104: IMITATION overview

2021-10-1401:11:04

Walk in slow motion with your boy posse and look bloody fantastic in eyeliner, because this week on the show Evie is chatting about the 2021 kpop kdrama IMITATION, which stars the delightful (and very cranky) Lee Joon-Young. This short youth romance Korean drama also stars Jung Ji-So and a lot of idols, and features dancing, dreams and kisses. Evie was OBSESSED with the first half and then felt luke-warm about the second half, but overall, it was a super fun kdrama she is very glad to have watched. GUEST GAB is back, featuring very special guest Gee, a man who doesn't watch kdrama at all. This is the show where Evie forces him to watch the first episode of a random Korean drama, and then recap it back to her, along with a fun quiz and other random games. This week they watched the first episode of ARE YOU HUMAN, TOO? This 2018 stars the wonderful Seo Kang Joon as a robot (which is weird) and Evie spends a lot of time talking about how much she doesn't like robots (but she does like Seo Kang Joon, so it's fine!) Fall in love with a man who wants to eat you (!) and try your best to avoid the apocalypse, because this week Evie is chatting about the 2017 romance fantasy kdrama A KOREAN ODYSSEY (also known as HWAYUGI). This Hong sisters Korean drama stars Lee Seung Gi, Cha Seung Won and Oh Yeon-seo, and is surprisingly dark for such a fun and fizzy show! Whoah. Seduce ten ladies with your special green fog and then turn into a human, because this week Evie is chatting (read: FANGIRLING) over the redonkadonk web kdrama romance from 2020 called KISS GOBLIN. This one stars both Bae In-hyuk and also his dimples, and is both ridiculous and an absolute master-class in creating addictive tropey fun! Evie feels like she probably shouldn't have enjoyed it as much as she did, but oh well, if she can't fangirl on her podcast, then what is this thing even for? :) In this show she also talks about a million other Korean web dramas she has watched, including that one masquerading as a drama but which is actually a toothpaste advertisement. Yup.  Visit Evie's Patreon to support the show and for extra episodes: www.patreon.com/EvieKoreanDramaPodcast
This week it is EPISODE 100 (bonkers!) so to celebrate in style, Evie has a lovely group of incredible guests from her patreon in this GUEST GABBLE episode, all answering the question ... HOW DID YOU FIRST GET INTO KDRAMA, AND WHAT ABOUT KDRAMA MADE YOU SO ADDICTED? Hearing everyone's stories and the passion in their voices when talking about kdrama feels truly special! This is Evie's favourite episode of the podcast EVER!!! It feels magical to know there are other people out there just as obsessed, addicted and in love with kdrama as she is!!! :) Visit Evie's Patreon to support the show and for extra episodes: https://www.patreon.com/EvieKoreanDramaPodcast
Swallow a supernatural being's 999 year old stomach bead, and then fall in love with him (because his eyes are so pretty!), because this week on the show Evie is discussing the 2021 fantasy romance comedy MY ROOMMATE IS A GUMIHO. This kdrama is beautiful to look at, sweet, romantic and fun, and is dominated by a fun, fizzy performance by Hyeri (who Evie is now obsessed with!) and is also dominated by the pretty faces of both Jang Ki-yong and Bae In-hyuk, as well as a lovely turn by Kang Han-na cutely playing against her usual type. Evie gobbled this sweet fluffy drama right up! Visit Evie's Patreon to support the show and for extra episodes: https://www.patreon.com/EvieKoreanDramaPodcast

Fall in love and find a new dream, and then attempt to stay alive while a military dictator attacks your hometown, because this week on the show, Evie is discussing the 2021 melo-romance / historical Korean drama YOUTH OF MAY. This kdrama stars the incredible Lee Do-hyun and Go Min-si, who both give wonderful performances as star-struck lovers working hard to build a future, only to see it all torn down by the terrifying events that occurred in May, 1980, Gwangju. This drama was beautiful, utterly heart-breaking, and Evie is SO GLAD she watched it! Visit Evie's Patreon to support the show and for extra episodes: https://www.patreon.com/EvieKoreanDramaPodcast
Throw a shoe at a man and then vomit on the floor ... and then ask him to do a reality tv show with you! This week on the podcast, Evie is chatting about the fun madness that is the 2021 fluffy rom-com SO I MARRIED THE ANTI-FAN. This one stars Choi Tae-joon and Sooyoung, and was filmed back in 2018, but only released in 2021, and it feels very tropey, a little old-fashioned ... and weirdly freaking addictive for Evie. She enjoyed this so much! Visit Evie's Patreon to support the show and for extra episodes: https://www.patreon.com/EvieKoreanDramaPodcast

