Karen Kendra Holmes works for the Federal Government as a Safety Officer. She is a strong advocate for the Transgender Community speaking around the country from military, police, fire, medical field, university, etc. Karen is volunteering with the Department of Justice / Community Relations Department as a Subject Matter Expert going around the country speaking to Law Enforcement Agencies. She will be trying to build the Bridge between the Transgender Community and Law Enforcement Agencies. Karen in November 2021 was on the cover of “The Platform Magazine '' an international magazine for her service work to the country. She is a International Board Member Transgender Veteran Support Group (TVSG) LGBTQ Resources. Also, with TVSG she is the President for the Washington, DC Chapter, and the Vice President with the Maryland Chapter. In July of 2021 Karen has received the honor of the 14th Annual Prideindex National Esteem Award for Outstanding Service, Transgender for her advocate, award winning Public Servant. Karen on October 2020 received the AARP Maryland Andrus Award for Community Service, in recognition of exceptional service to my community. She also received the Engendered Spirit Award from Capital Pride in June of 2018. She also was a TEDx Speaker with TEDx Asbury Park, NJ on May 19, 2018. In April 2017 she received the “2017 Monica Roberts Advocacy Award”. She was selected in January 2017 by LGBTQ Nation as one of the “Top 50 Successful Transgender Americans You Need to Know”. In May of 2015, she was honored in a special edition among 31 other women from around the world in The Platform Magazine, for up and inspiring females who have made a difference with their platform and inspired others with their positive values towards others. In October 2013 she received “Soldier of the Year”, out of the country, by the State Guard Association of the United States out of 24 states and 23 thousand soldiers. In December 2012 she received “Non-Commissioned Officer Soldier of the Year” by the Maryland State Guard Association and The Maryland Defense Force. Karen has her own side business called SafetyFirst DMV and is certified as an instructor through the National Safety Council. He holds an M.A. in Producing for Film and Video from American University, and a B.S. in Mass Communications from Virginia Commonwealth University. Claudia’s passion of eradication of hunger, elimination of poverty and creating social impact speaks through her engagements. Before joining the FAO, she worked at the World Bank Group as a Knowledge Management professional with an emphasis on South-South Capacity Building programs in the Latin-American and Africa regions. Her driving force is enunciating change and creating an impact through supporting developing nations. She is a Senior Advisor of the steering committee of the Youth2Youth Community (Y2Y) of the World Bank Group and the co-chair of the Youth Innovation Fund. The Y2Y community enables her innovative talent, efficiency and passion for creating an impact on youth to increase employability, community engagement, and life skills in developing nations. Additionally, as an Adult Third Culture Kid and cross-cultural mediator and trainer, she serves as the membership chair of an NGO called Families in Global Transition (FIGT) to promote and engage in the storytelling of the global nomad. Since the first Women’s March, Katherine has become an activist in the grassroots movement in Virginia. She is fighting for change by electing democrats to office, especially women and minorities. She co-founded an organization called Network NoVA that serves to connect and network with like-minded individuals to reclaim and protect our democratic values of equality, justice, and human rights. She is Network NoVA’s “brain” behind the programming for the Women’s Summit - an event designed for political engagement on the issues and to take back electoral power. Katherine is dedicated and passionate about empowering women and girls through education, collaboration, and partnership. A believer in volunteering to make a difference. Katherine uses her talent, skills and expertise to effect change. He’s earned numerous honors including the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table including Top of the Table. Early in his career, he quickly distinguished himself as a leader with a thriving team as Field Director, and Managing Director in Florida and before his tenth year, he accepted a role with the Home Office as the Assistant Regional Director, a position that prepares talented candidates for Managing Partner Assignments. In 2003, Tucker was appointed the Managing Partner in Washington DC and in his time with the firm, it has tripled in both size and production. Leo currently serves on the board of The Tiger Woods Foundation, The American College, and the Washington Area Women’s Foundation. Leo’s fundraising efforts on behalf of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society led him to receive the 2013 Man of the Year honor for the LLS National Capital Chapter and in 2012, Leo was listed as one of Washington DC’s Top 25 Minority Business Owners. Beth was thrilled to join the Flaherty Family Foundation (FFF) as the first executive director in September of 2015. The Flaherty Family Foundation provides high school college prep scholarships to high potential students with economic need. Flaherty has expanded and formalized the Scholarship Opportunity from 11 Flaherty Scholars at three high schools in the Twin Cities to 400 Flaherty Scholars at 32 high schools in Minnesota, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Maryland, New Jersey and Montana. After student-teaching at Highland Park Senior High School (St. Paul) in the fall of 1999, Flaherty moved to Breckenridge, Colorado and taught ski school to preschoolers. Her first year in the classroom was split between Minnesota Business Academy, a charter high school in St. Paul, and co-teaching third grade at Ascension Catholic School in Minneapolis. She spent the next eight years teaching middle and high school social studies and coaching gymnastics in Summit County, Colorado. While in Summit Country she was a mentor with Mountain Mentors, received the Asset Builder of the Month award from Summit Prevention Alliance and earned recognition as the Jefferson County Coach of the year in 2008. She spent six years teaching in Arlington, Virginia at Washington-Lee High School and at an alternative school, New Directions, which serves students involved in the juvenile justice system. In addition, Flaherty has been a foster parent in Arlington County since 2010 and recently began mentoring with Capital Partners for Education in Washington, D.C. Flaherty earned her BA in Social Studies from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. While at Hamline, Flaherty was a two-time captain of the gymnastics team, a four-time All-American, and National Champion on Floor Exercise. Hetal Jani is a first generation South Asian American and New York City native, which has colored her experience as an educator and her interest in how culture, society, and interpersonal relationships affect an individual’s development. Ms. Jani has over 15 years of experience as an educator and has helped hundreds of students navigate their academic careers, even leading them into their first jobs. To best provide for her students, she pursued 3 Masters degrees in a span of 4 years while working full time with students and families. To serve her most vulnerable and marginalized students, she obtained a Master in Psychology from Queens College of New York and a Master in Education from Harvard University, where she was awarded the distinguished Intellectual Contribution Award, given to the top graduating students in recognition of their accomplishments and role they played in leadership. An MBA from IE Business School in Spain and two years in leadership positions in various academic environments of China have given her the insight and passion for developing culturally aware, empathetic, and capable global citizens, who can succeed in life. More recently, she started SPEAK Mentorship, a nonprofit that ensures individuals achieve personal and professional goals, leading young women of diverse backgrounds into leadership positions across the workforce and giving them the tools to lift up their communities.
