Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation or ECMO has made a resurgance in popularity and usage across the country. It has become minimized and mobile, removing a lot of barriers that kept it from being used previously. With tons of advantages and a tried and true history of being an effective tool for cardiogenic shock, the newer mobile units are really making a splash at smaller satellite community hospitals. My guest Jason Chan RN and ECMO PRN owner and operator walks us through what ECMO is and why the newer smaller units are making a significant difference in patient lives. If you would like more information about ECMO PRN please feel to reach out them directly at ECMOPRN.com As always, subscribe to the podcast. This episode is dedicated to Jennifer, a listener in Florida! I talk about the affects the pandemic has had on our outpatient volumes and the cuts the hospital has made to our hours to stave off losses and what that has done to us. From self reflection on how we continue to find yourself not recession proof in healthcare to projects to approach your leadership with to justify your hours. This podcast follows my journey as I navigate these difficult times. Contact me with your show idea or questions at Cathlabchat@gmail.com
This podcast is to speak to and answer a lot of questions I have as a healthcare worker about COVID 19. Dr Shin takes the time to really dive into a lot concerns a lot of us are talking about in healthcare. From how to properly interact with COVID patients to what we should really be doing in and outside of the hospital. He also goes in depth about the hydroxycholoquine crazy and if it is actually a meaningful treatment. Please share with all of your freinds in healthcare.

The old debate comes around every year, who gets to go to TCT and is it even worth it. In short, YES. TCT is a great place to learn, network and expand your horizons. This week I talk about the elephant in the room TCT is physician focused and we are all to often an after thought. From education credits to availble courses we just simply arnt the bread and butter of TCT. This doesnt mean we can benefit in a huge way. You just have to make the conference work for you, and well adjust your expectations accordingly. Thank you everyone for listening and if you were at TCT this year please hit me up at cathlabchat@gmail.com
This week I talk about the best way to be new in the cath lab. Odds are if you got a job in the cath lab, your probably more used to being the preceptor than the preceptee, and its been awhile. I talk about tips that I think really apply to all jobs but focus on pieces that are specific to the cath lab.   Thanks for listening and check out the website at cathlabchat.com Ill be at TCT later this month so let me know if your going to be there!
This week I sit down with Rebecca Jones, President and CEO of Sharp Medical Staffing. While they are a medical staffing company, they offer a lot more than that. So much so they dont refer to themselves as a staffing company. Rebecca is really taking a different approach to medical staffing. Its her goal to go further than just providing warm bodies when you need them, even though she can do that too. She is more interested in helping solve your staffing problem rather than putting a band aid on it. They offer preceptors, managers, specialized staff as well as a host of other services. As much as the above sounds like a commercial for Sharp, they really are different. So What does all of this mean to you? We get a lesson on what the travel industry is as of now as well as what Rebecca is doing different. I can personally attest to not really understanding the behind the scenes working of what travel companies do. I learned a lot from Rebecca in this interview and I became a fan of her vision a long the way. If your interested in joining her on her mission to do things different and maybe try a different travel company. Please visit them at www.sharpmedicalstaffing.com and please let them know you heard about them on the podcast! Thanks
Week 2 focuses on the difference between a manager and a leader and why its so important to know the difference. Teresa is a Nurse with 36 years experience and is currently a "traveling leader" she also does consulting work with hospitals. She is who you turn to when your cath lab has turned toxic and everyone is heading for the door. She comes in and helps get the ship turned around and headed back in the right direction. She has tons of experience and I can personally attest to her skillset.
This episode is dedicated to understanding the ins and outs of becoming a travel tech / RN. We talk to Brad Turner an X-ray tech with cath, IR, structural experience. Brad's situation is unique because he travels with his wife Kat who is also an X-ray tech, she is a CT traveler. So they have really gotten a lot of experience working between multiple companies to end up in the same city at the same time.
