being spread far and wide among college teams parity is kicking in and what once was is no longer. The guys jump into ACC men’s and women’s basketball. The men’s side has fallen on hard times the last few years but there is clearly a re-emergence underway and more teams than ever fighting for a spot in the top tier. The women have carried the prestige of the conference during the men’s falling off and at the beginning of the season experience their own stumble. It now appears as if they too are rising like the Phoenix. Podcast There’s no better time to begin a hot streak than now and through the ACC tournament. Teams need to collect, as they point out on the podcast as many Q1 wins (or even losses if it’s close) to improve their NCAA NET rankings (men – women). What will it take for ACC basketball teams to make it to the Big Dance? ACC Nation podcast with Will and Jim take a look at both men and women as they’ve reached the midway point of the season. It isn’t all about adding Quadrant 1 wins and having a comfy ranking in the NCAA NET. Those wins are important but staying away from Q3 and 4 losses may be even more critical when the committee looks at the 37 At-Large Bids later this year. Of course, you could always shoot for winning the conference and get an Auto-Bid. The guys look at the most recent wins and losses, how they impact the overall conference and why some records at this point in the season aren’t all they’re made out to be. Who gets lit up on the first ACC Nation podcast of 2026? Will and Jim talk conference football bowl performances, the transfer portal, changes in personnel (on and off the field) and wrap with an update on men’s and women’s basketball. Needless to say, you want the truth? You can’t handle the truth! Find out who gets torched. Thousands of Division I football players hit the Transfer Portal and for some it was a good decision. For far too many it wasn’t. Why? Welcome to the new reality of college sports. This ain’t your daddy’s turf anymore and those who aren’t treating it like the business that it is are destined for a rough landing. Podcast As Will and Jim discussed with Jason Carmello of Big Underdog the ACC men’s basketball picture is looking much better than it has in years. Can a couple of teams still trip up and face-plant on the court? Some seem to be working on it but it’s just the beginning of non-stop conference play. One request…don’t horse this up for everyone else in the conference if you want to crap the bed. Ready for a fun ride into the tournaments? We’ve got it for you along with some great guests over the weeks to come. Subscribe to the podcast and/or YouTube and listen on streaming radio. Don’t forget. With over a month and a half of (essentially) non-conference ACC men’s basketball under our belts who would have thought things would be looking up as much as they are? Special guest, Jason Carmello, the wizard behind Big-Underdog bracketology says there’s much to be happy with when it comes to the conference this season. ACC men’s basketball over the past few years has been less than stellar and pundits have been declaring an early death for the conference. Well, it appears that the slumber is over. Duke, Louisville, North Carolina and Virginia all hold spots in the latest Top 25’s. What might be even more telling is the teams that are getting attention and it’s a long list. Clemson, Cal, Notre Dame, Miami, SMU, Virginia Tech, NC State and if consistency jump into the mix then Wake Forest and Syracuse will be there, too. Basketball In Carmello’s first bracket of the season 8 ACC teams find a spot with four more just on the cusp. That’s simply the Phoenix rising. Yes, it’s an early projection but there’s far more stats to work with this season than in years past. All good signs. With a quick listen or watching ACC Nation on YouTube you’ll find out why we spend less time talking when Carmello joins us to talk basketball. Be sure to subscribe to our podcast, listen to us on streaming radio and watch on YouTube.
What’s up on this week’s ACC Nation podcast? Will and Jim look at the ACC Football Championship game between Virginia and Duke and are somewhere around 98% on the positivity regarding the performances of both teams. We don’t think most of you have any doubt about what we’re referring to in our headline. Yeah, the guys have opinions. The rundown of all the bowl games and how the matchups look plus thoughts on Miami vs. Texas A&M in the CFP. If teams bring it there will be plenty to talk about when all is said and done. That includes the huge impact on drawing portal players and recruiting will have on programs if they go full tilt. Podcast If you stand back a little you’ll see some improvement in ACC men’s basketball this season and it’s very encouraging. What was once a shining star for the conference has lost some luster over on the women’s side. A solid start has ended up being a mess. What’s happening? There’s no simple answer but a closer inspection is warranted. Subscribe to the podcast, listen to streaming radio or watch ACC Nation on YouTube.
