A suggestion people should fuel-up as they go, with conflict in the Middle East pushing petrol prices higher. Fighting in the region has led to oil reaching more than $90 USD a barrel, as key shipping routes close and oil-production in the Gulf is cut. Qatar's Energy Minister warned prices could continue to rise if the fighting goes on. The Middle East is being rocked by explosions - and questions are circulating on Iran's governance. The US and Israel have bombed more than 2000 targets in Iran and killed close to 800 people. The conflict has sparked criticisms over the international response, but one expert is pushing back against Helen Clark's condemnation of our Government. Iranian New Zealander, barrister and solicitor Samira Taghavi says she's open to debating Clark to challenge her stance on the conflict. "International law must bend to save lives, it has happened before, it's not absolute. Over the weekend, Israel and the US launched an all-out missile attack on Iran in an operation that has been dubbed 'Operation Epic Fury.' Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been killed in the strikes along with 48 other senior Iranian regime figures. The attack comes at a time of widespread unrest in Iran, after Ali Khamenei's government killed tens of thousands of protestors opposing the regime. Founder of Iranian Women in New Zealand Dr. Forough Amin told Matt and Tyler that, 'We know that it's going to prevent the regime from killing more people, and Iranians have been celebrating.' The New Zealand government says it's tough on crime policies are working. The latest survey shows 49,000 fewer victims of violent crime in the year up to October, which is an improvement on the last two years. Police Minister Mark Mitchell told Matt & Tyler that the reduce in crime has eased the stress on business owners, who no longer need to worry about as many burglaries and ram raids. New reports show alcohol consumption is at an all-time low, and there's concerns about what this could mean for the hospitality sector. Stats NZ figures show overall consumption dropped 8.3 percent, beer consumption fell 10 percent, wine was down 11 percent - with spirits rising by 1.3 percent. Sam MacKinnon from Hospitality NZ says it's likely rising costs are driving consumers away, but recent health trends are also a factor. There was controversy after the recent BAFTA Awards, after a guest with Tourette's syndrome shouted racial slurs when two black actors went on stage. John Davidson, whose life story inspired the film I Swear, used obscene language when Michael B Jordan and Delroy Lindo presented the first award of the night.
