I Call You Friends

Episode 110: "I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father." - John 15:15---"This is my Beloved and this is my friend" (from Song of Songs 5:16) is the title for the 6th Annual "The World Is Noisy - God Whispers"® Retreat scheduled for January 23-24, 2026. Tune in to this episode as author and host Julia Monnin shares with listeners a taste of this theme that will be unpacked at this upcoming retreat. At the retreat this year (and little on this episode), Julia explores the theme of “friendship” as seen in the life of prayer and in the saintly male/female duos of St. Thérèse of Lisieux and her spiritual brother Fr. Maurice Belliere, St. Teresa of Jesus and St. John of the Cross, and St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane Frances de Chantel.---Learn more about the 6th Annual "The World Is Noisy - God Whispers"® Retreat at journeysrevealed.com/retreat---theworldisnoisy.com | journeysrevealed.com
Episode 109: "I must trust that the extraordinary is indeed all around me in what seems to be incredibly (and even painfully) ordinary."---Join author and host Julia Monnin as she takes a closer look at Reflection #316 ("Remaining Faithful in the Ordinary") found in her book The World Is Noisy - God Whispers: Volume II. ---"The ordinary feels, well, ordinary, Lord. But I know that it is in the ordinary that I will more deeply and purely be rooted in you. Yes, I know when I kiss the face of a child, I kiss the face of God. I know when I hold the hand of my husband, I hold the hand of my Savior. I know when I give someone something to eat or fill their cup with water, I am feeding you and giving you something to drink. So, I won’t let 'the ordinary' make me doubt your presence in and through my life, Lord. I won’t let 'the ordinary' make me believe that I am doing something wrong. Instead, I will trust. I will trust that this is all part of your plan. I will trust that this is all part of my journey. I will trust that my ordinary life is, in the process of becoming something extraordinary."---NEW for 2025! Stay in touch with JRM via Flocknote. Episode 106: ". . . Lord, my heart is not proud; / nor are my eyes haughty. / I do not busy myself with great matters, / with things too sublime for me. / Rather, I have stilled my soul, / Like a weaned child to its mother, / weaned is my soul. / Israel, hope in the Lord, / now and forever." – Psalm 131---"Oh, how happy I am to see myself imperfect and to have such need of God's mercy at the moment of my death," said St. Thérèse, the Little Flower, at the end of her life. Could you say the same? Tune in to this episode as author and host Julia Monnin shares some thoughts on spiritual poverty (St. Thérèse style!).---"At times the little bird's heart is assailed by the storm, and it seems it should believe in the existence of no other thing except the clouds surrounding it; this is the moment of perfect joy for the poor little week creature. And what joy it experiences when remaining there just the same! and gazing at the Invisible Light which remains hidden from its faith!" – St. Thérèse of Lisieux, Story of a Soul ---theworldisnoisy.com | journeysrevealed.com

I have no other means of proving my love for you other than that of strewing flowers, that is, not allowing one little sacrifice to escape, not one look, one word, profiting by all the smallest things and doing them through love.” – St. Thérèse of Lisieux, Story of a Soul ---theworldisnoisy.com | journeysrevealed.com
Episode 104: "Now I understand the mystery of the temple, / The hidden words of my Lovable King. / Mother, your sweet Child wants you to be the example / of the soul that seeks Him in the night of faith." – St. Thérèse of Lisieux (Poem 54, "Why I love you, O Mary!")*---Reflecting some on the mystery of the Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple, author and host Julia Monnin shares some thoughts we get from St. Thérèse as found in her Poem "Why I love you, O Mary!". In this episode, Julia also shares with listeners her own thoughts on why she loves Mary by taking a look at Reflection #267 found in her book The World Is Noisy - God Whispers: Volume II. ---"My devotion to [Mary], therefore, is not one that's centered on what she can get for me. Instead, it's one that's centered on what I can gain from getting to know her; that is, a deep and profound knowledge and love of her son." Episode 102: "God did not work . . . in such a way as to make sorrow vanish and to change the system, so that there is no longer any need for consolation. That would be to take away our humanity. And this is what we secretly desire. Yes, being human is too burdensome for us. But if our humanity were taken away from us, we would cease to be human beings and the world would become inhuman. God did not work that way. He chose a wiser way that was more difficult in many respects but, for precisely that reason, better, more divine. He did not take away our humanity but shares it with us." – Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) from a homily titled “How God Comforts” in the book On Love: Selected Writings---In this month's episode, author and host Julia Monnin* reminds listeners of the simple truth that our humanity is something beautiful; something to be grateful for and to delight in. In addition to sharing a few reflections from others, she also shares with listeners her own Reflection #220 which is found in her book The World Is Noisy - God Whispers: Volume II. ---"Though I am really struggling right now with some heaviness and pain related to my human weaknesses and vices, I am incredibly grateful for what I am. After all, I am created in God's image and likeness. What else could be better than that?" (from Reflection #220, "Big God, Small Problems")---theworldisnoisy.com | journeysrevealed.com

Yes, when I woke this morning only to realize that this child is still indeed in my womb instead of my arms, the temptation to let the darkness, despair, and defeat creep back in reappeared. Episode 97: "I found the secret of suffering in peace. . . . The one who says peace is not saying joy, or at least, felt joy. . . . To suffer in peace is enough to will all that Jesus wills. . . . To be the spouse of Jesus we must resemble Jesus, and Jesus is all bloody, he is crowned with thorns! . . ." - St. Thérèse of Lisieux (Letter 87) --- How dark did the darkness get for our little, meek, and humble St. Thérèse during her life here on earth? How can a saint rightfully referred to as "The Little Flower" relate to me in the darkness of my sufferings and trials? Tune in to this month's episode as author and host Julia Monnin unpacks briefly the tenacity of little Thérèse who, in her own trials of faith, had to learn "the secret of suffering in peace." --- "Don’t believe that when I’m in heaven I’ll let ripe plums fall into your mouths. This isn’t what I had, nor what I desired. You will perhaps have great trials, but I’ll send you lights which will make you appreciate and love them. You will be obliged to say like me: 'Lord, You fill us with joy with all the things You do for us.'" – St. Thérèse of Lisieux --- Learn more about the 5th Annual "The World Is Noisy - God Whispers"® Retreat at journeysrevealed.com/retreat --- theworldisnoisy.com | journeysrevealed.com
Episode 96: "When I share my story with others, I always like to joke that if I were going to give the really brief, five-second version of my story, I would simply say the title of the Scripture passage of Luke 7:36–50 which reads ‘A Sinful Woman Forgiven,’ and walk away. . . . Yes, if we only had five seconds and you asked me, ‘Julia, what’s your story?’ I would simply answer, ‘I’m a sinful woman forgiven.’ Because, in essence, this pretty much sums up my soul’s journey: where I’ve been, where I am, and where the Lord, in His mercy, is continuing to draw me. But when I share my conversion story in person, those listening (for better or worse) get to hear the extended version. And, as always, I’m humbled to share with them the goodness of our great and merciful God, who ransomed, healed, restored, and forgave me, and who continues to draw me into the depths of His love." /// Join author and host Julia Monnin* in this episode as she shares with listeners a talk she gave to a group of men and women in October of 2024.
