Welcome to episode 5 of the Not Your Mother’s Life; Not Your Mother’s Advice podcast! In this episode we will be talking about taking on a different way of thinking, being & doing, to get what we want. It’s called the “BE DO HAVE model & I first learned about it from Jim Fortin. I’m not sure who first started this model, maybe it originated from Zig Ziglar, who wrote: “You've got to be before you can do, and do before you can have.”. Again, I’m not really sure, but what I am REALLY sure about, is that it works! To explain this, let’s start with the way that most of us think. Most people work from a Have, Do, Be mentality. And that goes something like this: if I only had (or once I have) that job, the money, the time, etc. then I could take action in order to become what we desire to be: successful, fulfilled, happy & so on. Well, that is BACKWARDS! In this way of thinking though, we are working from a place of lack. When we work from a place of lack, we are focusing on lack & therefore, that is what we get more of! We feel we aren’t good enough, smart enough, strong enough, wealthy enough; we feel as though we don’t have what we need, therefore, we are focused on being “less than”. The Be Do Have Mentality: First you "be" the thing called "happy" (or "knowing," or "wise," or "compassionate," or whatever), then you start "doing" things from this place of beingness -- and soon you discover that what you are doing winds up bringing you the things you've always wanted to "have." Excerpt from a writing by Neale Donald Walsch Listen to hear how to begin to incorporate this mentality into YOUR life today so you can finally get what it is you want out of life much more easily than you ever thought possible! In this episode we will be talking about change & quitting & the differences & similarities & how they are connected! Very often people look at the word “quit” as having a negative connotation. “He’s a quitter.” She quits everything she starts.” But how about “He quit smoking last year!” or “She quit drinking soda & lost 25lbs!” And, very often people look at the word “change” as scary and uncomfortable! People often resist change because it means they have to do something different, maybe learn something new, get out of their comfort zone & grow! And that is uncomfortable for many people! So very often people just stay with what they know; stay in that dead end job; stay in that relationship that is going nowhere; stay the course of their so called “well-planned & laid out life” even if it no longer has meaning, purpose or passion for them. But, in reality when we quit doing one thing, we replace it with doing something else, so in essence we are just changing what we are doing. And if we are going to change something that we do then we are likely going to have to quit doing something else because there are still only 24 hours in a day. Learning to quit stuff, people, situations, etc. that no longer serve us, that distract from our lives, our peace & our sanity, that is a GOOD thing! And then replacing the things we quit with things that are aligned with our purpose & passion for our lives! Welcome to episode 3 of the "Not Your Mother’s Life, Not Your Mother’s Advice", Podcast. In this episode we will be talking about “figuring out what you want & don’t want”. And yes, sometimes it is easier to start with what you DON’T want. Here are two reasons why I believe it is often a good idea for many people to start out with what we DON’T want: Reason #1: There are so, so many choices in this world, that it is often difficult to see “the forest through the trees”, meaning that there are so many options to evaluate that we never get to do what we really want to do because we get too bogged down with all of the choices. It can be very overwhelming! The second reason that it is sometimes a good idea to determine what it is we don’t want, if we aren’t aware of what we don’t want, we may find ourselves compromising or worse yet, doing what other people think we should be doing. Now I’m not saying that being flexible & knowing how to compromise doesn’t have a place in our lives; just not here. So how do we actually do this in “real life”? Determine what we want and what we do want? Well it takes: 1.) Being open-minded 2.) Willingness to try new things 3.) Being aware of our past experiences and realizing what resonated with us and what didn’t. What lit us on fire & what didn’t. 4.) Willingness to change; to say, nope, this IS NOT FOR ME and to move on to something new. It may be interesting and a good idea to take the Meyers Briggs personality test to see what types of things suit you best. There is a link below to a similar test, based on Carl Jung and Isabella Meyers Briggs personality theory. Once you decide what you really want to do, don’t let lack of experience or education sway you to pursue something else! Find out what it takes to do that and start on the road to pursue your passion! I would like to invite you to download my FREE guide, the link is below, on the 9 Steps to Create Change. This will give you an idea of the process to make successful changes in your life. Welcome to episode 2 of the Not Your Mother’s Life, Not Your Mother’s Advice Podcast. In this episode we will be talking about taking 100% Total Responsibility & Being 100% Accountable For Everything That Happens In Your Life. I know that this may be a bit uncomfortable & a touchy topic for many (or even most), people; I know it was for me, but in order to move forward with endless possibilities, we HAVE to learn to take complete responsibility for our lives. 100% responsibility, 100% of the time! Not just responsibility when it suits you or when things are going your way, but taking 100% responsibility even when things don’t go your way or when you REALLY, REALLY believe that someone else is at fault for something that happened in your life!
