I see the need to help you defend against all kinds of hijackers. Today's episode we will walk through how to keep the hijackers away from your team because hey, we need a stable agile team and we are doing just fine without you coming in and splitting us up. In fact, we don't even want your help adding new people unless we ask you to do it! I see this alot, in a scaled agile world particularly. How can you defend the team, save them from the forces that may want to come in a break them up?Let's dive into 3 things I think will help you keep that high-performing team, improve the functioning of the team and show folks that yeah - take a hike!scott@planetproductowner.org
I see teams struggle with the flow of value because they are either bogged down in the stories and tasks or they don't have a candle in the dark room.Hey Product Owner, you have to light that candle and show them the way.If prioritization seems like a never-ending battle or even worse you are prioritizing the wrong backlog - yes - you know the one...Then this episode is for you! This episode is great for product owners, new and old. But not just for you! Agile leaders, scrum masters, dev teams and project managers could probably steal some things from this one.Kickin it old school on this one!www.planetproductowner.org is being updated. The tests are over. Coming soon!!
Often times Product Owners and Agile Dev Teams get confused on who owns what when it comes to the product backlog and the sprint backlog. I want to help you figure that part out, but I also want to share some practical ways that you, as a product person, can grow your practice and work in the right backlog. Maybe you are not sure about how much detail to put into this story, or maybe you are not confident enough to walk away from it and just take your hands off the Sprint Backlog. Remember, that is owned by the dev team.Let's journey!scott@planetproductowner.org

Sometimes surviving agile at scale feels like a never-ending cycle of defeat. There are ways to get through it and there’s light at the end of the tunnel. It doesn’t always have to be a train wreck. Some agile coaches believe that scaling agile is not even agile but there are tons of frameworks that help address the issues. If there’s one thing that SAFe, LeSS, etc. have in common, it is to address one area of your scaled framework that is often the culprit for so much confusion. This episode will address a few things to help you with that journey. This episode would be good for leaders, project managers, product, owners, scrum, masters, and agile teams.
One thing lots of agile or scrum teams have in common is that they experience carry over work. Sometimes, we can do it and still survive and meet our goals. But if carry over work becomes the norm and we are unable to get out of the trend, it is problematic for us. There are several different culprits that lead to carry over work, but none is worse than the backlog hijacker. This episode is great for agile leaders, scrum masters, dev teams, software managers and of course the Product Owner! We'll explore some ways to diagnose and triage this problem we have and learn how to say bye bye to our backlog hijacker!Thank you all for your continued support and sharing the podcast! I love being your Practical Agile Coach!
Helpful hints are always what you get on the Planet Product Owner Podcast! Journey today to see how an agile or scrum product owner can help kick off Sprint Planning and establish the expectations for what I believe to be the most important feedback loop in our practice. Today's episode should help you with a pattern that I've found to be successful in this little adventure, helping to navigate around ALL those many stakeholders in the session! I've also reached a decision, finally! Audio only will be available on all the podcast platforms, but video, presentations, downloads, forums, webinars, meetups and much more will be available for members at www.planetproductowner.org. Just because we are agile, it doesn't mean we don't plan. If you are a scrum or Agile Product Owner or Product Manager, remember that the team needs your input for the sprint planning event. This episode gives you some practical tips and guidance to help your sprint planning event go smoothly. Remember to subscribe to the podcast, tell a friend and let me know how I can help!scott@planetproductowner.org
It’s the final round folks! This episode will help the product owner and the Dev team put all three parts of the sprint backlog together in the full cycle! How exciting! How do we know what a product backlog item looks like and how do we know if we’re giving the team the right information to have the right conversations? This episode will explore some of those details and help you with some think of patterns to help increase flow of value. Flow of value is actually what we’re seeking in agile software development, particularly in scrum. Help me stay ad-free!!https://coff.ee/planetproductowner
The Execution Plan

The Execution Plan

This episode will wrap up the three parts of the Sprint Backlog. I hope the agile team and product owner are honoring all 3! If not, make sure you check out the series and get caught up! There are some serious ideas in this episode for you to connect behaviors to theory. May we allow principles and values be our guide as we journey together! If I say so myself, this is probably one of the best episodes I’ve ever come out with. Let me know what you think!Thank you as always for your support! If you like it, subscribe, write a review and tell a friend! Too many times product owners overdo it when it comes to the Sprint backlog. The sprint backlog is owned by the dev team, not by the product owner. This episode will focus on one or two ideas that may help you back into the product backlog. Remember, the product backlog serves as an input for the team and that input goes into a process, which in this case allows the team to create a sprint goal. This is part two of the series to help the product owner and agile development team with new thinking patterns and a new perspective to improve the sprint backlog.Help me stay ad free on planet product owner if you feel led!https://coff.ee/planetproductowner
The Sprint Goal

The Sprint Goal

Following up on the previous episode, let’s dive into to the sprint backlog. Did you know there are three parts to the sprint backlog? Often times product owners and agile or scrum teams forget about that part. These three basic elements make up the full cycle, so we’re gonna decompose some stuff today!Help me stay Ad-Free!https://coff.ee/planetproductowner
The Agile Mirror

The Agile Mirror

2025-06-2416:22

Glad to be back with this episode! And yes, I. AM. BACK !The agile mirror is one that we often take for granted. Sometimes it’s nice just to reset, realign and just get back to the center. This episode will set up the next 3 to 5 episodes for the product owner, scrum master, team member and even leadership to help reorient and get back to the center. Why are we even doing agile development? Have we thought about that? Let’s dive in!!I would be grateful if you would help me keep the podcast ad-free!https://buymeacoffee.com/planetproductowner
We are in the business of exploring, defining and solving the unknown. But that does not mean we blindly commit to work. How can we help the product owner and product manager in the agile development space to become more proactive? How can we better qualify what we’re asking the team to do? How can we shore up our commitments? Today, let’s focus on three topics that we need to address as a product owner or product manager with the agile or scrum teams input and feedback to make sure we are ready to accept the challenge of commitment.
Too many times we fall into habits that we carry over from the days of old. There’s nothing wrong with the days of old, in fact, we can learn a lot from the old days. But what we want to learn from the past and we are actually apply new techniques from thinking patterns we develop. This episode is beneficial for the agile product owner, product manager, agile team, and anyone in your release train or program. if you have ever been in the position of taking the really large document and transitioning it into your actual team for development, this episode is for you!
In this episode I’ll wrap up and summarize the six keys for a successful practice. If you are a product owner or a product manager in the agile space, this episode will summarize the skills covered with a reminder of why we want to develop them and how to tie them back to protect your team, your backlog and the health of your practice.
With this episode, we are finally through the six keys of success for the product owner or product manager in the agile development and delivery space. Hooray! This episode will close out those six keys that we talked about. Sometimes you can equate the skills to more than just product, owner and product manager roles. We just wanna make sure that we are working on the right thing and that we are doing the right thing right. Combining these six keys will make you a very successful product owner or product manager. I know this because I have been there. Thank you for listening, please tell a friend, and always I’d love to hear from you! scott@planetproductowner.org
