Having just dropped Sam off at school for his first day back in 18 months (!), we decide to distract ourselves in the customary manner, by recording a podcast episode. In the first of an occasional series on the joys of travel in Bolivia, learn more about historic -- and, indeed, prehistoric -- Sucre!
We take some time out of dog-sitting to update you on things here in Bolivia, including exciting news about Sam's schooling and a new UK-bound Bolivian missionary. We also have an extended conversation about mental wellbeing and mental illness on the mission field.
Canadian & US supporters: Join us on Monday 2nd of August at 8pm EST for our next live Zoom catchup!
We are back in Bolivia! Sam makes his long-awaited podcast return and we discuss the differences between shame-driven and guilt-driven cultures (and crucially, the difference between GMT and BST). Speaking of time-zones, make sure to join us live for some prayer and catch-up on the 7th of June, at 7:30pm/2:30pm (UK/EST).
Please excuse some sound issues on this episode.
After a whirlwind few weeks, we find ourselves locked down in London, Ontario. But you can’t keep a good pod down, and so we continue our series on cultural differences by offering some reflections on Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (or individualist vs collectivist cultures, as Amanda insists on calling it).
In our first episode of 2021, we begin a new series on differences between 'cold climate cultures' (e.g., North America, Europe) and 'hot climate cultures' (everywhere else!). We kick off by looking at contrasting attitudes to time, before closing with our prayer requests for the next few weeks. For more on this fascinating subject, check out Sarah Lanier's book 'Foreign to Familiar'.

In our final episode of the year, we reflect on the joys and sorrows of 2020 and look forward to the year ahead. Stay tuned till the end for a Christmas message from our sponsor(ed child).

Mark Hunt, AKA 'The Craig Cunningham of La Paz', joins us for a chat about international church ministry in Bolivia. In addition, we cover the big issues of our times, such as torture chairs and a leaders' thingy, while also launching the long-awaited 'who-gets-to-help-Sam-put-the-star-on-the-2021-Christmas-tree' competition. Audio gold this way lies.
Amanda waxes lyrical about her new laundry machine while Craig identifies the unnamed fruit of Genesis 3. You can't say the three-month wait hasn't been worth it!

As lockdown enters week 1,374, we huddle around the bunker microphone to discuss dinners of the Krafty variety, the latest on Sam's marital prospects, and why a visit to the supermarket is just like appearing on Top of the Pops in the '80s. All this, plus the latest on things for us here in Santa Cruz and an interview with our good friend Heidi Gladman of 'El Jordán' ministry (see link for more).
