Football is just around the corner. Cody and Jacob are back for Season 4 of Hey Fightin' Podcast to preview SEC Media Day in Atlanta, the culture shift inside the LSU football program under head coach Brian Kelly, realistic expectations for the upcoming season, and more. While you're listening, make sure to subscribe to LSU GOLD, where daily podcasts are coming August 1. (Note: We experienced some minor technical difficulties with Hester's audio, who joined us live from his hotel room in Atlanta, so bear with us for this edition.)
For the final time in the 2021 season, Cody and Hester gather (slightly later than usual) for a Hurry Up to break down LSU's 42-20 loss to Kansas State in the Texas Bowl.  We discuss Jontre Kirklin's return to the quarterback position, Brad Davis' leadership and impact as interim head coach, some guys who stood out for an undermanned squad, the pride shown by the players who finished what they started, and more. After talking about the game itself, we pivot to the future under Brian Kelly, how his new staff – including OC Mike Denbrock and DC Matt House – will impact the Tigers, Myles Brennan's return, and more.
Brian Kelly, the new head coach for LSU Football, makes his Hey Fightin' Podcast debut.  First, he talks with Cody Worsham about his roots in coaching, his values as a leader, and how he instills those at LSU.  After that, Coach Kelly sits down with Emily Dixon for a conversation on the task at hand in Baton Rouge.
Cody and Jacob jumped onto Twitter Spaces live to react to LSU's hiring of Brian Kelly.  Fellow Assumption alum Cole Tracy hops on early to give his take on another Hound bound for BR. Then Hester and Cody break down Kelly's resume, his first tasks on the job, the importance of winning the first team meeting, and so much more.
Cody and Jacob are grateful for LSU's win over Texas A&M, Coach O's joyful farewell, Jaray Jenkins' unforgettable night, Max Johnson's moxie, Damone Clark's leadership, the Tigers' fight, and our loyal listeners.
LSU spread it out against ULM, using 5 man protections and Empty sets to kick the passing game into gear. Cody and Jacob break down the film and numbers to see what worked and how it might apply against A&M Saturday.  Then Hester goes inside the film room with Max Johnson to talk about his best plays of the season.
A slightly different Hurry Up this week, as Cody and Jacob provide a running diary of LSU's 27-13 win over UL-Monroe. Topics include Malik Nabers' monster day, the freshman wideouts leading the way, Max Johnson's progress, the red zone struggles, close calls near the goal line, and a heated debate over carrot souffle and sweet potato pie that might threaten the existence of the podcast in the future.
LSU's coaching search is in full tilt. Cody and Jacob get their thoughts on the qualities and characteristics to look for the next coach of LSU Football, while discussing the overall media landscape and how they decipher real news from fake. Jacob also takes us back to 2005, when he was in the middle of a coaching search as a player, to give us that perspective during a time of uncertainty. After that, Jacob and Jack Mashburn head to the film room to dissect how the former walk-on tight end earned a scholarship through hard-nosed blocking and buying in to his role in the Tigers' offense.
On a cold night in Tiger Stadium, LSU's defense was dominant, its offense clunky, and its result frustrating.  Cody and Jacob discuss Garrett Nussmeier's first extended action at LSU, Micah Baskerville and Damone Clark's stellar performances, and talk through the frustrations of the Tigers' situational struggles and key mistakes.
Fresh off a hard fought battle in Tuscaloosa, Cody and Jacob look closer at LSU's defensive performance, how sustainable it is, and why the Tigers were able to dominate Alabama's high-powered offense for much of the night. Later, they discuss the open quarterback competition and the role of Jack Bech heading into the Arkansas game (29:21).  After that, linebacker Mike Jones goes into the film room (43:53) to look at his big day against the Tide and talk about his improvements after transferring from Clemson to prove himself as a future NFL middle linebacker.
A resilient effort from LSU isn't quite enough to topple the Tide in Tuscaloosa. Cody and Jacob break down LSU's defensive success, the new blitz-happy scheme, the offensive struggles, and the dramatic conclusion to the game. Back at Cards and Culture this week to preview Arkansas.
Fresh off the bye week, LSU is set to bring some new looks on both sides of the ball against Alabama. Cody and Jacob break down what tweaks the Tigers might utilize on offense and defense in Tuscaloosa this weekend.  Later in the show, Butkus Award semifinalist Damone Clark takes us inside the film room a few of his best plays from a breakout season.
Ted Lasso doppelgänger Jacob Hester and Kent Lowe impersonator Cody Worsham discuss the virtues of Being a Goldfish during LSU's bye week. Also up for discussion are the offensive funk seen at Ole Miss, what we're seeing from LSU's defense, and a bigger picture conversation about Quarterback, the 4-3, and injuries.  Back next week to preview Alabama.

The search for LSU's next football coach is under way, as the Tigers and Ed Orgeron will part ways following the 2022 season.  Hester and Cody break down what it means for the present and future of the program and some of the associated storylines around the decision from Scott Woodward and the reaction from Ed Orgeron.  Then, we talk football, recapping what went right against Florida and what the plan of attack should be for Ole Miss.  Finally, Hester sits down with Ty Davis-Price to break down the film on his record-setting day against the Gators on Saturday.

LSU beats Florida.  Three beautiful words.  All the emotions and rea ctions to the Tigers' win over the Gators, including some great behind the scenes insight from Hester.
Former LSU national championship quarterback Matt Flynn joins his former teammate and good friend Jacob Hester to review the biggest plays from the Tigers' 28-24 win over Florida in 2007 (01:06:06). Before that, Cody and Jacob break down what went wrong against Kentucky (0:14) and what needs to improve against Florida (33:29). Plus, how LSU must replace Kayshon Boutte, build on the running success from last week, and adjust defensively with key players out.  Note: this episode was recorded Tuesday morning (Hester and Cody) and Wednesday morning (Hester and Flynn), before news about Eli Ricks' injury was released.
Cody and Jacob break down what went wrong in LSU's loss in Lexington on the bus ride back to the airport. There is good news in the form of fried chicken and expensive bourbon.
The show starts with a rant – apologies – but ends with Marcus Randall remembering the most famous pass of his career: The Bluegrass Miracle. In the middle, we break down what went wrong against Auburn, what to do to fix the running game, offensive issues, defensive improvements, and take your questions.