Grab a bamboo stick and prepare to bleed for your country ... a lot. And then probably die. Because this week on the show Evie is talking about the incredible and incredibly heart-breaking 2019 Korean drama NOKDU FLOWER. This gritty, dark and amazing historical kdrama stars Jo Jung Seok, Yoon Si Yoon and Han Yeri, and ripped Evie's heart to shreds. It is also one of the highest quality dramas she has ever seen. Clumsily fall over onto a handsome boy at least three times per episode, because this week Evie is discussing the 2016 rom-com kdrama CINDERELLA AND THE FOUR KNIGHTS. This Korean drama is fluffy, silly, cute and completely lacking in plot, and stars the incredible Jung Il Woo and Park So Dam. Evie LOVES these two! Visit Evie's Patreon to support the show and for extra episodes: https://www.patreon.com/EvieKoreanDramaPodcast

This is the show where Evie forces him to watch the first episode of a random Korean drama, and then recap it back to her, along with a fun quiz and other random games. This week they watched the first episode of MAN TO MAN, which Gee actually picked himself without having any idea what it was. Evie has never seen this kdrama from 2017, that stars Park Hae-jin as a spy who gets up to many action capers! Be the coolest and most bad-arse princess in the whole world, then fall in love with a (very) handsome warrior man who reeeeeeaaallly doesn't want to pick up a sword. But just force him to do it anyway! This week on the show, Evie is chatting about the 2021 historical kdrama RIVER WHERE THE MOON RISES, which stars the gorgeous Kim So-hyun, wonderful Na In-woo and a whole bunch of other people. This sageuk is sweepingly epic, tragically romantic, and quite grand in scale. It certainly faced a lot of problems during its run time, and Evie feels quite impressed with what it managed to be, despite the hardships it faced. 88: MR QUEEN overview

88: MR QUEEN overview

2021-04-2901:43:40

Be a manly modern day chef, get sucked into the body of a noblewoman in Joseon Korea, married off to a King with a secret, and ... fall in love? This week on the show Evie is discussing the absolute gem of a 2020 / 2021 Korean drama MR QUEEN. Starring the glorious Shin Hye-Sun in the absolute mind-bogglingly incredible performance of the female (?) lead, as well as Kim Jung-hyun as the regal king, and many many others, including lovely newcomers Na In-woo and Seol In-ah, and always lovely Choi Jin-hyuk in a cameo role. This historical body-swap kdrama is funny, heartbreaking, exciting, hysterical and swoony, and Evie couldn't have adored it more (actually she could have, and she talks about that at length, haha). Die, get resurrected as a zombie, and then spend a year wearing flowery ahjumma pants and running on a treadmill, because this week Evie is discussing the gory 2020 comedy Korean drama ZOMBIE DETECTIVE. Starring the (always) charismatic Choi Jin-hyuk, this silly yet charming kdrama is very tongue-in-cheek, very fun, and a very fast watch. Evie really enjoyed it! Hide your feelings, only fall in love with whoever the internet tells you to, and ring love alarms instead of saying 'I love you', because this week Evie is discussing the second season of melancholy romance 2021 Korean drama LOVE ALARM. Starring the always incredible Kim So-hyun, and also Song Kang and Jung Ga-ram, this kdrama hints at a terrifying social future dependent on the whims of corporations who create social media apps ... but focuses instead on a quiet love story and the emotional growth of one traumatised woman. Evie unexpectedly REALLY enjoyed this season. It was kind of beautiful. Visit Evie's Patreon to support the show and for extra episodes: https://www.patreon.com/EvieKoreanDramaPodcast

Wear a fake glued-on beard, die multiple times, and then save the country, because this week on the podcast, Evie is discussing the epic 2018 Korean drama sageuk GRAND PRINCE. This sweepingly romantic historical kdrama stars Yoon Si Yoon, as a fake-bearded tragic prince, Jin Se-yeon as a woman much stronger than she knows, and Joo Sang-wook as a man who covets everything he cannot have. Except for all the fake beards, Evie loved this kdrama! Visit Evie's Patreon to support the show and for extra episodes: https://www.patreon.com/EvieKoreanDramaPodcast
