Lily goes into labor while Barney tries to guide Marshall on a drunken journey home from Atlantic City. Ted and Robin retell old stories from the writers cutting room floor to distract Lily from her pain. Marvin is born.
Ted tries online dating but keeps running into imaginary Robin. Barney takes Marshall to Atlantic City to get him out of Lily's hair for a weekend.
Barney wants to make every night legendary. Robin wants notoriety. Marshall wants to know who Lily is having sex dreams about.
The men of the show plot out their lives and future expectations in three year cycles to align with rewatching Episodes 4-7 of Star Wards.
In a clever ruse, Barney and Quinn set up the gang to believe they've ruined their relationship. Robin and Ted squable over Quinns apartment and Marshall retells ill advised sex stories about him and Lily.
Barney has the tables turned on him when he decides to court Quinn/Karma and gets gaslighted and his pockets emptied. Robin becomes more captor than guest while staying with Marshall and Lily in Long Island.
Ted puts his heart on the line again for Robin but will ultimately have to move on. Barney discovers Lily and Marshall's hobby of long-term bets for and against the group.
Barney and Ted uncover a new venue for picking up women even though Barney may have found love already (aka we meet Quinn). The couples go on a trip to Vermont where Kevin proposes to Robin, requiring her to reveal her inability and disinterest in having children.
The entire episode takes place on Long Island at the new Erikson home where Barney plays with fire, Coots catches on fire and Robin tries to turn the fire down on her temper.
Without Marshall and Lily in the city anymore, the Manhattan gang find temporary, scary replacements. Lily and Marshall struggle with the intricacies of their new house with bizarre assistnance from Mickey who has worn out his welcome.

Robin's journey through learning she can't have children, told to her fictional future children. Marshall's journey through getting pranked by kids in his new neighborhood.
Lily and Marshall decide they want to keep the Long Island home and move in, Robin decides to #Resist. Barney and Ted contemplate starting a family together.
Barney and Robin deal with the aftermath of their night of deceipt on a boat with the deceived. Ted and Marshall deal with life ticking away as they navigate a weed induced evening at a concert.
A sign outside of McClarrens has the group retelling the story of a hurricane that hit NYC and how the group reacted. Barney tries to shed his Ducky Tie.
Well obviously, the slutty pumpkin returns, in the form of Katie Holmes with all her charm. Lily has pregnancy brain and wants to take her grandparents house in the suburbs as a gift. Barney is horrified to find out he's 1/4 Canadian, in which Robin revels.
All cast members start seeing their parents in their significant other.....quite literally. Ted needs a companion for a Wierd Al concert. Barney tries overcoming many obstacles to have his first shag with Nora.
Ted wants to go on a date without any internet background research. Marshall and Lily want to go into a delivery without any gender knowledge. Both get disrupted by Barney.
Marshall pushed his boss (Martin Short) to fight harder for their cause. Robin and Kevin (Kal Penn) move from therapy to dating. Ted has a disastrous field trip experience with his class. Barney mistakes Nora for being too old for his tastes. All bad story lines, but none as bad as Lily's insistance that everyone has to speak with an air of positivity around her because she's pregnant.
Robin tells a therapist how the blossoming Barney/Nora relationship drove her to assault a stranger as Ted inserts himself into Marshall and Lily's pregnancy.
