We also dive in to see if Jimi's death was more than a sad, unfortunate accident. Jimi Death Breakdown: http://hendrix.guide.pagesperso-orange.fr/death.htm
On part eight of the guitar god Jimi Hendrix, we take a look at his life through 1970. We look at how the Band of Gypsies didn't pan out as how Jimi had originally hoped, how his dream studio opened just in time for him to say goodbye to it, and how a seemingly random set of circumstances would line Jimi up perfectly to walk him straight to his untimely death.
On part seven of our first musician ad infinitum, Jimi Hendrix, we travel with him through the year 1969, where the Jimi Hendrix Experience was disbanded, Jimi tried out his new band at Woodstock, and Mike Jeffery tightened his hold on the young guitar prodigy.
On this episode of On In Five, we are looking at even more of Jimi as he navigated his way through 1968; losing his long time manager Chas Chandler, finally dealing with his first manager Ed Chalpin, and even hinting at a full breakup of the Jimi Hendrix Experience as the world knew it.
On part five of our deep, deep dive into Jimi Hendrix, we take a look at his life during the 2nd half of 1967, when the 25 year old would reemerge in the United States and attempt to simultaneously become the biggest rock star on both sides of the pond.
On part four of our series on Jimi Hendrix, we take a look at the end of his initial run in the UK. We look at how he managed to take the country by storm, how he dealt with getting on the first less-than-ideal tour, and how he worked every day to make sure his debut album was both incredibly well done and incredibly well promoted.
On this episode of On In Five, we take a look at legendary rocker Jimi Hendrix as he found himself travelling across the pond to attempt to make a name for himself in London. He met some of the biggest musicians of all time, and knocked their socks off with his incredible talent and the perspective he brought to the genre they were all trying to perfect. Things started to take off for Jimi nearly as soon as it was wheels down in the UK, and it's all broken down on this episode.
On this episode of On In Five, we cover Jimi Hendrix as he attempted to make a name for himself as a guitarist. We see him make a half hearted attempt to be a military man like his father before him, we see him cut his teeth on the infamous Chitlin' Circuit, and we see just how his unwavering grooviness put him in the perfect position to become one of the biggest musicians of all time.
In the first episode of our deep dive into Jimi Hendrix, we take a look at his rough life growing up with a barely present mother and an overworked father, and the music he later graced the world with seemed to be in him from his earliest days. We look what turned James Hendricks into Jimi Hendrix.
In the conclusion of our series on Jazz-man turned Blues-man turned Experimental-man, Tom Waits, we take a look at his career from the time he moved out of the city to present day. We look at how he felt pushed out of the second label he joined, how he helped to put a variety of studios on the map, and how he handled the simultaneous worlds of doing stardom his way, and keeping himself and his family private.
On this bonus episode of On In Five, Anton talks with Mooka Rennick, the founder of Prairie Sun Recording Studio, and Jeff Sloan, the Studio Manager during the years of Tom Waits. The studio was used by Tom Waits for a few of his albums, including Bone Machine, Mule Variations, and the Orphan collection. They talk about their time working with Tom, how he discovered and used what has now been known as the Waits Room, and some other artists who have come through the studio.
In part three of our series on experimental rocker Tom Waits, we take a look at his life through the 80's, after he left his longtime label to try out something completely new, pushing the boundaries on what his music could be, and trying out his talents on the big screen as well on the stage.
On this episode of On In Five, we look at Tom Wait's life and career once he was fully in the groove of making music. Though the world and life of hotel living and street ratting he was building for himself turned out ot not be quite as fulfilling as he'd hoped. We're exploring Tom Waits in his Asylum years.
In this episode of On In Five, we take a look at Tom Waits - an artist known for his unique voice, his calm and cool attitude, and his razor sharp wit. We look at him through his early years and do our best to understand how he became his night loving, diner frequenting, seedy self (and we mean that as a compliment).
On the conclusion of our series on Liberace "Busterkeys", we look at the end of his life without his parents and with Scott Thorson. We look at the whole scandal that surrounds Liberace's most famous boy toy, how Liberace handled the whole affair, and finally the death of Liberace and the drama surrounding it.
On part three of Liberace, we take a look at his life after the scandal at the Daily Mirror. We look at how he managed to be the highest paid entertainer of all time, how he managed to to succeed at nearly everything he did, and how he kept his two lives completely separated, creating one of the most elaborate characters in entertainment history.
In part two of our series on Liberace, we take a look at his life when his career really began to to take off. We see how a move to a new city helped him explode in popularity, we see how the addition of some screen time made him a house hold name, and we discuss how he was forced in court to defend a lie he was telling the whole world.
In part one of our series on Liberace, we take a look at how he went from Władziu to Walter to Lee to Liberace, how he made the perfect moves to get him on any and every stage he wanted, and we break down the different story he told in public vs the story he told in private, as he sewed the seeds to maintain one of the biggest lies in music history.
In this episode of On In Five, we look at not at a band or artist as we usually do, but rather a producer that helped loads of musicians reach their full potential. We are talking about producer extraordinaire and amateur Kermit the Frog impression artist Mutt Lange. We look at his childhood in South Africa and how it may have allowed him to lay the ground work to produce whomever he wanted, we take a look at some of the big projects he worked on through the 80s and 90s, and we take very uneducated guesses at whether we have seen the last of Mutt Lange in the music industry.
In the conclusion of our series on the queen of country, Shania Twain, we look at her career from the time she fired her friend Mary Bailey from her management position to current day. We look at how the country music scene attempted to shun her, and how she bested them; how she created her iconic sound; and how she dealt with the turmoil of losing her voice and her husband of 20+ years all at the same time. Plus we all try to finish the episode while were all falling asleep at the wheel. It's a real blast!
