Continuing my self imposed tradition of the boss man taking on every episode ending with a zero, I’m back in the hot seat for episode 40! I set out on a soulful excursion, but things soon ended up getting a bit bumpy. A few curveballs too, was loving some Cooly G towards the end. I’m dead pleased with this one, particularly how I didn’t let my ADHD rule the show and actually let the tracks speak for themselves a bit more rather than just constantly slamming in more tunes. Plenty of faffing around with filters, EQ and delays though… and I of course ballsed up the very last mix. This was definitely a mix of two distinct parts - started with some 80s vibes, flitting rapidly between some well known bits and more obscure stuff, then almost accidentally flipped into cosmic disco mode, mining my small but quite good collection of tracks from a few Nordic producers. Definitely preferred the second half, where I slowed the mixing down and let the tracks breathe a bit. This month’s freebie is an edit of a tune that will always hold a special place in my heart, because it was top of the charts in the UK when I entered the world! So I very nearly didn’t have a free download for you this month - I was working on something but it didn’t work out and I had to abandon it. Then a family holiday took me out of action for a bit and left me with just a few days to rustle something up. Just a one hour session this week as I slowly recover from being ill, but since it’s my first one in three weeks it felt like I had to do some sort of mix. Kept this one slow and slinky, around the 100BPM mark throughout, and managed to cover a good amount of ground in 60 minutes - with some P-Funk, some Hip Hop, some R&B and some sexy disco vibes.
